Gorgeous reliable and fun to drive.. its a win .
Bob is a great sidekick.
jody024 yes more bob
Lucky me, I see Bob all the time. I'm going to the Mariners/Twins game with him tomorrow. Considering I'm from Minnesota, who do I root for?
Root for Bob.
I'm seriously addicted to Bob!
The best part is, when you are the same age as your wife's father, it really gives you bragging rights at the Country Club.
More BOB. Moarrr!
Very nice, i like it
At least Mazda didn't put a CVT in this....
Young Won, Could you give a data where it show "all" the Honda Accord owners switching their previous gen accord?
This has to be one of your top reviews simply because you had Bob there. Bob's insight from the previous generation is invaluable. I wonder if you could integrate this with future reviews?
Love your reviews 👍🏼
Great review. I totally agree that too many people get impatient when car shopping and buy the first car they test drive. It is such a shame and they just don't seem to care.
Just bought one last week and coming from a 2006 nissan xterra. Smaller but I love it and great gas mileage plus love the tech and LEDs. Capable in the snow and that's all I need. Great review great vehicle!
nice review Tom. I like the headlights. hate the wheel size. love the package
Great review, Tom!
Nice addition of a last model owner. Good show chaps.
Another great review Tom. I love the reference to a Macan as that is really what I want, but do not have the budget for.
The wheels remind of the ones on the Subaru Crosstrek. I'm super excited about the diesel. Don't pull a VW, Mazda; we are watching.
Joshua M : that's right, we are.
Awesome comment 😎
Great video. I have been watching every one I can find. I am dead locked on the CX5 and VW Tiguan. Any luck nudging me one way or another.
Your insights are wonderful. I love them. Thanks. One of the first to give the test drive more then one vehicle. I am at like 8 now. 18 Terrain is wonderful too...
FYI, I'm not due to drive the new Tiguan for 3-4 weeks. Good for you, driving all those cars.
Bob is cool. That CX5 is beautiful!
I love the look of this car . It's a win
Bonus points from the Brother in Law good show! My reasoning to choose the 2017 Honda CR-V over the Mazda was room, and features based upon it's class. Though the Mazda has a slightly peppier ride.
Great review as always--I think Bob should become your co-host ;)
tmh44 No Bob.
mazda design surpassed toyota and honda good job mazda.
they did that in 2014!
Great Review. I like the redesign much better. Looks more a grown up vehicle. Mazda really needs to just add the turbo from the CX-5 along with about 2 more gears in the transmission. Just saying.
At fist I hated the new one but now I think it is one of the best looking vehicles on the road
Very good idea to get a family member involved to provide actual owner's experience and perspective.
Very nice, i like it
Agreed that this segment is the property of the CR-V and the CX-5, but this new version is hard to beat!
Nice sister in law burn! Would love to see a turbo in the Mazda, GT Should have one. Great review!
I would also recommend test driving more than one car. My friend who was set on a Kia optima drove that, a Legacy and Accord. Ended up leasing a Kia Niro, go figure.
If only Mazda starts implementing Android Auto and Apple Carplay, then I wouldn't have to think so much about the New CRV. Right now I have the 2015 CX-5
In terms of comfort and ability to climb hill which one is better?
They need to update that gauge cluster and kick or proximity lift gate.
It isn't required that Bob's sister's main squeeze co-habitate with her; many attorneys in matrimonial issues will, for a price, make new arrangements! Seriously, a great review as always. Too bad the manual gearbox is gone. I still miss typewriters, too.
Fortunately, typewriters are cheap and easy to come by. Sticking a manual in this car? Not so much.
Wonder why Mazda is so late to the Carplay & Android Auto party.
93455Driver easily hackable for android auto.
Free update coming out for 2018s later this year. Not sure about 2017 but I imagine the same.
Both of these guys have amazing hair for a couple of "not quite" old dudes.......lol.
You should see his sister. Her hair is awesome. Our kids are very hair lucky genetically.
More Bob please!
I'm helping an employee of mine replace her 2014 VW CC (ghastly repair costs!) and of course she want an SUV! This has to be the most stylish and fun to drive small one out there! CPO in the same color/model here in Reno so we'll see! Yeah Bob!
Is it still worth it even if it’s used ? Nowadays?
i have the 2019 ! whoohoo !
Wow !
I really like Mazda's new approach but they need higher power versions of a number of their vehicles.
Are you planning to review the all new 2020 Mazda CX-5 Turbo ?
Is it worth to buy? Yes it is,IMO
So Tom... are you gonna be reviewing the Mazda CX-30?
It needs another 100 hp to be a Porsche Macan for the masses.
It's a cayenne-ish
the interior wasn't modest before... in my country, the old model competes with a downgraded interior crv and x trail, the cx-5 before this was the most fun to drive (by a Longshot too) meaning the engine was in no way bad, the price made sense for what it is, the crv and x trail was similar in price.
it competes with the same cars in the west does it not?
btw that nice interior this car has will be downgraded to so much hard plastics in my country try XD it just looks so good there...
