  • Should the FUJIFILM XH2 be a Cinema Camera?
    Welcome back to the channel, in todays episode I am going to be discussing whether or not the Fujifilm XH2 should be a cinema camera, I talk about Sony, Panasonic and Nikon and their market strategy, I feel that Fujifilm have too many photography based cameras and should start to diversify and the XH2 is the perfect camera for them to shift in that direction!

      - ProRes RAW okay. But BRAW also !
      - Stay on SD V90 card (for 4K 120p - 422 10bit internally)
      - true viewfinder
      - keep dials
      - SDI output
      - XLR output
      - eND filter internally
      - Basicly a truc APS-C or S35 or subS35 sensor with good low-light (as good as X-T3 is enough I think !)
      - Working on video codec, like 60 / 100 Mbps H265 or h264 4k 422 10bits with those wonderfull fuji film simulation, ready to go to Internet / TV (where canon is good at)
      - adding professionnal output : XLR and SDI
      The purpose for me is to get a full featured Documentary camcorder. With high-end frame and versatility.
      As they have GFX line for cinema camera ! (bigger sensor = harder to focus and more expensive / heavy lenses.)

    I've been saying this for over a year, Fuji could do so well if they made their own equivalent of the best selling FS5/7, Now FX6/9. Not necessarily Cinema specific camera like Arri, Varricam and RED Etc.. but an All round capable video camera that is still light and ergonomic enough to use for Documentary and factual TV work. To release such a camera soon though, they would likely be best using a flexible lens mount or one that can be switched out (Like the Kinefinity cameras) as Fuji have virtually nothing in X mount that is truly video capable due to their photography lenses having only electronic rather than mechanical focus. Luckily, Fuji are very solid lens producers.

    • @ThisisnotTwitter
      @ThisisnotTwitter Před 3 lety

      I should also add that they could release a GFX Version with medium format sensor raising above what the others are doing with FF, but they would need to invest heavily in AF.

      I think they would be banking on people buying their cine zooms which are very light and cheap compared to the market but still make for an expensive purchase, I think the next XT single or XH will be definitive of their current technological capabilities, the xt4 is still quite new so it’s gonna be interesting to see what they do... fingers crossed

    Right with you on this Alps. I moved to Fuji because of the video capabilities of the XT3 which is a great value for the money. Held off on the XT4 for many of the reasons you mentioned and will buy an XH2 if it becomes Fuji’s video centric model. That camera would then become my A camera and the XT3 would become a B cam. Fuji needs to listen to you, Aditya Varna, Sean Boyd, Palle Schultz and others who have done great things with the Fuji X series. Fuji give us the XH2 that filmmakers want.

    Fuji needs a mini cinema line no doubt. It has to stay relevant and competitive. It also needs to give a clear path for upgrading for its xt video users. Thus it needs to have these features:
    6k upto 30fps, 4k upto 120fps, prores raw, 14+ stops of dynamic range, mini XLR, full hdmi, much improved auto focus, ibis, no heating issues.
    All of these features are incredibly important and cannot be neglected. Basically we need a bmpcc6k on a fuji.

    YES they should. They have so many Photocentric Cameras. They produce Cinema lenses. But no Cinema Camera. It would be great to be a hybrid with 70% video and 30% photo an a 24mpx sensor for 6K@60fps and 4k@120fps with 12bit RAW and high birate options. Full HDMI and external recording on an SSD.

  • @joshdiditt
    @joshdiditt Před 3 lety +2

    Exactly. And it has to shoot at least 6k 60p, 4k 120, Custom Dials modes, 180 degree shutter, unlimited recording, full HDMI, better high ISO performance, flip out screen, RAW recording, a mini xlr would be clutch, plus more. No one is going to buy a crop sensor camera with the same specs and similar pricing as a Full-frame when they can just get a Full Frame camera. They need to stand out. I have a XT3 now and if they dont come out with a beast XH2 and faster weather sealed primes, I'm switching. Don't know why they dont make a 18-35 1.8 X mount. That would literally kill the sales of the Sigma 18-35.

    • @AlpsLifee
      @AlpsLifee  Před 3 lety

      The way I see it is this, a good photography camera can be an excellent video camera too, but it always seems to lack certain things, in this modern era hybrids are great, but a good video camera will tend to only be just that, good at video with subpar photography features (A7S3 for example, BMPCC4K etc) for a good hybrid video camera the megapixels would have to be around 8-12 for good lowlight in 4k, I don’t see many photographers wanting that, I think the trio or duo of offerings to cater more to one side than the other would benefit photographers and videographers individually, but hey if they could make something amazing that’s still a hybrid and still can target advanced filmmakers then I’m all for it :)

  • @JayGrapherTh
    @JayGrapherTh Před 3 lety +2

    still think hybrid is the way to go - an R5 style or now recent release sony S1 camera and dont forget the Panasonic S1H.
    though i do wonder why the XT4 isnt "pro" enough for photographers. maybe its the screen? and so they are looking towards the H2 to be their "pro" photo - sports wild life camera.
    but if its a cinema camera you are hoping for, what kind of body design are you thinking of? still the same DSLR style body as the H1? - put a fan in it like the panasonic S1H? could be a nice idea.
    but I think H2 will be hybird while they release a new S1 for their cinema line in the future as well.

    • @AlpsLifee
      @AlpsLifee  Před 3 lety +1

      I mean if I’m honest all I want is one body to be more video focused without ibis, digital IS I don’t mind as I can turn it off and still use lenses with is, I don’t even mind if the body is the same like with the GH5 and the S, or bit bigger with a fan like S1H, I would want way better battery life, so I’m inclined to go towards the cube style body, it seems the most flexible, doesn’t need to be huge, I’m one of the few people who actually likes the design of the C70 if that gives you a clue

      do want a variable ND filter like the sony FX5?FX6? - so one can have smooth adjusted exposure than the step up rings on the C70.
      a body without ibis? - isnt it possible to turn it off? - in any case so it will also be like the sony FX5/6 where it has the internal gyroscope and you get what i heard pretty good digital stabilization through their program?

    I like the idea of the Black Magic competitor -- but it should not be called XH-2. I think they already established that the XH series is about more DSLR like cameras. I'd appreciate the better grip, to be honest. I have an XT-3 and the grip leaves something to be desired. I have a hard time shooting it with one hand.
    For making the Fuji ecosystem great for video, I think they also need to update their lenses. When doing amateuer videos, I had tons of trouble with suddenly changing exposure in video. It gets better if I lock aperture and I read somewhere that older lenses can only adjust aperture in bigger steps which cause this exposure stepping.
    On the XT-3, if I am serious about a video, I'd switch to all manual settings now. Which can be annoying.

People don't like that. The XT4 with that nasty flippy screen is the perfect size and weight for vloggers. It doesn't get better than that. Of course the XT4 is the first of it's kind so it is expected to keep improving in video performance, with the next model which of course people will have to buy one hahaha :-) The XH2 should not be for pure video it will most likely be something like the Nikon D500.
