- what are the six most common and worst beginner mistakes? I thought about what I've seen in almost twenty years of Parkour and these are six things I wish people would stop doing RIGHT NOW. Maybe this helps a little.

This guy feels like the virtual riot of parkour
Who? And why? 😆
You gotta look him up. Virtual riot is a producer and does Tutorials for producing!
Love the park bench counselling 😂 fr though some wisdom there
Haha thank you
I was inspired after watching Parkour for Beginners last week. Seeing the world around me with "parkour vision" is the fun part, actually doing it is not easy at all. Simple tricks that look super cool and effortless with Jason are hard and clumsy for me.
yoo! welcome to the Parkour world :)
Maybe it helps to know that the beginning is always a bit awkward.
Usually enough repetition will turn a clumsy trick into something that feels natural.
@@TheJasonPaul "In true Bruce Lee manner, they're not doing a thousand tricks once. They're doing one trick a thousand times." - Jason Paul 🙏
Jason just wanted to say your story about learning parkour has inspired me to stick with the process and I’m definitely getting the road map to parkour😂
Happy to hear that :) Patience and persistence usually pays off!
i made the first four mistakes out of instinct not but with number 5 you opened my eyes why my precision jumps neer stick, becaus i dont stand low, thx for evrything made, you made me fall in love with parcour
You're making the levels method idea undeniably appealing. I'm intrigued just to experience the way you break it all down.
come to the dark side :)
I think that's hilarious. Because you're shining light from, where I'm looking. 1 of the brightest I've ever seen.
Satisfied customer here - worth it just for extended 'hanging with Jason Paul' hours. Oh and the instruction is good too
I just finished looking through the majority of the free content. Watched the videos and read a few lesson plans. That is an xdreamly comfortable and effective set-up to educate an open mind Jason. I'm impressed. The more I see you breaking down into beginner detail. The more I realize how much I am already capable of doing, with some task specific warm-up. Flips & Twists with all their variations are really the only things missing from my bag of tricks. The main thing is really just putting in the time. We'll see what I can manage through the rest of this year, with all the changes that have been going on here.
czcams.com/video/0cfefwCpCwQ/video.htmlsi=i-O2qKWImtCNH4Ic this was last month.
Number 2 is soo important! Number 4 was a sign I think. I told myself when I could stick a precision 2 feet longer than I am tall, I would work on learning a backflip. Think I'm going to wait a bit longer.
I still fall for number 4 every once in a while 😆 there’s a reason I had to deliver it to myself in the video
filmmaking is getting better and better
With mistake number 3, I found that lining the bar/rail with my second toe (the one next to the big toe) does wonders for your balance. The second toe almost runs all the way down the middle of the foot, and it really made balancing easier for me! I use that tip with the kids I coach, and they find it super useful!
I feel like the biggest one, warm up properly! You're using your entire body, it's important to make sure your body is warmed up thoroughly... it gets you ready (mentally and physically), but also helps prevent injury!
Brilliant video Jason! See you at OMFG
100%, that's how I show it in the online course as well.
The warmup one is so true, and I even see advanced and Pro's mess that one up. I can't skip it at this point, every time I do a half-assed warmup I tweak or pull SOMETHING.
see you at OMFG!
Super nice video! Very inspiring but in kind of a down-to-earth kind of way. Sehr gut!
Thank you 😊🙏🏻 was a hard one to not get too preachy in this video 😆
When it came to balancing on rails, I was like oh no. I invested so mutch time with bad technique ?
But then you showed me I was doing it right the whole time.
BTW what are the vans you are using ?
big up for making this! good guide!
Wait I was just watching your videos... now you posted a new one?? Awesome!! You're amazing at what you do. In complete awe every time I see you do something.
Wow, thank you ☺️❤️
Always so interesting and useful 🙌🏻
I was going to joke about why it's ok I can't do a backflip. 😅 Jason's reasoning and mindset advice is so good though, I just want to say how refreshing it is to hear him talk about being a beginner at parkour. It's not always that those who can do something well can also communicate it so well, especially to beginners. Jason's videos are gem's. I'm going to go practice my balance now...
I def had the unhealthy obession with backflips. I actually was able to do a backflip at one point but was so worried about losing it I ended up training back flips and not parkour.
loved it just the slight feathering with jason 2.0 was hard to ignore, but still overall great video literally don't remember having most of these problems starting out though i'm 100% i did and i only see them with other beginners and that'll be a great reference point as well as most videos you do about that topic, so to that thanks again 😁
oh man, I can't believe I missed the bench blending into my knee lol
there's always one or two imperfections in every video that I only seem to notice once it's online haha ONE DAY, one day I'll make that perfect edit
@@TheJasonPaul the perfect edit will come to you once you don't need it XD
Thank you so much for creating this video, Jason! I was engaged in it very much as a parkour coach myself. Keep up the great educational videos!
Hey brother i have been following you about 8 years and i have been doing parkour about 6 years. When i started to do it, it was fun with doing friends we learned couple of tricks, we learned how to do the tricks right and all, we had fun but my friends started to lose their enthusiasm to do parkour aaand only im left doing tricks and stuff by myself alone. I want to have a motive to continue on this journey but its really hard to resist can you make a video about some motivation or can you please give some advice for people in the same condition like me? Thanks a lot.
So much of Parkour is falling in love with the process of learning new movements and combos. A focus on only outcomes is going to leave you frustrated. If you can enjoy the process then you will have fun and be happy even when you aren't understanding a move or caught up in the fear, and that joy is what is going to keep you going and keep progressing
I made the mistake of standing up after a precision jump a year ago. I have a scar from stitches now :)
haha, I also had to learn some lessons the hard way >.
the backflip one is so right
This is insanely well put together, man. Smooth, and clearly thought out.
