So Neil is a gaslighter and a liar. Death is one of my all-time favorite characters and as. Mexican Woman I didn’t need Death to look or sound like me to want to read or be a fan of that character. It’s a truly sad day when a once cool guy like Neil turns to repugnant narcissist who TURNS HIS BACK on his fans and his creations.

"If you want to respect someone, you cater to them as if they are helpless babies who are never at fault for anything." - Neil Gaiman
No, Neil. You treat them like reasonable adults with the same accountability and earning power that everyone else has. That's how you show respect.

I made the exact point you're making in a response to the BIC article you were referencing. When creators create a world and share it with the public they are asking the public to invest time and money into the world. At the same time, the public is asking for consistency and continuity from the creator of that world. When a creator makes changes to the world he is responsible for providing an explanation for why a change is being made especially if that change breaks canon or changes an aspect of the character. If a creator is constantly changing the world and characters why should anyone waste their time and money in that world or, better yet, why is the creator even wasting his time making something he knows he will just change at a future point? Great video.

I just don't get why these big time authors seem to have forgotten this fundamental aspect of storytelling. Maybe because they're more focuses on TV and film adaptations these days?

@@Michael_Bancroft That's what I think, but they have to know their adaptations are not even working there as it is being rejected.

First of all I haven’t read the Sandman comics, so I don’t know if these scenes played out the same way as in the original, but I was personally put off by the pretentious preaching of the diner episode -and that’s a shame because it was well-acted and dark and was one of the more interesting episodes in the entire series.
What a concept! A bunch of mortals trapped in a small building by divine powers, forced to relive the same moments again and again with the veneer of lies flecking off bit by bit as little white lies give way to shameful secrets and even more cruel truths. It was heartbreaking to watch the lonely waitress learn that the guy she has been calling over for dinner in hopes of building a relationship with him to alleviate her loneliness has only been accepting her invitations to have sex with her son when she would fall asleep in front of the television. Brutal but entertaining, I was all for it. What lie will destroy another life next when the truth comes to light? What will be the next big secret?... a few minutes later another three characters are agonizing over their gay relationships.
Yes, there was another impactful scene somewhere in there, I felt awful watching the waitress being forced to acknowledge that the manuscript of the book she has been writing for years as a way to escape her mundane lonely life is a futile delusion of success and then being compelled to burn her book page by page and blind herself for refusing to see the truth in front of her. The previous scenes however lessened the big payoff at the end by disturbing the flow of the story. All the impact and tragedy building-up between the scenes was ruined for me because of the preaching and statistically impossibility taking place. Wow 4 out of 6 people in the restaurant gradually come to the revelation that they are gay as they are forced to be honest with themselves? The big reveal was actually that everyone in the world is secretly gay and has convinced themselves they are not unless their ability to lie is removed from them? Are you serious? The intrigue and tension build-up went up in smoke for me as my immersion was broken with each coming out scene. Needless to say, I spent the rest of the episode trying to guess who will be converted to homosexuality next and forgot all about the people being held hostage by an unhinged magician and that there were stakes in this.

Pretending not to know what woke means is classic for woke ideologists. Neil talks about his original work written decades ago instead of the Netflix adaptation, it is the TV series that changes the original work for reasons related to politically correct. As I have already said there is the past and there is woke, the past is problematic and must be changed, Neil may have included LGBTQ characters in his story but when The Sandman was written the community was not called LGBTQ, there is no it was gender theory and pronunciation. Because for many sjw progress is an end in itself.

After hearing about this, Michael, I'm a tad ashamed that Neil Gaiman's surname rhymes with my first name. 🤨
Still, it reminds me that these creators are still ticking all the wrong boxes. Instead of creativity, talent and willingness to entertain, they're doubling down on subversion, deconstruction and preaching with zeal. ☹

  • @Jason_Black

He's really close to grasping something (halfway through the video) that all fiction is disrespectful of reality. I'm looking at someone with wings on the screen right now. How is that sensitive to the dignity of the marginalized or acknowledging the lived experiences of the oppressed? Just shhh. This is supposed to be a proactive effort to entertain people with fantasy. Any rules about "just treating people with respect" are absolutely empty. Neither reality or fiction can follow that rule to anyone's satisfaction and trying is tiresome and tawdry.
We're telling you, Neil, you make obvious unforced errors, when your focus is divided between trying to entertain, and trying to hold these radical Far Left standards.

For me the thing that political correctness gets in the way of is decency. When I go to the mall most women look great, and there are also several walking around in sports bras and spanks and I just wish that someone would tell them to get dressed. You don't need to show off your body to be beautiful and with older men showing too much is a big turn off.

It's not really your business how someone dresses, is it? Take your puritanical values and use them on yourself if desired, but don't project them onto others. We also have dress codes for a reason.

It is funny that the Bible states that " a good tree can not produce bad fruit and a bad tree can not produce good fruit" yet this god created Satan and all kinds of malevolent spirits and beings so what does this say about them. Probably the basis for original sin and Biblical racism IE "children inherit the sins of their ancestors." Really wokeness is honestly just a Christian heresy as Marxism/Communism is with their views on inherited guilt/original sin. Which is what White Privilege is in their cult and their hatred of Feminine Sexuality that appeals to "the male gaze," their hatred of individualism, their collectivism, their authoritarianism, their hatred of pleasure that does not benefit "the whole" etc. Really wokeness is just identity Communism/Christianity.

@@Michael_Bancroft Oh, I know about the race swapping of gingers, being one. Have you noticed that ginger is an anagram of a slur for black people?
As for the Christianity thing, been getting a few recommendations lately of people bringing it in when not applicable to the topic, so I will critique it if it's on faulty ground. Since Yahweh is "the tree" and Adam and Eve were "fruit" (and Lucifer et al), it's a feel good statement that it proven false by the source. There are other Biblical statements that are true, this one just isn't.

I watched the Evil dead and From Dusk till Dawn series not too long ago, and i was SURPRISED by how good they were. It felt like watching the original content but modernized. Like REALLY modernized. Not filled with modern propaganda, but modernized with better effects, modernized with filming techniques, modernized with improved storytelling methods. These SJWs are like those imbeciles who call themselves "progressives" and dont understand that being a progressive is about seeking progess. And most importantly, modernizing and progress arent just "Do the new thing that everyone in pop culture wants to do", sometimes thats called regression and is only modern by name. SJWs have their head stuck up so far up their own ass that they cant tell that WE LIKE MODERN PROGRESSIVE content. We LOVE IT. What we dont like is TRASH content tryingt to claim itself to be "muh modern much progressive". These people need to learn humility in order to understand that art is ageless. For fucks sake, Snow White is older than the world wars and it still holds up. They will never see it, and thats ok, they left their mark on society. They got their chance to leave a legacy on the books of history. We will sadly write about how certain age or art sucked ass but eventually society moved on from it and found a spark to light the fire of passion once again.
