Marty Lacker, a member of Elvis' famed Memphis Mafia and one of the best men at Elvis' 1967 wedding, died Monday after suffering from kidney failure. He was 80. He's the second member of the Memphis Mafia to die in recent months, following the November 2016 death of Joe Esposito, the other best man at Elvis' wedding.
'He went to school with (Elvis), that’s how they met. My dad was from New York, the Bronx, and he dressed just like Elvis did. They just formed a bond of friendship through that. They always took up for each other. Both of them went into the army and afterwards, a good friend of his re-introduced them and he went to work for him', said Mr. Lacker's son, Mark. 'They were like brothers. They respected each other'.

In the early days when this all started, Elvis needed a father who had a brain in his head!!!! Elvis would've had a completely different life if he had an attentive father who actually had some sense and payed some attention to what was going on in his son's life instead of just being an observer. His Mother definitely had more influence over her son and it all fell apart when she died, she knew who to keep outta her son's life and she knew that Parker was a demon and these people were all leeches 😢
From what I have read with respect to Vernon he was no better than some of the guys that were hangers on. It seemed Gladys held a job more than Vernon. Maybe I have misunderstood but I just don't think very highly of Vernon. Gladys was a good mother, loved her son and looked out for his best interest. She was better at reading people probably because she cared the most.
Vernon was working with Parker. Parker knew that Vernon was scared of being poor again, and used Vernon to get Elvis to do things he didn't want to do. I believe that's how he got roped into signing the 2nd 5 year movie contracts and doing crappy movies he hated doing!
@@anital5020Exactly!
@@sandralybrand9425 I am sure you are right. I didn't think about Parker working on Vernon. Yes, he didn't want to be poor again and I certainly understand that. My daddy was born in March 1935 in Kentucky. He was the same age as Elvis and grew up poor. His dad worked as a mechanic for a car dealership. Dad talked about living in a 2 room house that you looked down at the floor and could see the ground under the house because of the space between the floor boards. Not a fancy house. Ha ha. Dad was the youngest of 5 kids. Dad moved up to the Chicago area for work and he worked all the overtime he could get. He was always tight with his money. In his old age he would tell me he was always trying to make sure he and mother didn't end up in a soup line. So he was referring to the depression times.
It was all destiny. The seeds of the DNA were planted at Birth
I love hearing Marty tell these stories. Rvery time i hear him tell stories about Elvis and the inter circle he seemed to be a straight shooter. He didn't let people run over him either. Good for him.
Marty was Elvis friend. His allegence was to Elvis. Joe kissed up colonel parker.
Love listening to Marty tell it like it was. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for listening
Love your interview ❤
Marty really did help Elvis allot. He was one of the few that would tell Elvis the truth. If it made Elvis mad he got over it. But Marty said he told Elvis the truth because what kinda friend doesn’t tell you the truth? Elvis knew it too. Marty was one of the few that Elvis would listen to. Marty’s family did allot of remodeling of Graceland for Elvis and Vernon! He trusted Marty and them to do a great job for Elvis.
Decades later: Amazing interviews and never heard. I always say this: sometimes one knows when they know: and this may he RIP: is probably the most truthful account. It just sits right w/me. Thank u for posting.
Thk u Joe for this video I really enjoy hearing the reason on a lot of thgs … MARTY u n the other guys were good to ELVIS
RIP MARTY ♥️
Listened to all four parts and there's some real eye opening information in all of them. Thank you.
These are the GREATEST INTERVIEWS EVER! I still remember the electricity at Elvis concert in St. Louis! Incredible ❤
Marty sounded like a good hearted man 😊
He was a good hearted guy. He was Elvis friend first before anything else. He wasn’t going to kiss up to colonel.
I consider this Joe Esposito to be a total ass creeper, so when it comes to Priscilla and the colonel, I totally go along with it!
Love love love this. Thanks for sharing. Wish I could have met all of the original MM members
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@jkrein82brilliant show, Marty is very straight talking
5674 Billy Smith is still alive & i think that he attends" Elvis week" meet n greet 😊
He and his wife Jo have a CZcams channel called Elvis Fans Matter. They tell stories about being with and related to Elvis.
One of their sons and his wife have a You Tube channel called Memphis Mafia Kid.
