Is it wrong I still consider Doom 3 my favorite entry in the series? Probably. It might not be the 'best' one objectively, but the environmental storytelling and the atmosphere always gelled with me in just the right way.
Doom 3 is the odd one of the doom series, the only one thats actually scary and spooky somewhat. And not just a slasher. And thats were it divides, people who liked the classy slasher part were youre just the imba doom guy and fuck up all aliens often dislike doom3. I m the opposite. If you like doom 3 you propably like dead space and space horror in general
I loved this game. Played the original one and remastered. I liked how Swan and his bodyguard tried to stop Betruger but died trying. This game sacred the shit out of me. Walking through doors, corridors, hearing shit and knocking. Heavy machinery and more. Loved this Doom Game.
I believe Betruger died when he entered the portal. Considering the form we find him in he is literally a tongue inside the mouth of a demon. As if the Demon is speaking through him. Using him as a mouth piece. Wouldnt make sense for the Demons to keep good on their promise with a human. Regardless makes me wonder what the real Betruger was like before entering the portal, kinda sad to think about.
yeah I remember the time when I was hearing Ian Mccormick's video log, he stated that Betruger was really talented, I was imagining that Betruger felt bad and guilty for the the deaths of many people during the teleportation experiments, thats why he decided to enter the portal by himself, unaware that its hell.
Considering the doom 2016 and eternal stories, Id say there is a good possibility there isnt something possessing betrugers new body, but more like a modified version of betruger, depending on which dark lord influenced these events.

Manek Iridius Thing is, Betruger constantly talked shit at you, which made the antagonism between you and him more palpable. He also seems to be in charge, like Betruger was possessed by Satan himself or something, whereas Olivia was still just a lackey at the end of the day. Those two things serve to make Dr. Betruger a more enjoyable antagonist. Helps that he’s also extremely hammy, like he’s channeling Emperor Palpatine whenever he’s going full blown demonic evil.

Between the events of Doom 64 and Doom 2016, an unknown cycle of universe's coming and going passed. Doom guy stayed in hell, becoming the Slayer. Becoming legend. Each universal loops has an earth, a UAC and the like. At some point Doom guy made (or someone) the soul cube. During one of those universal loops, Doom 3 happens. Referencing the events of Doom via the slab and the cube. Doom Slayer wasn't involved in the events though. Part of me hopes Eternal will reference the two heros, Doom Slayer and the Marine.
Say what you want about Dr. Betruger, but I get some serious Alister Crowley vibes from him. Wonder if his design is loosely inspired by him with both of their fascination of the occult.
Wrong, the story is very clear and has left leaning points. The news are hilarious and the corporate ads on mars city feel like union busting tactics. I mean doom guy doesn't shoot civilians and he's not wicked i feel like most soilders get turned during the demonic break in to prove a point. Would be nice to see the dev team views and direction for the game.
@@kevgmei You can say the same with Doom 2016 and Eternal, and literally so, just replace the emails with codex entries and the communication with noc with Samuel telling you how handsome the Seraphim (Who's true identity is yet unknown) is. The only reason why it feels different is because the scenarios are far too confined and the Marine moves too slow, other than that is story wise not too different from those 2.
I really hope the Soul Cube's appearance, as well as those possible Mother Demon embryos, are more than mere cameos. I hope their a sign of sinister things to come in DOOM Eternal... 🤔
There really aren't many places one can find more in-depth info about the doom series. With this channel being one of the few that does do content on that topic, I feel lucky that these are so well done and not just sloppily thrown together :)

I like to think Doom 3 happens simultaneously as the original Doom. We got to see how the demonic invasion uncovers in the first moments of Doom 3, and when it happened, it was at the same time classic Doom also began. Doomguy and Doom Marine both battled through the evil unleashed and went to Hell, in different spots (although Doomguy went to Deimos first)

i wonder what happened to Hayden and the crucible in doom eternal, but i have a theory.....in the eternal gameplay it shows the archvile and Doom Guy is wielding a handle with his Hell Mark on it and then it makes an energy blade the same shape as when Hayden took it from Doom Guy at the end of Doom 2016, which suggests it may be the crucible, but also at the end of Doom 2016 Hayden teleports him to an unknown location, but he couldnt have been teleported to earth, what was the point in that? i feel he was teleported back to hell and somehow Doom Guy managed to get back to Mars somehow, but that doesnt sit well with me, and the idea that he couldve been teleported to earth isnt any better...so somehow Doom Guy got back on Mars where Hayden was last seen and got a hold of the crucible while also using the technology on the Mars base to upgrade his suit, maybe with or without Haydens help, and in the process accidentally creating a portal from hell to earth

I started playing doom 3 again and this video was in my recommendations I started watching it when I noticed it sounded familiar now I know why I watched it a year ago lol
What I hate about Doom 3 is that you don't fight Betruger as the final boss in the main story when you should have, especially after all that running around causing demonic havoc on Mars (and Earth if the portal never got closed) and killing everyone on it. Resurrection of Evil kinda fixed it but my opinion still stands. I want one of the future Doom games to have an antagonist that has a huge resemblance to Betruger, kinda like the same person, and have Doomguy beat him as a Demon (similar to the Maledict).
I love your channel. I find too many "Explanation of ___ " videos are just describing what the creature/character looks like or does in the movie or video game. There's no lore, no attempts to explain why they look and act the way they do, etc. Your channel is the best at this!

