Happy to have something to keep my jig in one spot and safe. What do you think of my solution? Anything you would have done differently? Let me know below.

Beautiful job on that. The inlay came out great.
I personally would have made the lid hinged, and glued in small blocks of wood or high density foam sized so that they keep the contents from shifting. Kind of like what festool does with their systainers that the tools come in.
I need to make one of these for my dowelmax. I bought a few extra pieces and upgrades so a fixed home for all of it would be really nice.
Also, I'm not sure how much you work with dowels for things like cabinets or other projects that require two drilling depths, but for me, it was well worth investing in an extra drill bit of each size so I can keep the stop collars at the two different depths.
Keep it up! Looking forward to more of your projects. 👍

@NWGR Great idea about having extra bits set up.
I thought about doing a hinged lid. Then I figured out where I was going to keep the box, and a sliding lid worked better for that location.

Another well done video, Matt. That box you made for the jig is beautiful, highend furniture grade. Now all I have to do is buy a CNC. Man, woodworking CZcams videos are expensive! Thanks again for posting. Mark

Lol! I hear ya. I've spent my fair share on shinny new things I've seen on CZcams, that's for sure.

Nice clean design. Visually appealing. I think JessEm would approve.

Very pretty. Adding a small magnet in the front of the box and the lip would keep it from sliding around, if you were carrying or transporting the box. The lid slides smoothly. Adding small magnets there would help it stay closed until you give it a tug. Beautiful project! I like how you share your 'mistakes' so we can all learn from them! Thank you!

Yup. I added a magnet a few days after I finished the box.

Nicely done. Would you consider sharing or selling the vectric for file interior parts holding piece? Thanks

The design and carve files are available on my website. I just added a link in the description. Thanks for watching.

Dude, you have the CNC....you should be selling the design for others who have a CNC and I plan on picking up this master kit and dont have a CNC....you can sell the box for a reasonable price that still puts some nice profit in your pocket. I am sure there are a lot of kits out there without a home. ;)

I won't be selling the box itself, but I do have the Vectric file and Gcode on my website for those who do have access to a CNC.

Very nice. Do you have SVG files for the tools? I have a Shaper Origin as opposed to a gantry system.
Watched your other JessEm videos. Appreciate the tips.

Hey there I hope today finds you well. I have a question about Doing and inlay. I am looking to do our house number using an inlay of contrasting woods. Knowing the UV issues and heat issues I experience in phoenix . I was wondering if you have any ideas of wood species that may hold up to UV . Rain is not one of my worries as the house number will be mosty safe from rain. I don't know much about exterior projects . Thank you for the time .

Ipe, teak, cedar, maple, iroko, white oak...would all be good choices. Finish with Spar Urethane. Good luck with your project.

curious about your design process, how did you accurately get the pockets for the various tools? Thanks for any info provided :)

I just measured each piece and drew the size and shape I needed in VCarve. After some test cuts and small changes, the pieces fit just right.