I would like to talk with Billy but he never gets back to me.@@joanedwards-de6pl
❤Love these stories and the heartfelt recounting by Marty of the Meditation Garden construction and how much it touched Elvis!❤😊
Absolutely captivating and I think Marty is one of my favorites . What surprises me is that elvis could not understand Marty having to think about going on tour with elvis because of not wanting to leave his wife ad children
Fancy that!
This is the most substantial and believable interview I've heard.
Thank You
The only thing listening to Marty Proves is that Elvis Truly had no real Friends in his life .
Very Interesting stories!
So awesome thank you
Very insightful and it's the truth it seems.
I'm anticipating the other parts!
Thank-You!
Thanks
Marty is great interview straight shooter
Marty was always a straight shooter. Anyone who knows the "real" history of Elvis knows Priscilla's version of things is not exactly accurate.
@thesundownersclub3983 exactly that new movie Priscilla had control and she doesn't tell real history jerry schilling to because he works for epe
@@thomasandersen2938Jerry doesn't work for EPE anymore. He was replaced by Priscilla's sister's husband!
As a grown ass man only Elvis could have saved Elvis.
And he just didn’t.
First of all this is war on drugs propaganda on everyone’s part that’s how they get air time bashing Elvis.sometimes they slip and say it wasn’t all the time just a couple of times.Elvis was dying and not from drugs his problems were from heart liver and several other things that were being hid from everybody.these workers didn’t know because Vernon Elvis and vol kept it between themselves.if his last concert was filmed s month before he didn’t look near that bad.he was bloated confused from heart issues and winded.his lack of confidence was obvious.he felt uncomfortable ,wouldn’t you? Elvis deserves better from the American people and especially from those he took care of..the dea Geraldo and all those scumbags should be ashamed at what they have done to a good guy and an absolute patriot.all to oust a war in drugs which is s war in people.that war has destroyed our constitution and turned America into a police state.
Love to hear hear about ELvvis Theanks
Vernon was a bitter work shy little man who for the most part knew his limitations, which he covered with good manners and few opinions.
In private he saw himself as a man’s man, highly competitive and resentful.
This is great stuff! Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
That interviewer continually going uh uh drove me nuts.
uh uh
sorry its a habit
Love the story
Elvis bless had no friends really he bought his friends to have company but he got sick of it at end
Larry Gellar can be seen in the final concerts wearing the red Elvis jacket. Marty wrote a book
In the early 80's just like all the others. Marty makes comments here completely opposite of what he wrote. He is bitter against Joe Eposito & everyone else. Sadly another flavor of the Month liar. Jesus Christ did Elvis have one true Friend???
Well said could not of but it better my self.
Lots of people will share your story just to have something to gossip about.
If they have information on someone famous and they can get paid for it, then sadly, yes, most people will take the payday.
i read that most the guys did not like larry cos he was a spiritual man , with none of them being that way , joe esposito didn't like larry cos he blamed him for taking elvis's time when he wanted elvis to play ball . sometimes it was elvis that asked larry to do his hair so he could talk more cos elvis was a searcher . listening to marty here i think he jst dislikes him for the same reason as all the others cos he was spiritual larry called it spiritual garbage was how he saw it and like many that are not religeous
That’s the right word he seemed bitter e specially what he said about Vernon being ant semetic but then said I understand because the way it was in the south etc etc.he could have moved out of south ghe ressin he didn’t is because it was non existent
@@gassbaggerwoods5955 or maybe Larry was s real snake and just plain weird.these guys lived in the south ghey weren’t adverse to religion just not the crazy caa sad lifornia new age crap.
Marty was the most on top of it guy in the MM. it’s a damn shame Marty wasnt the manager. Uncle Tom and Vernon were from that Depression era PTSD mentality where things can go bad real fast; the upshot is that they managed Elvis from an “ if it aint broke, dont fix it” mode. Marty shows a perfect combo of TCB and artistic growth. Sure, the Vernon/Parker mode generated huge $$, but the costs of the same old same old was devastating. Elvis had zero challenges; he went on auto pilot, got bored, self medicated and died at 42. Marry was totally plugged into Elvis’ mindset. The problem was that Elvis was stubborn as hell and was hell bent to do it his way or no way. All that. But Marty was a solid.
So interesting thank you
So what happened with the loss of audio??? Was this edited or something??? Ibwanted to hear about the reason Elvis was mad about the renovation to his house!!!
