You can tell Seth really enjoys a deck when in the wrap-up he shows you he's played 35 matches with it.
Lol, yeah, I played this one a lot for fun.
You buried the lead Seth! This is actually Lantern Control in Explorer! :D
If only we could see the top of the opponent's deck!
Watching the Lantern half of Tergrid just bully someone out of the game was pretty impressive. Save an infinite mana combo, it's always seemed pretty lackluster. Nice to see it do such heavy lifting.
I really like the stats segments you've been adding. It gives good context for how the deck plays.
Yeah, it's a good way to show the interesting matches in the video but still give people a complete picture of how the deck played. I think I'll start doing it more often.
This reminds me of one of the first casual decks I ever built that wasn't just "a pile of loosely connected cards that I own". It was a mono-black deck that forced my opponent to draw cards so that Liliana's Caress and Waste Not would always be "on".
This was LONG before I had any idea of how to build a deck, so I was running stuff like Gnat Miser (because then they'd discard more cards to hand-size!) and Sangromancer (because lifegain is super good, right?). It had, quite literally, no targeted discard or ways to deal with anything that my opponent played. Good times.
Hey Editor - the audio seems a bit off on this one. Giving you a heads up!
bro thanks for this, I thought my ears were dying again
Yeah but they were trying
Yeah I wondered if Seth fell down a well. Thanks for confirming I'm not insane.
unfortunately it seems like it might be his cam mic or something, may be that’s the only audio they have 😬 Vids still enjoyable 🤷♂️
It sounds like there was background noise, and the editor filtered out most of it, but made seth sound a little funky too
I so wanted you to run into the tamiyo which prevents sac&discard like your opponent did in that one against the odds episode.
that sounds hilarious
It's the tamiyo tribal one
You just destroy Tamiyo. Discard decks should only be built with plenty of removal or, as is my preference, bounce spells. Tamiyo can't hurt you if she doesn't exist.
This deck basically only had edict based removal though 😛 cant sac
I knew about the phases and stuff, but I'm not sure I would have put forth the effort to Eiganjo at the correct time. So glad I witnessed that blowout instead of happening to me, I will be sure not to be lazy in the future lol
Waste Not was a real treat to the community. Wish more fan cards made it in
I'm liking the new lantern control
Hey Seth. Just made Mythic for the first time using a variation on this deck. Thanks for all the amazing content and fun ideas!
Go Blank and Leyline of the Void seem really bad here since it stops you stealing things... Cling to Dust is fine and so might be Unlicensed Hearse though. That way you can run grave hate versus the important things a grave deck will care about returning, while not hosing your own Tergrid.
I have been running with a deck like this for a while; thanks for the tip on the new piece!
Instant classic. One of my favorite Goldfish decks to date 🏮🏮🏮 gotta love lantern control 😂
Glad you liked it!
Leyline seems bad to bring in
The addition of Sanitarium made me so happy. I've been trying to force Waste Not/Tinybones decks in HIstoric ever since they were added, but it's always the same. I run my opponent out of cards, then I draw dead discard while my opponent topdecks their way out of it and eventually beats me. Sanitarium solves so much of that problem. Still hoping we get Liliana's Caress, The Rack and/or Shrieking Affliction soon.
That's why I started splashing blue and bouncing their cards back into their hand so I can make them discard it. 😁 Solves the problem of removal AND empty hand at the same time.
@@HyperactiveSloth79 Reminds me of when I first started playing Magic and had a fun deck built around Warped Devotion with a playset of Recoils.
Gotta love seeing Tergrid do Tergrid things! Pure malice! The Lantern win was delicious!
I'm kinda new to arena and with all the codes I got and some extra packs I got for free I was able to build most of a version of this deck. I spent a couple dollars to finish it out and I have to say my w/l ratio has improved significantly. Love this deck
I like the lantern win better. No one see it coming
In match 1, game 1, it's possible they did that because they wanted the reduction to do something in main phase 2.
Sometimes the lantern feels stronger than Tergrid herself. Emphasis on sometimes.
yeah, lantern works on its own whereas tergrid needs support from other cards.
Most times I win with tergrid is using the lantern.
