    Feel like there should be a major disclaimer, "results not typical". There's going to be a lot of young people who watch your videos thinking they can be like this guy but the thing is, you need serious luck to succeed on Shopify. Any moment Shopify can change something, his supplier could change, etc then he would have to find a new business plan if wants to keep making money online. So to start preaching about being a college dropout and making an insane amount of money online to the younger naive audience without letting them know it's not a walk in the park is dangerous territory in my opinion. This whole video came off as if it is a walk in the park to make $60,000 a month and school is useless. Anyway, love the videos Graham!

    • @GrahamStephan
      @GrahamStephan  Před 6 lety +751

      Thanks for the comment and I really appreciate you watching! I want to spend some time answering this one because I feel it's really important. The results are not typical, but for ANYONE who's ever been successful, their results aren't typical - so I don't understand point of placing limitations on yourself. However, even though I believe it's important to show both sides of the coin - that there will be failures, you will mess up (just look at my second listing presentation video - he didn't get the listing, it happens), and there is a confirmation bias that you generally only see the people who succeed - at the end of the day, it's how you handle these situations that sets you apart. If Sebastian quit when his first product failed, he wouldn't be here today. If I quit 9 months into selling real estate because I didn't sell a house, I wouldn't be here today.
      Sure, many people fail - but you tend to get what you focus on. If you focus on the possibility of failing, that's generally what you'll end up getting. If you focus on succeeding, that's generally what you'll end up getting. $60,000 isn't a small feat by any means and I don't mean to ever downplay it as something that's easy, but I really believe this is something we're all capable of at a certain level. The internet is such an equalizer of opportunity and there have never been so many possibilities before now. And the best part of this - if Shopify changes, if his supplier goes out of business, if something happens - Sebastian has the mental fortitude to do something else and make it work. This type of personality will find a way regardless of what happens. Inevitably, I think Shopify WILL change. It may not work 5 years from now...but there will 100% be other opportunities to move to. No business like this will ever be entirely consistent long term - but I'm confident he'll continue pushing the limits and finding new niches.
      Now of course this isn't to tell everyone "Drop out of college! It's a waste of time, start an internet business!" But it's demonstration that college is no longer a barrier to make money and that you have the opportunity to forge your own path because that's what YOU want. Set a goal and go for it - especially when you're young.
      Just my thoughts of course.

      Graham has a great replay to this but i have one too. Think about it this way... 9 months ago i could have watched a video similar to this and knew that this isn't something that happens ever and results are typical and i shouldn't strive to be like this kid making 60k a month. What happened? I worked hard and never looked back. I don't believe i got lucky in the slightest aspect. I think if 10 people did exactly what i told them to do they could be making 60k per month in half the time that i did it. If my supplier changed i would adjust and correct the issue. I do see what your mean by saying this video makes it seem somewhat easy to make 60k a month, however let me tell you something, its not easy but its far from as hard as you think it is. Let go of the idea that a certain amount of money is a lot. its just paper thats a tool for other things. Once you stop believing that 10k a month is a lot you'll make 10k no problem.
      That being said i know ill make over 100k per month before 2019. Will i get lucky if i do? hell no i just know i will because i work incredibly hard and most people don't and that might be the reason results "aren't" typical.
      Thank you for watching!!!!

      Awesome, I respect that point of view. There are definitely a ton of ways to succeed financially without a college education and it's awesome to see success stories like Sebastian's because they are so inspiring. I just wanted to make that comment because this vibe in this video was a little too upbeat and it didn't really cover that it's not an easy thing to do and there is always cut throat competition. I hope I am not coming off as a negative nancy

    • @GrahamStephan
      @GrahamStephan  Před 6 lety +103

      Definitely not coming off as a Negative Nancy, but it's definitely something I think that's worth addressing and discussing. In order to go above what's typical, you'll need to take risk - take chances - and adapt as you go along, just part of the game. HOWEVER - It WOULD be a cool idea to find a few people who failed and get their take. But I have a feeling it would be more of a mindset switch than a strategic switch if we saw a side-by-side comparison...that could be an interesting concept.

    • @notunder8738

      Sebastian Ghiorghiu The fact that you think it is teachable to others and achieve the exact same (or better) results in a shorter timeframe than yourself makes the story interesting. So the things you do can be extracted, parted from your person and transferred to anybody? If that thesis is correct, I happen to fall into a paradox. If that knowledge and those skills are transferrable, why aren't there many more shopify millionaires and success stories? If you put all your expertise in 1 course and give it to 1000 people, and they all do exactly as you told them, would every single one of them get the wished results? And if not, what is the variable that differentiates the unsuccessful people from the successful ones? I am really curious about that and would love to conduct that kind of experiment!

      If you’re not sure what direction to go, take some useful classes that’ll apply to small business, sales, or whatever you’d want to do instead of college. I took a resume’ and interview class, found seminars that were worth a credit, and took psych classes to help w sales. Don’t throw away too much money, but while you find your direction, take classes you will find use out of. Then research the things you want to build around, CZcams will teach you specifics about whatever you want to know! Set goals, and maybe a timeframe, be creative, and act!

