Hello nice vidéo ! I have been using Kiri Engine Pro for a month now, and i really love it. It really competes with the expensives scanners. I love the pause button when I take pictures, but I am limited by the maximum 200 photos to upload for bigger object. I still have better result with the photo method than 3DGS, but i will succeed in switching :) I'm also wondering if the iPhone model/camera makes a big difference other than the Texture quality ?
Hey Jerome!! Thank you so so much for the comment, really appreciated your support :) Glad you said that, because we are planning to increase the photo limit in the photo scanning in the soon future. Although we haven't finally settled the new photo limit, but it will be somewhere above 500 photos for a Pro user, this limit lift will be introduced not the next major update, but the one after (because we need to do a UI update in the next one).
And to the second part of your question, no, phone model and camera deosn't make a huge difference in texture quality, but we do find that iPhone cameras are essentially better than most Androids, so using an iPhone could help improve the color accuracy of the texture
Once the demo is done on a 3D model, can the app give me measurements in inches Or Centimeters?
Good question xbizuk! If you use the photo scan or featureless object scan features, then no, it doesn't come with real-world measurement, you'll have to manually scale it on 3D software for accurate in-scale measurements; But if you use the LiDAR and object captures features with an iPhone Pro, then the 3D model will actually include the real-world measurement
This is hands down THE BEST photogrammetry app. Much better results than other apps. But, the pricing and the photo limit just to 70 for free user was what made me switch to Reality scan. If these things are tackled in a better way, it'll be so helpful to many people who are addicted to photogrammetry just like me.
Hey Pavanrzx! Thank you so much for the honest feedback, and actually we are planning to lift the photo limit for free users :) Although it's not settled yet, we are going to increase the photo limit to 100 or more and unlock upload from local for all users. Right now, we are in the middle of an app UI upgrade, right after the current update is delivered, we will start making those changes. Fingers crossed!!!
@@KIRI_Engine_App I love your responses here on YT. It genuinely seems like you care about being upfront with the users of your app.
@@LincolnWorld Thank you so much, man! Really really appreciated the support. Yes, I try to create deeper connections with users :) I think this way I get to learn a little bit more about the market and the market can also learn a little bit more about us
I need to scan products that are black and I can't paint them another color. How can I scan them since the system doesn't capture black objects very well?
Hey! Thanks for the question :) Did you try our featureless object scan option? It should be good to capture object that's black
@@KIRI_Engine_App
I haven't tested it yet because this feature is only available in the paid version.
I have a few more questions:
1.When removing the background from intricate parts, such as a fan's grille, a mug handle, or wires from a black object, what's the best approach?
2.Does it make a difference if I use a white, green, or another colored background?
3.If there are markings on the background, like dots, does it assist the app in the background removal process?
4.When scanning larger objects, like the size of a car, would it be better to have fixed lighting that illuminates everything or directional lighting in the area being photographed, such as a ring light with soft light connected to the camera?
@@romulotrindadealves6611 Hey, great questions, man. Let's answer them :)
1. To remove some parts from a 3D model, you'd first need to export the 3D scanned model as quad mesh for better editability (This is one of our advanced export features, so, unfortunately it's also a paid feature). And when you have the quad mesh of the 3D model, you can then do the part removal process on third-party 3D software such as Blender. But to be able to properly remove the parts from a 3D object, you'd need some 3D modeling skills to help
2. Using backdrops when making a 3D scan doesn't really help that much in today's 3D scanning. Using a white backdrop will, tho, help you get the 3D model with neater texture quality, but that's pretty much it
3. No, it won't improve the background removal. We use an AI algorithm that automatically tells the object from a background, and it's pretty smart as far as you include the whole object in the photoset, not just a part of it.
@@romulotrindadealves6611 and 4. When scanning a car, specifically speaking. Yes, an even and smooth lighting environment will absolutely help with the result. But more importantly, to get a good 3D model of a car scan, the car itself needs to have a lot of features points (I know we have featureless object scan, but frankly speaking, it doesn't do well with car scan). So, in my experience a dirty car will work better than a brand-new shiny car
Why're all the demos done on the iPhone?
Good eye, haha. Frankly speaking, although we are very very proud of our Android support, I have to admit KIRI's user experience is slightly better on iPhones :( And that's actually an important factor that made us re-design the UI to align the user experience between iPhone and Android, the new UI experience will be out in the next major update
@@KIRI_Engine_App Thanks for responding. I'm actually new to Kiri and intend to upgrade to premium but currently stuck with the Galaxy S23 (not having the budget to switch to iPhone 14 Pro, which everyone seems to recommend). So, is the quality of the scans/models better when done on iPhone or same (so up to the system/Kiri)?
@@k16e@k16e Ah, actually, the final scans won't have much difference doesn't matter if you use an iPhone or Android phone. It's just the over all experience is a bit better on iPhone, you know, like the font size, app animations etc.

Any plans to bring the 3D gaussian splat viewer to the Meta Quest 3 or PCVR?
Heyyy! We were actually just discussing the feasibility to bring 3DGS to Quest 3! The two things that are stopping us from doing that right now are 1. To bring 3DGS to Quest natively, we need to be able to render 3DGS in Unity more efficiently, and unfortunately our team isn't really familiar with Unity development, so to do that we'll need to get a couple more people onboard. 2. Not only Quest 3, even though Apple Vision Pro is cool, unfortunately, it doesn't really provide much financial return for the team. And in order to make our team grow faster and deliver better products as a startup, we first need to focus on the projects that can potentially provide enough financial returns.
So back to the question, yes Quest 3 is on our radar and we want to bring 3DGS to Quest 3, but it's not our priority at this moment, so it might take a while for us to start making apps for Quest 3
@@KIRI_Engine_App This is another example of what I was talking about. What you said makes perfect sense, but I feel like a lot of other companies would have not responded, or been not as honest with their answer.
@@LincolnWorld Thank you so so much!! Yeah, transparency is what we think one of the most valuable thing for today's startup. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions in the future haha
Can I import other scanner's data into Kiri engine and turn it onto mesh?
Thanks for the question! Unfortunately at this moment, it's not possible, haha we need to attract more native users to KIRI Engine :P But we do have plans to open this conversion feature online so other people can upload their 3DGS data to turn them into mesh
What file formats does it create? Anything that can be used in Fusion 360?
Hi there! Yes, the 3D model is directly compatible with Fusion 360, you can export 8 different file formats including USDZ, GLTF, FBX, OBJ, STL, etc..
@@KIRI_Engine_App Thanks! I will give the app a shot

Can this application scan in 3D and export files without needing the internet? I need security for my product, is that possible?
Unfortunately no :( For local processing, you'd need a computer software like Metashape which would be 3000 dollars for the license
omg
Why can't programmers let the user process and render on his or her phone instead of sending to a cloud? IPhone 14 or Samsung S24 have good enough CPUs and GPUs in their phone to process it. It is expensive and data heavy to send over 5G.
Hi Kangsan! Good questions. Actually, we can run Object Capture feature locally on the iPhone Pro and iPad Pro series, but for Samsung, we believe it has great CPUs however Android phone doesn't provide enough frameworks for us developer to develop graphic intensive computing which needs to draw the true power from a phone at low level. So unfortunately, the most universal solution we can think of is to provide a light-weight photogrammetry alternative on the iPhone Pro and use the cloud computing to ensure more users regardless of their phone can enjoy 3D scanning.
