  • still trying to narrow down the poor running at high revs, valves are always good to keep on top of any way.

    Hi Rick! Thanks for the video. I'm starting to hear a small tapping noise near the exhaust flange or the rear cylinder. Hard to say wich it is. Would a valve adjustment be needed?

    • @BareBonesMotorcycles
      @BareBonesMotorcycles  Před 3 lety

      Could be, its not to hard to check them in any event. The engine is a little tappy anyway, but if its a new noise, then it never hurts to check. 👍👍

    Very good info and clear presentation 👍. One question, do I have to drain oil then do this? Cuz I see some oil

    • @BareBonesMotorcycles
      @BareBonesMotorcycles  Před 4 lety +2

      No you dont need to drain the oil, the oil in the video is from the front exhaust valve cover, it just collects there a little. Just be ready to catch it with a rag or cloth when you take the cover off

    Hi. Nice bike. How does it handle a traffic? Does the bike heat up? Get damaged by the heat?

      So far ive not had any issues, but ive also never been stuck for a long period of time. If i knew i was going to have to wait around for a long time, i would turn it off

    I know I’m a bit late to the party but do you rotate the fly wheel to TDC for the front inlet valve? Tried doing mine this morning and now I’ve got a horrible ticking noise from the front cylinder

    • @BareBonesMotorcycles
      @BareBonesMotorcycles  Před 8 měsíci

      Its been a while since ive done it, but i believe yes, you need each piston at tpc for the adjustment.

    So the rear cylinder was T notch but what’s the front one? Just plane notch? Waiting for the carbs video cheers man

    • @BareBonesMotorcycles
      @BareBonesMotorcycles  Před 4 lety +1

      Thats right. There are 3 notches, the 'T' is tdc for the rear, the 'I' is tdc for the front, and the 'F' is the firing mark.

      Don’t use the (T) on the (T I) mark. Only use the (I)

    don't know if it matter now but i had the same problem with my fuel pump i replaced the fuel pump it fixed it but it is doing it again now. so i replaced all my fuses and have a new cdi on the way.

    • @BareBonesMotorcycles
      @BareBonesMotorcycles  Před 2 lety

      Surprised its anything to do with the fuel pump. My next stop would have been the cam chain

    • @nottogood415

      @@BareBonesMotorcycles might be that. ill have to look. i also ran fuel sytem cleaner through my bike and tapped the fuel pump to unstick anything that might be stuck also tapped my carb to unstick the floats if that was adding to the cause.

      @@BareBonesMotorcycles have you done any videos on how to adjust the cam chain? Also, is the tensioner a simple case of take out old and put in new or is there more to it?

    Really great video and very informative. I'm in the process of doing the same on my 535 and also struggling to get the bolt off the inlet cover of the front cylinder, was really hoping to not have to take the carbs out as I'm not too confident on that.
    Regarding taking the float covers off which you mentioned, I did this then other day and cleaned out the floats and jets and it runs a lot better now - would not start at all without using the choke!
    Would love it if you could do a video removing the carbs as I find your videos easy to follow!

    • @BareBonesMotorcycles
      @BareBonesMotorcycles  Před 4 lety

      Hi, i ended up using a small series spanner to get to the last bolt. Its a pain to get to without taking the carb out, but it is do-able. Ive got a video coming up with a carb clean etc. Thanks for the support. Glad you are getting something from the videos. 👍👍

      @@BareBonesMotorcycles That's a good idea. I spent a while last night adjusting the valves but have since given up. For some reason the inlet valve on the front cylinder feels very loose where you can move it up and down quite a bit. I've tightened it down as much as it will. When the engine is running you can hear it ticking.

    • @BareBonesMotorcycles
      @BareBonesMotorcycles  Před 4 lety +1

      @Matthew Ellis it might be worth getting a shop to look at it, it shouldn't have needed moving far, or get a workshop manual do double check while you are doing it. I only had to adjust mine by a small amount, 1/4 turn or so. You may need to check if your cams or lever arms are ok. Or the ticking could be the cam chain.

      @@BareBonesMotorcyclesthanks again for the advice. I ended up getting shot of that 535 as it had too many issues. I recently purchased an imported xv400 virago which is very nice! Not much different to the 535 except the dummy tank and speedo in kmh.
      I’m currently working through some jobs like changing the oil, plugs etc. Think I’ll get my local bike shop to check over the carbs, valve clearances etc.
      Hope you’re 535 is still running well!