    1. Make up your mind to do something.
    2. Determine what that something will be
    3. Educate yourself on that something
    4. Take action on your something
    5. Find someone successful at that something and duplicate their actions
    6. Understand that early on you will probably fail as your new to that something and that's ok
    7. Understand why the failure occurred and change what you're doing
    8. Once you have reached your definition of success of your something you can then find another something
    9. Take your lessons in success and pay it forward

    Guys, you are amazing! Thank you for sharing! I'm 10 years older than you, yet I find it interseting to listen to you. Also, I would like to comment on true wealth, when you are not just rich but also happy. I feel a strong connection between income and freedom. And too many people, having a high income, don't have the freedom to be themselves or to live a relaxed life and be at peace. The money in itself does not feel like anything special, but it is the freedom and options that it provides that is sooooooo precious. The whole point of having as much passive income as possible is not to just have as much money as possible but to have the freedom to choose whatever lifestyle you want. It is the freedom that is important because it gives us an opportunity to be happy: to be doing only what we love.
    There is occasionally a mental trap that can happen sometimes with people who earn a lot. They forget what they like and what makes them happy and they end up chasing money for the sake of money itself, while contributing nothing to the world. These are the people usually with prestigious careers(sometimes also business owners), who also end up chasing after title status and higher positions without realizing it. That is a whole mental problem that does not help to feel happy. Some of those rich people end up chasing after looks and spend millions of dollars on plastic surgery. In other words, they spend crazy money to impress others instead of inspiring others (like you guys do). So, I see big difference between those two kinds of rich people. The rich people who are always chasing money (and or looks/status/fame/career titles) are rich but NOT happy. And you represent the other kind of rich : you are rich AND happy. That, I believe, is the most rare combination and you are the minority.
    I am very happy for you, guys. And I am very inspired as well. Thank you very much. You do not try to impress anyone. You simply inspire with honest sharing of your own experience. Keep inspiring because this is how you change the world for the better. Nobody improved anyone's life by trying to impress others. I say BRAVO to you!

    Graham, you are one of the youtubers I respect the most out there. So I feel that anyone you promote should reflect the quality, the hard work, the dedication, that you put in your work. I used to be subscribed to Sebastian, and honestly, I never got anything. He was always vague, never a standing example, always some kind of fear of being transparent.
    Long story short: I don't like him and think that most of his content is useless to someone looking for real value.
    You, Graham, are the real deal, and although I'm happy you're getting coins from this video, I just wanna tell you to pay attention to whom you host on your channel, because you are such a diamond youtuber in a sea of plastic ones, and anyone you promote should always stand to your standard.
    Cheers

    Love it!
    The answer to why someone would go for an hourly wage once they've tasted passive income is that they enjoy it.
    In my case, the real passion I have in life is aviation, and teaching aviation. Once I hit financial independence from passive income, I still need something to do with all that time. My plan is flight instruction. I love it, but it doesn't pay well. It's paid by the hour, but if I don't need the money to just survive, I don't care. I get enjoyment just from doing it, and can make my own schedule, so my time is still mine.

    10:50 this is something that was so hard for me to overcome but is so true. I'm 19 turning 20 very soon and just recently started saving and investing. I haven't seen a significant return (and don't expect to for a while) but I'm happy I took that first step. I was also was given an opportunity to own 1/4 of a small business, which I took. I don't think I would have done this if I hadn't started watching these kinds of videos (even though it was essentially being given to me, I just have to put in the work to grow it).
    With that being said, I am currently in College and paying student loans which is mostly from family pressure. Several of the courses I've taken so far have been useful and applicable in my life while others have been down right useless. I'd say go to college for the experience and possible job opportunity but, it's not going to guarantee you anything unless you put yourself out there.
    Thanks for making these awesome videos Graham!

    I saw his channel 4 or 5 months back. He makes the big bucks by selling courses on shopify and all that jazz similar to most of the other Amazon fba drop shipping youtubers.
    He's a young kid who's only been doing Amazon, shopify etc for only 4 or 5 months. If you're going to buy a course, buy it from someone whos been doing it for years.
    There are literally hundreds and thousands on youtube who sell Amazon selling courses. I'd only pay for a select few if you were going to pay

    • @GrahamStephan
      @GrahamStephan  Před 6 lety +23

      That’s part of his business but not 100%, he goes into more detail towards the end of the video. My thinking is that people generally buy something because they can relate to the person versus the information - the delivery and being able to relate to the person is just as important. Regardless it’s an incredible accomplishment for someone at 19, or any age for that matter.

    When I started watching your channel(about 3 months ago) I was working a 9-5 that I hated, with a part time. I worked 7 days a week, barely getting by, I made 50k a year at 19 years old. I was miserable, I left my jobs. I took my savings ($6,000) and invested it all into stocks. After investing into the stock market, buying and holding. I made an extra 2,500 in profit. I took that profit, opened a shopify business. I'm currently working on opening this business, onto of my already booming detailing business. Having multiple sources of income has helpped me. The best advice to follow is "Taking Action". If you never make the jump, you'll never create your own success. Also, watching Sebastians channel as well has been helpping me. It's so cool to see you guys together

    Yes I am watching some of these older videos. I guess I am at least a year late to find you. It is making me think bigger about my passive income. My passive rental income has soared from $1k to $11k in just 3 years looking at $14k at the end of the year. My goal since my teens was $3k a month. Passed it! My nut is less than $1500 since I paid off the house but may have to buy wife a new car at some point. Hum.
    This is in addition to my six figure remote programming job. I also have a Texas Real Estate Broker's License that I got in 2005 that I keep current. I just got my AC license and Universal EPA permit for my rentals that I have not used yet. I can easily see $16k by 2020 in passive rental income. It has soared faster lately and now I am totally debt free with over 800 credit score. Hum. I wonder if I am leaving some on the table. Maybe I could leverage into some more properties.
    It is weird that instead of being totally content I really am looking at ways to make multiple income streams while growing the rental income. When you find a niche and formula you really need to duplicate it. I found one way for me has been buying run down mobile homes, moving to my land, and remodeling then renting them out for $600-$800 a month. I just bought a 2/1 yesterday for $300. I just love the revenue stream. I am addicted. This makes the 28th rental unit with 8 in process of being renovated. I think 50 is a nice round number.
