How lovely. I was practising singing a couple of old romantic Italian songs just a while ago. My first time hearing Beniamino Gigli sing. Magnificent is indeed the correct word to describe it. Thank you for another precious gem, MS!
Hi Simone. So pleased to hear you liked Gigli's rendition of this famous song. I can imagine you trying it out, too. Nothing like singing and music to help us through these sad times. Gigli ws recognised as one of the best tenors of his generation. I, personally, like his voice a lot. Thanks for comments. Good to hear others are enjoying the clips.
Glad you enjoyed this version. So many singers have used it in their concert performances, operatic and popular genres. Gigli is certainly among the top interpreters of this Neapolitan classic. My favourites among today's tenors are Jonas Kaufmann and Juan Diego Florez. Thanks for commenting. Appreciate your input.
Exquisite rendition of this all-time Neapolitan favourite by one of my all-time favourite tenors... 💖⭐️💖 Gigli may not have been the greatest of actors, but he definitely was one of the best singers ever, sporting an impeccable vocal technique, his singing being completely unforced and always smooth... Thank you very much for sharing this beautiful snippet from one of his once so popular movies! 🙏🍀
You obviously delighted in this clip, HR. I'm so glad because, like you, I do think Gigli was one of the best tenors. He seems to have got lost, except amongst opera aficionados. The later crop of tenors have emerged in an 'Internet' era which has helped them gain the eye of the general public. Gramophone records, mostly 78s, and a few films have kept Gigli alive for which tenor lovers are grateful. Thanks, once again, for your comments. Always interesting.
@@MinstrelSurfer Thank you very much for your kind answer! I frequently enjoy your uploads, and sometimes I just have to write a commentary... My mother used to be a big fan of Gigli‘s - so that‘s something I must have inherited... When I started taking vocal classes, my professor asked me if there were any singers I could think of as role models. He was a little astonished when only tenors came to my mind (and later, when he heard me sing, he had an explanation for why my singing „technique“ - there wasn‘t much of it in the beginning - assembled typical tenor characteristics. Being female, I had to drop those and learn differently) So, I mentioned a handful of tenors I loved and he just listened with the face of a Sphinx - until I mentioned Gigli! Upon hearing this name his eyes started to sparkle, and he said: „Well, if you must listen to tenors instead of sopranos (they‘d do you much more good) then please stick to Gigli! His intonation skills are unsurpassed, there‘s not a bit of strain to his voice, and even when you (accidentally) pick up part of his technique he will be the least „dangerous“ one...“ I was quite proud of myself then because of the exquisitely favorable choice I had made... 😂 (well, at least one favorable choice... 😉)
A supreme perfect masterpiece of euphony!!!
Bellisimo!!!

Good but Caruso was the best.