Love your vids man
Thank you ☺️🙏🏻
Love the introspection you include in your videos
I know your course targets beginners, though if you ever want to expand, as an intermediate, I’d def benefit from a course w some training direction and inspiration !
Thanks Mike! I’m actually working on an advanced course right now and then I’ll tackle intermediate moves in a course next. I hope to cover the whole spiderweb of beginner to pro in the next years to come 😊 which then means I can also expand my CZcams content to more advanced topics as well 😁💪🏼
@@TheJasonPaul Nice, that's cool. Also neat to see that you're putting so much creative energy into content and teaching right now
You move so smoothly that you seem to be floating!! So amazing skills my friend!!🙌🏽🙌🏽😃👍🏼👍🏼🔥🔥
GUILTY!!! I only started learning parkour after i learned the backflip cause as a young teen i was like "backflips are probably the coolest thing ever and them i started learning it from a tutorial of a german parkour athlete called urbanamadei and then i realised "oh wait his parkour vlogs look cool i wanna do that too!" 😂
So pro edition! Really good video, thanks u :)
Glad you liked it! (◕‿◕)
I have definitely made mistakes 2-6! 😳🤦 Great tips!! 🔥🔥😎😎👏👏
Number 4 is why i quit parkour and after seeing a Jasons video for the first time in 2 years i feel like i have to do parkour again. XD
Fuck yeah ,let’s go 😃
I have learned basic moves of parkour like precision jump safety roll safety vault I also have learned monkey vault lazy vault thanks to you Jason Paul love you ❤
this is the best kind of comment, so hyped to hear that!
@@TheJasonPaul thank you so much 😁
Awesome!! 🔥🔥😎😎 I'm gonna go learn to backflip today!! 😃🤪
I'm so happy you understood the message
I hurt my foot for the first or second time I can't remember but I was trying to jump over a hole I'm always jumping over but this time I guess I landed a bit weirdly on my right foot and so every time I step down it sends a shock through my toes but really I didn't take it as a reason to quit parkour or make me not want to do parkour I actually just took it as a lesson and it made me want to do parkour more and I've always jumped off my trampoline all the time but did it hurt when I first did it yes but since I trained myself more and more I can do it like nothing now
And do you think my legs are getting a good workout when I jump on my trampoline alot and I'm probably gonna be riding my bike again so do you think that's also a good workout for parkour
Mistake Number 2 costs me a wrist 😅
I wish I had this information for a long time ago
thx bro
I have been following you
And I am inter parkour
i will comment the old ones before you post more
Love it
cheers!
Love the video
7:32 but you missed the opportunity to say "like a bird, like a Vogel in German we say"
From the webster tutorial
I am deeply ashamed of this missed opportunity
Jason wich flips should i learn and how: webster, sideflip, frontflip or backflip
Hey there! If you’ve mastered the basics I would start with the following acrobatic moves: forwards hip circle on the bar, pullover on the bar, butterfly kick, macaco, Parkour roll, diveroll, handstand and front handspring.then you will have a good foundation to move on to harder tricks like the backhandspring, frontflip and aerial :)
Oh, I forgot the one handed cartwheel!
Do you still play video games for fun?
it's so rare these days, because there's little time left in the day. So I resorted to watching Let's Plays on CZcams. But I have some video format ideas with video games I hope to try soon :)
You could come out to Northern Ireland uk to teach me for a video I’m 10 and a begginer
Jason you are such a skibidi😂
wtf is a skibidi? 😂
I started building a parkour course in my garden
Hi I'm from Myanmar
Hi :)
what other common mistakes can you think of?
Starting to jump downwards too quickly and injure knees/ankles/feet or back, or putting too much force on the wrists before you get the sufficient strength... I did some kind of "parkour" when I was a teenager in the early 2000's and back then my body was of course indestructible. But closing in on my 40's, I'm trying slowly to get back into more freedom of movement, but I regularly put too much pressure on my wrists or ankles (e.g. cartwheeling without a warm up, jumping down from terraces etc). It's hard to realise things don't come as fast as they used to.

I agree, I would also add to this not warming up. Not going through some specific warm up from internet but learn to feel the body and how you need to warm up, many people do it differently. Through years of exercise I found what works best to me. I have really vunlerable joints, when I don't warm up in my way and for example try to do something from urge to movement when I see something when I go out, it can lead to injury. If I do normal proper warm up I always do before exercises I don't have this problem. I was climbing for more than 1,5h years, I havent had much problems yet thanks to my warm up and stretching/mobility routines etc. So next one would be to listen to your body and learn through experience, not always take everything for 100% what other tell you, experiment and feel into it, how you feel next day etc. And not trying to improve too fast, if your body need break, give it time.
I would add something again xD Its good to see physiotherapits and tell him what you want to do, if you have some problems, tell him and correct it thanks to his advice/guidance. I used to search everything on the internet but sometimes for specific condition some exercises can lead to worse state.
I wish I saw that 10 years ago 😂🥲
I am guilty of 2 also I didn't expect so many bricks (thats a lota bricks) don't worry I won't make those mistakes after this thanks for the warnings:)
I watched the beginner guide video and the way you broke it down into easy to learn steps way very helpful and now I have a great starting point to practice thank you :)
yo! let's go! so happy to hear that! ᕕ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° )ᕗ
❤❤
Y u hate wall climbing
It's just a little hard and for me it's boring to try it then jumping, flipping