Loved the game 1 we had played and enjoyed watching the deck perform
Ive run a list thats very similar for almost a year now. Phyrexian obliterator and the tinybones the trinket thief are must haves for this archetype
Brilliant addition of the Sanitarium, I didn't think of it!
It makes the plan sooo much better.
Prof Seth teaching us proper spell casting through phasing 😍
I used to play B/R Waste Not with 4x Burning Inquiry. Was awesome.
That mono green second game when the op didn't run very well. They also chose to keep a 1 lander with a bunch of mana dorks against a black deck with known removal, so the deck definitely still flexed on em
so i tried out the deck after having been on a several months long loosing streak, fell from mythic to stuck in gold, and couldnt figure out wtf i was doing wrong. almost gave up on arena. well, 6-3 in the first 9 games so far, and im having fun playing magic again for the first time in a loooooong time. felt like i actually had an answer to all the damn shenanigans.
Awesome! I'm glad you are enjoying it.
Tergrid is big and flashy, but just being able to repeatedly Torment of Scarabs multiple times per turn tends to just get people with how deceptively strong it is.
I've been playing discard decks for a while. My solution to the opponent ending up with an empty hand has been to play Dimir so that instead of using removal spells I bounce cards into their hand to make them discard it. Rona's Vortex, Blink of an Eye, Discovery // Dispersal etc. are awesome! ...not to mention River's Rebuke for a sweeper.
Boy game 2 was pure torture. I get play to your outs but that guy was toast!
Now that's an echo!
That eiganjo play is why I always wait when I'm not just toilet gaming
Another great episode brother Set. 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Two of my favorite cards finally being used in a video, this is great! I just wish I could watch it with the sound on without getting violently and irrationally annoyed at the way he talks. :(
id love a deck just based around the lantern side and free/cheap untaps for the lantern
Just played my first game with this deck and it's very fun.
Instead of the Sanitarium you can also just run with Forced Fruition making them refill their hands on every spell cast. If you ran a Jin-Gitraxias to force their hand size down to 0 you'd gain ALL the cards every time they casted a spell. Add in a Grave Pact forcing them to sacrifice creatures whenever your creatures die or are otherwise placed into the graveyard from your own sacrificing effects. If you are running Zombie tribal, you can add in a Grave Betrayal which will do the same thing Tergrid does for creatures only, but it adds a +1/+1 counter onto it and makes it a zombie so that it benefits from all zombie buffing lords (if you have any) Round it all off with Virtue of Persistence or Debtor's Knell or Sheoldred, Whispering One which all let you grab creatures from the graveyard and put them directly into play during your upkeep. In Sheoldred's case it applies to only your GY but it forces them to sacrifice creatures also thus fueling your deck even more. At that point NOTHING would remain dead and the GY would be totally bereft of creatures in just a few turns lol
Waste Not, an old wishlist mainstay I never got my hands onto :')
I got to say that second game I definitely wouldn’t of bought it in the graveyard heat the rest of the deck just seems so good with what the opponents trying to do. I would’ve just lean really hard into the discord outlets, because unlike with every other graveyard, Jack Rakdos doesn’t win on the spot with the graveyards you’re just using it for value, which means you can afford to let them use the gravy in a little bit and just punish them for the rest of their gameplay and what you’re really doing is cutting yourself off of using their value engines for yourself like you did in the first game
I agree. Leyline was not the move. Whenever he got Tergrid her ability was useless.
This looks so fun
Just a heads up go blank and tergrid are a nonbo
Why is during the game around 38:00 you played tergrid as a lantern instead of her body? Wouldn't her God form be more damage and value per turn?
Man, things started popping off at 15:25 lolol
So is this what they mean by Lantern Control?
I NEED TO SEE YOU DO TIMELESS TERGRID
Winning a game entirely with lantern is incredible
this deck has tergridy
When did Seth start recording in a well?
Surprised no one has asked about the play area in game 2. What's up with that? Haven't played Arena in a while.
That was a special April fools battlefield.
Isn’t leyline and tergrid a non-bo?
I want you seth to see if you can make this deck in pioneer or modern
I feel like that leyline of the void was overkill vs cat oven
Ok this deck is sick
Oh hey, Seth has heard of Trampled By Turtles!
I really enjoy this deck. Is it valid to win in fnm?
