I just found this and wish to thank you for a serious and informative presentation. For several different reasons, I was prescribed gabapentin and could not take it due to excessive sleep whereas I could not wake up (or be awoken). First pill I slept for over 17 hours. Waited a day and tried again, slept for 13 hours. I need it, but the adverse reaction scared my family and me too. Have never found anything to replace it. Is there a suggestion you may have? Great video. Nice layout and voiceovers that make information accessible and clear to the lay person. Your simple yet clear reminder that the info is educational only is great. (I’m a paralegal who does med mal defense, including several cases including pharmacists.)
It prompted me to note that I should/need to set up appointments to review my medications with both doctors and a couple of my pharmacists.
Information like your video should be very helpful to people to ask questions of their local physicians (and pharmacists).
One can and should be able to ask his or her pharmacist specifically about contraindications BUT LET PHARMACIST KNOW THAT HE OR SHE CAN CALL BACK - this allows the pharmacist to do more in-depth research, including looking at updates from FDA or the PDR.
Thank you for taking the time to put your videos out. I look forward to watching more.

This medication works on a particular part of the brain that very little is known about. Ask your Dr. or any pharmacist how this drug works in the brain and you will get a blank stare.

The effect is good in neuropathic pain like in diabetics but also as antianxiety medication mostly in addiction after detoxification. One thing I have noticed is that after 900 mgs a day in divided doses memory (short term) like finding words, names appointments becomes an struggle for a number if patients. I have ADHD and been an amphetamine addict for about 25 years also taken a loooot of bensodiazepines. Today I take 5- 10 mg diazepam and done so for 6 years with no medical supervision. In Thai you can buy anything over the counter. Feel good. Tried gabapentine 2 days ago. 1 tab. No idea how strong but it was something very different. Didn't sleep well but felt good. I don't take any stimulants anymore at all and G P helped to calm down the Never-ending restlessness in my brain. But that was me and my brain. I'm just curious about if gabapentine is better than valium? Or lesser of two evils. I'm 49. I'm not ready to stop taking something to help me relax at night. Have had 4 seizures when I stopped drugs 6 years ago and don't want to go there again. Anyone knows if it's safe to switch? I'm dependent on diazepam. Not really addicted ADDICTED but wouldn't feel great just quit. Just trying to be honest and wonder if anyone knows🧠 😊❤️from Thailand 🇹🇭

@@catherinejackson6571 oh yea. But I'm happy to say that I stop every now and then just because of that. There's no big problem the first night or two but I get very stiff in my back when I wake up. That's pretty much it for me. I had those horrible moments when I was young. Trying to clean up after eating loads and loads of benz... That was no fun. But today... Pretty OK. Doesn't kill me to stop 5-10 mg. Its not pleasant but manageable. I hope you will be able to find those moments of strength to taper down. Or... Maybe you need it😊

Sorry but I stopped listening or having drs or pharmacists who moved to the United States for these particular jobs. These folks need additional education, additional experience working under bonafide professionals. After that, they need to continue education even after entering private practice. And, these folks ofter end up opening Medicaid Mills, where the focus is on profits and at times, fraud and theft using these particular patients!

No need to apologize for exercising your God given right to choose what you listen to on the internet, especially in a country like America. No offense taken. Matter of fact, let me recommend a good pharmacist channel that does medication reviews - Pharmacist Tips. Don’t know him, never met him, but he sounds like he was born here and has awesome med reviews. All the best.

It is completely habituating. That's a word we use when "addicting" is too inflammatory. As to suicide, if gabapentin is given for pain it is not so good at controlling, I suspect suicidal thoughts that preceded the gabapentin become more urgent. There's nothing that makes a person crazier and more desperate than pain. You don't talk about pediatric dosing. My doctor is trying to force more gabapentin into me than I'm comfortable taking to get me to ignore bladder infection he's unwilling to treat, because I don't hurt when I'm asleep. My other doctor wants me to get more exercise and less sleep. I wish they'd talk to each other...