Doom 3 is my fav of all the dooms, ID dared themselves to make it different and unique but it's still Doom in spirit so to speak, I personally can only hope Doom Eternal brings some of that creepy atmosphere that Doom 3 had back and in droves!

A few things. A, notice the 4th tablet looks like the DOOM classic cover art. B, they put the warnings after they explained teleportation. A bit like in Doctor Strange.
that's what I found cool about the game, yeah it's not really action packed but still interesting. and it concludes imo that Doom 3 had the best story.
So as far I can tell Doom 3 tried to describe events of DOOM and DOOM 2 to a degree, which is not bad but Resurrection of Evil went off the rails of the premise of 1&2 while adding its own flair. Its often thought Doom 64 is actually doom 3 and this doom 3 is its own storyline which is not wrong due to the newest DOOM and now DOOM eternal will add more to the storyline. Betruger is often a dismissed evil character but his often cruel and demented thoughts make him a decent character.

My favourite doom in the series. While every now and again I enjoy some fast paced run and gun of Brutal Doom and Doom4, to me story and atmosphere tops brainless twitch shooting. And doom is really rich with lore and not many people realise that doom3 4 ties in, just most people don't really know that or are too ignorant to look into it. Like the tablets here showing the Doom slayer from Doom4, the ultimate slayer who you get to play in D4, who is actually the warrior of this ancient race with the power of many. In D4 it's not really explained. It's all here.
What i wonder is: where did Delta survivor go after closing the portal? i only remember him being found by an other squad but what then? did the guys get out of there or do they had a glorious last stand before finally being slain? Afterall in the vanilla it´s said that only security recruit survived
I'm late for the party in this video. Doom 3 to this very day is an underrated game. I like how they put more emphasis on the survival horror aspect. While I enjoy the current Doom games, they focus more on the action and platforming and there are little to no scary moments in the game. Betruger was such a great villian and I hope they bring him back.
I still think Doom 3 had the best version of Hell in the series. It really felt evil and satanic whereas Doom 2016's Hell was more like a metal album cover.

I want one of the future Doom games to have an antagonist that has a huge resemblance to Betruger, kinda like the same person, and have Doomguy beat him as a Demon (similar to the Maledict).
I love the pacing of the story like at the beginning you can hear Hell Knights over the Marines radio before you meet one.

I love your channel. I find too many "Explanation of ___ " videos are just describing what the creature/character looks like or does in the movie or video game. There's no lore, no attempts to explain why they look and act the way they do, etc.

Litterly been playing this game all day yesterday. I like it more then the latest doom game simply cause it has a creepier atmosphere.

Doom 3 is my fav of all the dooms, ID dared themselves to make it different and unique but it's still Doom in spirit so to speak, I personally can only hope Doom Eternal brings some of that creepy atmosphere that Doom 3 had back and in droves!
it is different and unique, but the run and gunning of the other dooms was the best part of doom as a kid and even now

Doom 3 is my favorite in the series. I even liked it more than then newest one.
me as well, but in terms of the story, atmosphere, graphics and maybe some of the monster designs. but I'm not really a big fan of it's slow paced gameplay.

doom slayer is only in the reboot, he isn't in the original games as well. he's fucking wild compared to doomguy and doom marine.

A few things. A, notice the 4th tablet looks like the DOOM classic cover art. B, they put the warnings after they explained teleportation. A bit like in Doctor Strange.

I miss the story telling of doom 3, simple and strait foreward, but if you read all the audio logs you get so much more
that's what I found cool about the game, yeah it's not really action packed but still interesting. and it concludes imo that Doom 3 had the best story.

So as far I can tell Doom 3 tried to describe events of DOOM and DOOM 2 to a degree, which is not bad but Resurrection of Evil went off the rails of the premise of 1&2 while adding its own flair. Its often thought Doom 64 is actually doom 3 and this doom 3 is its own storyline which is not wrong due to the newest DOOM and now DOOM eternal will add more to the storyline. Betruger is often a dismissed evil character but his often cruel and demented thoughts make him a decent character.

My favourite doom in the series. While every now and again I enjoy some fast paced run and gun of Brutal Doom and Doom4, to me story and atmosphere tops brainless twitch shooting. And doom is really rich with lore and not many people realise that doom3 4 ties in, just most people don't really know that or are too ignorant to look into it. Like the tablets here showing the Doom slayer from Doom4, the ultimate slayer who you get to play in D4, who is actually the warrior of this ancient race with the power of many. In D4 it's not really explained. It's all here.
What i wonder is: where did Delta survivor go after closing the portal? i only remember him being found by an other squad but what then? did the guys get out of there or do they had a glorious last stand before finally being slain?

The last mission dlc was made after doom 3 and resurrection of evil. It basically retconned in more survivors.
I'm late for the party in this video. Doom 3 to this very day is an underrated game. I like how they put more emphasis on the survival horror aspect. While I enjoy the current Doom games, they focus more on the action and platforming and there are little to no scary moments in the game. Betruger was such a great villian and I hope they bring him back.
I still think Doom 3 had the best version of Hell in the series. It really felt evil and satanic whereas Doom 2016's Hell was more like a metal album cover.
