Handwriting in English has a very different level of importance than the written word in China and Japan. Learning to read and write Japanese and Chinese takes years and years of dedication and the practice of calligraphy is engrained in the culture in a way that has not been present in the western world for years and years.

The U.S doesnt even have handwriting classes in the schools anymore , we couldn't do this.
