The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a military-political alliance comprised of six post-Soviet states: Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan.
The CSTO, like NATO, was established to protect its members from military aggression. An attack on one country is considered the same as an attack on all states. Members of the CSTO are also prohibited from joining other military alliances.

Quick question, is there an explanation as in to why the CST rejected Armenia's plea for intervention? Or couldn't Russia have at least exerted greater pressure on Azerbaijan to resolve the conflict more in Armenia's favor?
Seems unfair, considering they responded so quickly to Kazakhstan with troops on January 5th. But the Prime Minister of Armenia to CSTO Pashinyan agreed to it as well. I suspect they were told no but given money. I don't know.

Azerbaijan is still a strategic friend of Russia and has excellent relations with CST nations.
CST nations also have close relations with Turkey and an iron cloud Azeri-Turk alliance: Turkey would have economically retaliated against Kyrgyzstan, Kazakstan, etc.
No nation ever recognized NK as Armenian, so technically, in CST's eyes: Armenia proper wasn't under threat.

Turkey would retaliate. Trust me when I say, that if NATO did not exist (and their subsequent associate states.), the Russians would seize much land for their sphere of influence.

in my opinion CSTO has to open wide their doors for new members. it is practicable to enlarge CSTO by taking ini iran, afghanistan, pakistan, bangladesh, madives, sri langka, mongolia, north korea and cina. by doing so CSTO is able to balance the overweight miitary alliabce such as NATO

@@JMK948 The Armenian leaders are against the CSTO, they remained in the CSTO on the same principle as Ukraine is now in the CIS.. Formally, none of them left these organizations, but in fact they are no longer with us and have an anti-Russian position. And besides, Russia introduced its peacekeepers and did not recognize Karabakh as the territory of Armenia, which means that even if Armenia were in the CSTO(not only in papers), there is no one to protect, only to ensure that there are no aggressions against the peoples living there and ensure security in the region.
