Don't laugh, but I learned to knit in junior high (yes, it was junior high, i'm showing my age). When I was locked up in ADOC (Az), I went two hours a day to 'education' and knitted kids booties, socks for inmates, shawls, scarves, knit caps for babies, toddlers, kids for other inmates. All I charged was the cost of the yarn, a pack of tuna/salmon and a yellow bag of Keefe Coffee and a pass to the front of the microwave line. I NEVER had to wait to heat anything up while I did my time in ADOC.
It's amazing to me that someone can go from serving years in prison to running their own show successfully enough that they attract paying sponsors. It IS very inspiring. Now if you'll excuse me I need to get back to eating Cheetos and yelling at my cat.

If I was a warden, I’d be hesitant to allow board games like Risk and Monopoly. Those games are a DEFCON 1 security risk for normal people in the free world! I’d sure as fuck have goons ready with tranq darts in case someone lands on a hotel’ed up Boardwalk :D

There's actually thing called prison neurosis and essentially what it is, is when prisoners literally go insane at the thought of their sentence and when they'll be freed.
I got that in the "psych ward"... No windows, no clocks, no TV, NOTHING! You couldn't even have a BOOK in your room. The room wasn't much different than a prison cell. 6x8 room with a concrete pad about 2 feet off the ground with a 1 inche mat and one sheet, that's all you got! Is what drives you crazy is they don't say when you're getting out, you never know what time of the day or night it is, there's nothing to do in the room and you're locked in 23 hours a day. The other hour is 20 minutes for each meal which wasn't EDIBLE! You all sit in one small room, eat and right back to the room. I was WISHING I was back in prison... OH, plus no showers. Just a sink and a bedpan... Messed up...

Fortunately mine wasn't as bad, but there's strip searches, no clocks, no private time, no strings, shitty velcro on the shower curtain (so you cant hang yourself and they always fell down), enforced activities, solitary (fortunately didnt happen to me, thank God), horrible food, no freedom, didnt get to wear your own clothes or eat with everyone else for the first 24 hours... I'm sure there's more horrible shit, but I was pretty sedated when I got there and I only stayed a few days

The gray bar hotel I stayed at had a rec yard we could go out on to during the times we we're outta the cells, but I didn't go out much at all cause it was too depressing to see the Free world....same with the phone, I called home once in a while to say hello and that was it.
Been rocking with APS for awhile now and I just want to say thanks for the great content and the awesome story telling. It really helps me keep things in perspective and it’s extremely entertaining. Anytime I feel like things are too hard, or they’re just not going my way. I can always look at it and think “you could be in prison or in jail again” and those things just don’t seem like a big deal anymore. I’ve got my sobriety, a family who loves me and a handful of great friends. What else could you really ask for? Thanks Joe. Keep up the good work.

I passed the time a lot of different ways. My main hustle was being the barber. That hustle kept my locker full. Here's some other things: Pinochle, Working Out, Reading, Getting High, Major Cell Phone Time, Writing Letters, Tattooing or getting tattooed, Gambling, Setting Up Drops, BS'ing, and whole lot of other stuff. My last bid was 7 years and I made the best of my time.

The one dude I could not stand in the County Jail was the guy who was serving 10 or maybe 30 days but every time we got some new people in he would inform them how to go about their case. This guy knew EVERYTHING except how not to stay outta jail because I seen him return 3 times in just 4 months

The one dude I could not stand in the County Jail was the guy who was serving 10 or maybe 30 days but every time we got some new people in he would inform them how to go about their case. This guy knew EVERYTHING except how not to stay outta jail because I seen him return 3 times in just 4 months
