  • Guide is shown for fuel filter replacement and fuel system bleeding or priming on Hyundai i30 (PDE) 1.6 CRDI D4FB (U2) Engine.
On this engine as explained in the video the fuel system cannot be bled by hand fuel priming tool as i have recorded manually fuel system bleeding procedure diagnostic tool is required which has capability of fuel system priming function. I have left that part in the video in which i tried to bleed or prime the fuel system by hand operated priming tool to be seen.

I thought this was going be like changing the oil filter. The Fuel filter is a lot more work.

And also to be careful not to allow trapping any air bubbles in the fuel system which may lead to damaging the HPFP.

@@stanhopeautorepaircentrewardak that's why i took it to a hyundai dealer. changing the fuel filter was about 280 euro, which is insanely expensive. the filter alone was 130 euros which you could get one for about 50 online. i didnt want to take any risks because it was a new-to-me-car. :)

Hi, great video. When it comes to bleeding the fuel filter (not everyone has a diagnostic tool to bleed the filter), could you prime the new fuel filter by filling it with diesel first before installing it. After the pipes have been reassembled and the electric fuel pump has been primed by switching on the ignition, surely the engine would start straight up as filter is full of diesel??

I followed the service manual instruction, and i didn't try filling the fuel filter up, but on this model, the fuel pump will only be activated when the ecu receives the crankshaft signal, not with only turning the ignition key to the on position.

Thanks for replying. I just wondered if filling the fuel filter would help with the bleeding process. The earlier i30 diesel engine had a hand fuel primer on top of the fuel filter housing which was brilliant. Why do manufacturers have to over complicate a simple service item. Thanks again for posting the video.

Hey thanks for the upload. I was wondering if these 1.6 crdi engines really are reliable? And how long do they really last? Some say they are garbage and some say they are superb

They are reliable, if you take care of them and feed them on time (routine, interval service) it is Japan technology copied by Korea. But if anything goes wrong repair is expensive etc turbo charger, CR fuel system.

Hi, I have a Kia Ceed crdi 2013 which has the same D4FB engine, I’m a delivery driver, I deliver like 80-90 parcels in my car every single day, so I literally start and shit the engine more than 100 times a day and use it for very short journeys, the engine surprisingly has held up very well considering it’s done 95k miles which is around 150k km, safe to mention I do service it on time, oil change, filter changes, coolant flush, regular engine bay and throttle body cleaning and I treat it to a 45-60 miles motorway journey every week so the dpf can regenerate properly. Overall, a great choice, I’ve recently noticed a slight rough idling on cold starts only hence I’m watching this thinking it might be the filter that’s never been replaced

Mám Hyundai i 30 1.6crdi mám najazdené 350587 km to auto stále ide, denne z ním jazdím do práce cca120 km.

Mann Hummel 200.