Tergrid doesn't really shut down cat-oven since all they need is one extra food and they can just bring it back in response to Tergrid. Great against most of the deck, though.
How did Tergrid steal Oven?
Thanks Seth
I love Tergrid. This is exciting.
In 1v1 she seems very fair
I'm a simple man: I see Seth's thumbnail, I press like
I have to say, green devotion and greasefang players looks like they are usually mindlessly going through the motions. As soon as something that is not in their flowchart, they just break and stop working despite still having options
The Crimm-iest seth deck ever
Wait couldn't he still have responded with power word kill in response to the eiganjo even if he casted eiganjo after combat damage was dealt?
No because Adeline would have been dead, though if damage had happened then Sheoldred would have been dead as well instead of just Adeline
@@poiri thanks, I was a little confused on what he said
Get that Leyline out of there sir!! HRUMPH!
Is the audio echoing for anyone else?
it is a shame they never tried monomountain gruul. No one expects the WB sideboard
Until now I can't belive Mayhem Devil is an uncommon.
in the game @ 45:00 I'm not sure why your opponent bothered wasting a mode on bring sheoldred back, couldn't he have made you discard and shot you for 2?
Everything here is legal in Pioneer. Not sure how it would match up against the different meta game but it would be fun :)
Yeah, my inspiration for this deck was actually someone going 5-0 in a Pioneer league on MTGO so I think i can work in Pioneer too with minimal changes.
Ok this is incredibly stupid but it somehow bugs me every time: “Aspirant” is “ASS-per-runt” (as in “aspiration”) not “uh-SPY-runt” (like in “aspire”)
Congratulations! You fell for one of the oldest CZcamsr tricks in the book. Mispronounced words to get comments for the algorithm.
Hello, I'm from France and I love yours decks.... I just have one question, can you tell me the sentence you say right after you say hello everyone 😅 since English is not my language it's a bit difficult to understand everything you say. Thank you 😊
"Hello everyone it's Seth, probably better known as Saffron Olive"
@@MTGGoldfish Thank you 😊
I don't think boarding in leyline was good in the sacrifice matchup
5:13 I understand Seth's explanation but what has gone so badly? Opponent is hoping 4 damage from Eiganjo and 1 from token kills Sheoldred, but Seth Power Word Kills Adeline, blocks&kills token and keeps Sheoldred. What does End Of Combat phase have to do with it?
Oh forget it, I understand, opponent should have waited until Adeline damaged Sheoldred, until End Of Combat to use Eiganjo, because if Seth had a combat trick opponent would lose both Eiganjo and Adeline.
Yeah, that's what I was trying to say. The opponent was going to lose Adeline either way, but if they had waited to use Eigango until after the damage was dealt they would have made sure they killed Sheoldred because Power Word Kill wouldn't do anything. Since they used it before damage we got to kill the Adeline and keep Sheoldred.
That's my idea of a good time
love that theres 1 more sheoldred in the deck than tergrid
It's really good with all of our random card draw.
I love Seth aka saffron olive.
Get rid of the leyline. Your deck wants stuff out of their graveyard, let it commit to the thing. If that means on rare occasion something beats you from their graveyard so be it, but it's basically ALWAYS going to shut down the way you plan to win
get em
Shrieking affliction please come sooner.
Bruh this is doooooppppeeew
Eiganjo- eye gon joe
Congratulations! You fell for one of the oldest CZcamsr tricks in the book. Mispronounced words to get comments for the algorithm.
Ah so this is what they meant by Lantern Control
Crim is that you?
This deck needs two copies of Mirror Box
Not many.
If it doesn't work -it doesn't,
If it works - they scoop
I also hate mayhem devil top decks, it always happens
This is an extremely Crim deck
Mic is really echoey
Aye-gone-joe. Jesus Christ.
Shut up and take my rares arena😤
Sweeeeeet
Leyline was horrible.
Ugh, please bring back MTGO formats!
Meow
I will be honest those arena contructed formats are very boring.
Still hate that Tergrid even exists. The goal of that deck was always to get both players top decking as quickly as possible. Make it a pure luck game, such fun.
Its fake voice guy!
That's Mr Fake Voice Guy to you.
Way too much arena content.
The future is now
MtG:O is a janky excel sheet so…
Say it with me Seth (pbkaSO) eye-gone-joe
