Melody was allowed to sing, so was Carmit (who left after the first album and reappeared in the reunion before they split up again). Nicole was hired as the lead singer, Melody was the second voice/background singer and Carmit was there for harmonies. Ashley and Jessica were the only ones hired solely as dancers.

I will definitely defend Melody when it comes to the over-emphasis of Nicole. Melody was the only girl in the recording group besides Nicole that had to sing at her audition, so logically she should've been able to sing more since that's what she was placed in the group for.
I most definitely agree, but from the start she KNEW that she was signed on to be a dancer because that's what it was MEANT to be. I always liked Melody since this album came out

ikr. the whole time I am wondering if the other girls could sing until I heard Melody , that made me mad. like they put Nicole way too much in the spotlight and the other girls seem more as backup singers and dancers, kind of sad though, but you would think their music company would have common sense to know that back then other groups try that same stunt and it did not work at that time😒 so I'm not surprised I guess that's why America just stopped on groups doing girl groups and stuff it's because some of them just don't know how to work.

Lol actually before Nicole joined the group they still had vocalist, Carmen was their lead vocalist, Carmit and Staci also sung, and Melody was hired as a vocalist, she said during her audition she didn't have to dance all she did was sing and got picked to join the group immediately and Jessica and Ashley also sing aswell before Nicole joined the group and after leaving the group.
