Fenomenali tutti tre!! La Divina, Corelli Bastianini
LE TRIO D'OR DE LA LYRIQUE MONDIALE: La Divina, Corelli et Bastianini.

Unbelievable, unforgetible and unrepeatible today. There's no quality of singers, conductors, choro and orchestra. This was golden era of opera with reason.
Greatest Soprano. Tenor. Baritone. Bass. All in this great opera. Amazing. Thanks very much for upload.
You did forget the only ‘Greatest’ in this opera: the Tenor, God Corelli.
Best performance of this opera ever
UNA MARAVILLA
Thank you for this outstanding piece of history. Wonderful! I appreciate it so much.
BELLEZA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Si. Tú lo has dicho con letras mayúsculas. Saludos cordiales.
an extraordinary recording...Bravissimo!
Aquí simplemente se disfruta…muchas gracias.
If I am correct, this was also her return to La Scala after an absence of 2 years. Now, I have listened to my favourite parts of this opera, but never listened to it completely from beginning to end. Now that I have, yes, the obvious, Callas, Corelli, Bastianini are all stupendous. But have you paid attention to the orchestra, the chorus? The ensemble is phenomenal. Maestro Votto is equal to the stars on stage. I think La Scala in honour or Callas's return wanted a production, with Maestro Votto on the podium, that would long be remembered as one of the greatest opening nights.
Sublime PERFECTA
Always loved the aria at 1:02:12 and the applause at 1:03:57 always makes me smile. Was a big return for Callas, but Corelli is amazing here. Other cast members not too bad either! Thanks for the post
That aria is one of the greatest, in This exact version sung by the God Corelli, Arias of the whole opera History.
Corelli is God. His ‘la renderò’ is something divine.
Splendida esecuzione, inarrivabile. Posseggo proprio questa edizione in CD.
ELLA ES ATEMPRAL !!!!!!!!!!

Hi,dear John-Thank you very much for the amazingly recording by Poliuto with La Divina -kind regard´s from germany -michael
We can always find better recording but can we find greater singing today for these Operas??
No! Not even close!
Listening to this for the hundredth time and hearing things I never noticed before. Anyone who thinks Corelli's singing was unexpressive, inflexible, or lacking in subtlety (and there are such people 🙄) knows nothing.
Saludos cordiales.
thanks!!!:))
greatest opera ever written!!!!!
1:02:11 Sfolgorò divino raggio
Inarrivabile, non ci sono parole, incredibile
19:55 LA DIVINA ENTRANCE - 20:33 THE ORCHESTRA STOPS..... MARIA KALOGEROPOULOU THANK U!
Espléndida!!!!
Votto was an great conductor!
Why any sopranos even tried to sing this role after Callas!
I am not familiar with this opera, but know everything Donizetti wrote was magnificent. Maria Callas' voice in this production is phenomenal!
Not really as it wasn't the best time for her vocally however, her expressiveness is so beyond amazing that it's still the best performance of this role
1st Act 00:00
2nd Act 48:40
3rd Act 1:24:29
Gracias.
über alles
I really need to find the vinyl of this.
It's really great, isn't it?
@Trudi Schleifer It is. This is, I’m sure, how Donizetti would have wanted this opera to sound.

Sorrry, but the source tape/LPs from which this is taken is sharp enough to distort all the singers voices. Has no oee else out there noticed?
+Yousef Ali But that is not what's going on here, I'm afraid. Somehow, while the actual sound is much finer here than in any other transfer of this "live" performance that I've yet heard, the final version of the actual transfer of this superb source was evidently made slightly sharp.
The source of this material is such fine sound that it's very obvious that it was taken directly from the actual "live" b'cast as it was actually occurring. Plainly, that original b'cast could only have been at the right pitch! It doesn't make sense otherwise. It was made in "real time". This is a "live' transmission directly from La Scala at the very moment this performance was taking place. It is _not_ a post-edited audio product from La Scala, nor is it an original studio product of EMI (although EMI subsequently released this in lousy sound, not the excellent sound heard here).
So the entire matter of slovenly products from the Scala "shop" is simply not pertinent here. La Scala never officially released this at all. Someone else recorded this, making a fabulous source tape of this performance right while it happened on Opening Night. It is indeed highly regrettable that in the copying, this excellent source is now rendered somewhat sharp.
Someone with oodles of time will now have to obtain a good-conditioned copy of this particular long out-of-print BJR LP (which is now priceless beyond words, since the EMI CD tragically overlooked this LP entirely in releasing its execrable sounding version), will have to make a transfer of that LP making sure not to compromise one iota of its fine sonics (a VERY TALL order), will have to pay extra special attention to the accurate pitch in the process -- and will THEN(!) have to make yet another copy of THAT transfer that is duly uploadable here on the web. OUCH! There are so many imponderables here that it's excruciatingly painful just thinking about it.
It's a tragedy that such a conscientious upload as this one -- which supersedes
e-n-t-i-r-e-l-y
the execrable CD released by EMI -- ran afoul of sloppy pitch adjustment. This is not just an historic occasion for Callas's return to La Scala; it is also historic for the assumption by Corelli of a role generally judged as insuperably difficult, and for the impact that this particular revival had on the performance history of this, one of Donizetti's finest works, spearheading a renewed interest in an opera sometimes judged to be [paraphrase] "one of Donizetti's most deeply personal compositions".
slowest conductor in history of recording
You haven’t heard Klemperer or Furtwängler
Poor Maria, she was only 37 and the voice had became so little......
Maybe, maybe, but we still do not have better Paolina then HER so far !!! Try to find any Poliuto recording with such drama and passion. And Maria has a lion´s share on that ! and treads on the heel of all the cast. She is so poor that most of the recent sopranos would murder to reach such interpretation level ! Most of them do not sing such way event at their career climax.
I like your comment but really, I believe that most sopranos do not care much about interpretation level - unfortunately, I mean.
she lost 42kg
You are right.
@Fairpavel Her voice is 10x any other soprano has sung the role, apart from Gencer of course.
