- This old sea shanty came into tiktok and took it by storm, didn't it? The version I am playing now has the easy chords, but I am happy to provide the original chords if you would like those too. Just let me know in the comments
Here’s a little history
"Soon May the Wellerman Come", also known as "Wellerman" [c. 1860-70] is a sea shanty. The song refers to the "wellermen", supply ships owned by the British Weller brothers who emigrated to New Zealand. In the early 2020s, versions by British folk music group the Longest Johns and Scottish singer Nathan Evans became viral hits on the social media site TikTok, leading to a "social media craze" around songs popularly considered sea shanties

Only one question: at 3:21, isn't it Em Em Em Em - Am Am Em Em ?
It seems that way when you play it later on (There was a ship that put to sea [higher, Am] and the name of the ship [lower, back to Em] was the Billy o' Tea...)
Same for the next verse in the intro. I may be wrong, but it sounds that way, always ending on the Em.

I've been thinking about learning to play an instrument lately (no previous experience) and it looks like ukulele may be a good choice! These videos are definitely encouraging. I do fear though what will happen if my initial enthusiasm fizzles out at some point....
motivation comes and goes, so it is a good idea to have a plan to help you with that. I recommend you join our Facebook group, Ukelandia. That helps a lot of us stay motivated and inspired :)

I felt like jumping into the hard stuff would be a faster way to learn.what i have learned is i absolute have not mastered the art of continuing to stum while trying to change chords. I'll get there.
Hi Elysia! I did the same thing... I jumped into the difficult stuff first and it made the easier stuff a lot easier. I have a 5 day strumming challenge and a 5 day strum+sing challenge. Maybe these would help you with the chord switching. Both of those challenges are here on CZcams ;) ❤️