Bob is a pro
Bob sits to far away from steering wheel
I was looking at both the CRV and CX5 but the big turn off on the CRV was the cvt so my only option is the cx5 since everything else is boring to drive
for the price, it really needs more power and tech. Kia SportageSX to ,e is where it is at.
Diesel should be available in September. $2800 premium, 40 mpg, 310 lbft torque. Slightly slower to 60. Tow capacity 3000 lbs. Educated guess 😁
kapsgunner83 I am waiting for the diesel version. I have been driving BMWs and Audis for the last 15 years, Mazda is the only Japanese brand I would consider when comes to exterior and interior designs, plus I don't know any other Japanese brand has a new diesel coming out.
Delonte is my daddy Torque is high but not available lower range like 2.5L petrol has. Diesel are generally slower but can tow more.
Tom and bob look like Leslie nelisom
i've heard the brakes could do better, what is your impression?
I had no issues with the stopping distance or pedal modulation.
No word on the seats...have they been improved?
Improved? Seats are a personal thing. I suggest a test drive.
Review the new Audi Q5!
On the schedule but it will be awhile.
Mazda seems to be afraid of giving more horsepower and torque to their vehicles. This is a disappointing trend.
Normally I'd agree with this, but the weaker engines go forever. I'm willing to take the power loss if it means the car can make it to 300k without any sort of major replacements. The engine in my Speed3 went at 82k. It was modded, but I know it wouldn't have made it more than 130-150k stock. My parents bought a 6 brand new back in 2006. It has 250k miles on it and is still going just fine to this day.
I wonder if you ever returned all those paper rolls!
I'm fine either Mazda not having a billion trims like other brands
I wish they improved the interior and NVH, but kept the exterior styling. IMHO, Mazda ruined the CX-5. It had that chunky yet friendly and very "one-piece" look, now it has this long hood and narrow headlights from the late 1980-ies. Do they want to compete with the QX-50? Meh. And as always, I hate the non-removable tablet in the middle, which does not support neither Android Auto nor Apple CarPlay.
You don't need paddle shifters on cars like these
Most cars don't need them but I would think Mazda would have them.
Why not?
I'm the first today to make a comment!!
About all this tp youv'e been buying over the years Tom...you may want to see a gastrointerologist.
I rather have a 4runner
rotary powered CX5 when?
No. Not happening.
Driven Car Reviews would be pretty cool tho u have to admit
BlueLightningRelease Rotary could be used in future as range extender on a mazda EV. think BMW i3 with small range extender.
Never.
You can't own a cuv and say handling is important to you.
But if you need the utility, why not get the best handling available?
Driven Car Reviews got me there I guess, just found your channel love the reviews
Welcome to the channel then. It's a good group here.
I know most people obsess about manual or automatic, but if it's an automatic I want to know what type. Huge difference between CVT, single clutch and dual clutch gearboxes.
To save time, I'm always very specific. "Six-speed transmission" means it is not a CVT. I always indicate if it's a dual clutch.
Wishing there was a panoramic sunroof instead of one glass moonroof.
Tom! When are you going back to The NY Times? You are missed!
That's good to know. You'll have to watch here for the time being!
The interior design is an acquired taste and definitely not mine. The wheels look horrible to me (can be changed though). Engine performance is what?? Just good enough for poking around town? The rest maybe ok but not exciting.
Enough with your test drive spiel. We get it. Some of us like a brand and like to stick to it. Some of us also already know what we want without needing to test drive a hundred cars. Your constant test drive sermon is just as bad as those that preach you to buy a certain car. Just stop.
I've had dozens of people tell me that my chastising made them branch out and discover new vehicles. Feel free to bail out of the last 20 seconds.
I love my 2016 CX-5 - this looks even nicer. Please people, don't buy a frigging CRV or Rav4. They look terrible and I don't want to see them on the road anymore.
atl3630 I disagree. The new cr-v is better overall but I would not tell people what to buy. Everyone has difference preferences.
You've opened possibilities... how about your wife reviewing some cars. Women often do more of the day to day around town errand running style driving then the husbands.
My wife would leave me if I suggested that. She doesn't like cars and doesn't like being on camera (even though she's a fox).
It's this or the CRV in the segment, and the CRV is just too ugly, ugly front, ugly wheels, ugly lights, ugly rear chrome bar.
Michael Zhu Bang on target comment
Michael Zhu crv actually looks good now
You must have a Pontiac Aztec if you think this is ugly
I actually love the crv, are you talking about the new model or the old one? both looks good, the new one is better imo.
The 17 cr-v looks more rugged than the girly cx5. Plus it's overall the better car in the class.
Boring car for boring people.
Ikr ! it's so boring because Mazda is known for building fun-to-drive cars and made for boring people like car enthusiast. worst car ever! we need cars that made for moms and families to go to grocery stores or picnic like adnoh or atoyot . now that's FUN !.
