I’m only a tinkerer so anything I say must be viewed with caution, I think the 1250 had a higher spring weight due to the expectation of always carrying a pillion and the extra torque compressing the shock. Handling is subjective, what makes you feel comfortable and confident is the right thing. Sometimes the numbers work against you. For road riding softer springs allow the forks or shock to extend into potholes for compliance, so long as the front and rear are balanced it’s how it makes you feel that counts. Keep us posted. I’ve got a 1250 shock in a 650K9 but that’s cos I’m mental and have a sidecar bolted on the side. Less squat for left hand bends but need softer rebound!!

Hi, so far Ive done just that and set it so it rides nice and ignored any kind of numbers But did set static sag as a guide. its riding nicer and can still be tweaked. I feel It can go 1 little bit softer and just adjust damping to suit the slight change. its certainly better than stock, and should get better. thanks for the input.

Just watched the video and I can’t think I’ve seen a worse shock review/install video. Installing a shock that is not designed for your bike was your biggest mistake, increasing the length does all sorts to the geometry which means the shock won’t work the way it is designed to. The amount of preload you have on the spring is far too much, it looked like the adjustment collar was nearly at the bottom of its travel. Do yourself a favour and swap it for the correct shock with a spring designed for your weight, if it’s still shit then let me know 👍🏻👍🏻

Thanks for not holding back. The shock isn't shit and since then the bike has ridden great. The shock is slightly longer by around 5 mm but it doesn't affect the bike at all. The preload was too high and although sag figures cant be reached it performs fine. I did look at the spring for my weight but also saw a guy in Canada do just that and although it would set ok, it was rock hard to ride, so he put the spring back on that comes with it, like on mine. The problem with sag figures is it's no doubt essential for track riding etc, but less essential when riding miles. Whats the point in stiff suspension that feels crap just to hit numbers suggested online. If it didn't handle then yes id have got the other spring. Remember some bikes come with non adjustable suspension and are comfy and handle the roads fine no matter the rider. Sag figures are totally out the window. Yes the video may be crap compared to many others but I am still learning this side of things, and will try improve for folks who want it more perfect. cheers

Im not sure why I seem arrogant quoting the Suzuki shock as bad, they are known in the bandit community as cheap and the cost to regas and spring is more than a YSS shock. Maybe I'm wrong, but we will see.