Please tell me there is no longer audio missing , when. i first put it up there was a blank space of. audio . I. had so many complaints about . I even told people it was there. But i finally had it trimmed. So the whole piece of that section should be there. There are 4 parts , the 4th. will be up soon .
@@jkrein82 OK, I won't tell you😁👍 I listened to what happened on the next part.
Always great to hear Marty's stories but unfortunately he tells all the same anecdotes that were penned down in Alanna's book almost verbatim. I'm not sure if the interviewer was aware of this but if he was he should have tried to fish for some new information, unless Marty dictated to where he wanted this interview to go.
@@jkrein82 I thought the interviewer said 2008. Alanna's book was published in 1995.
Did i mention her book? @@Rick-zw7zv
@@jkrein82 Yes, when you said "I'm not sure if this was before the book or after the book came out . This was taped many years ago."
You caught me that was a guess and a bad one at that i guess . I really dont remember. I never wrote anything. I never anyone would want to hear them. It had to be around the same time

Thank you for this series of interviews w Marty very interesting 😊
Glad you like them!
Such a long second Marty had to wait wow
Enjoy hearing Marty's remembrances. Joe seemed to always be in Parker's and later Priscilla's pockets, sadly.
This video needs editing; there is a long slilent sectiion and then the interview repeats. ???
Thats been fixed . Well at least i thought it was .
The last blank space is still there. I am just playing it out on silent, because I am hoping not to miss any pertinent part.
Classic, loved it! T.C.B. ⚡🤟
At first, , then later, yes. I kinda knew this guy. He was real.
He’s the only one who I’d believe 100%. The hair dresser guy and Lamar I wouldn’t. I always suspected that Vernon was what Marty makes him out to be.
Red and Sonny west and Billy Smith. Lamar Fike Marty Lacker are the only ones I believe. Marty wasn’t very impressed by Joe Esposito. Or the Stanley brothers.
Joe was a suck up
@@peterm1826 The guys you mentioned are all the ones who have trashed Elvis the worst.
So Joe, Part II will be featured in another episode? Can’t wait. So good. 😊
yes 3 parts - he talked and talked. Sonny talked that long as well
@@jkrein82 when does part 3 come out? I knew Marty, Red, George, Alan. Richard, Charlie.
I can’t wait!!!

What pleasure.....
The trouble that Marty had was two boss's Elvis and Parker if I was him I would have gone to Elvis to ask who is my boss then if it's Elvis he would be the only one I would take notice of he might have been Elvis's manager and that's between the two of them not to do with his staff who work for him.
Why do cut the inteview off so abrutly is there going to be part2 and3❤
Yes. 2 and 3 are up.
So now it cuts off wow
ITS 30 minutes . Its explained -
Please read
Interesting listening to Marty talk about Col. Parker being self centered & about money when the last video I listened to was Parkers wife's talking very highly of Parker being caring and denying Parker was all about money..... We need to get all the liars in the same room,😂😂
Nobody walked in Elvis’s shoes. Everything I read and hear, I take with a grain of salt. Opinions are a dime a dozen. Everynody has one.
Really hated how these guys always complained how “little money” they made and wasn’t with him for the money. Please, he took Joe came back even when Elvis didn’t need him, probably stabbed Elvis in the back with Parker, gave him 200 hundred dollars and told him he would pay for whatever he needed etc. in the 50’S. So Elvis had 9 guys hanging around not doing a real job, basically partying and paying for whatever they needed and they complain. You can watch interviews with these guys Joe and Lamar always telling Elvis how to spend his money going on vacations and partying up in Vegas. Then you can watch the same interview with these guys talking about how Elvis ate and took prescription drugs when these guys did the exact same thing! Then they continue to make money off of him after his death. Even when he was alive they stabbed him in the back just for money. Thanks to these clowns you can’t talk to a celeb without a non disclosure agreement. Watch the interview with the cook, she didn’t make that kind of money and worked harder than these guys plus she has some choice words about them. Funny how a man can not even have a high school diploma yet can be a manager of a Dept Store like he said. I believe Lamar never really had a job before he started hanging with Elvis, he was basically a fan. Most of these guys had aspirations of having real jobs yet expected Elvis to fund their lifestyles for the rest of their lives. I can’t wait till Lisa Marie’s book comes out.
So why was Elvis upset over the bedroom remodel? Ended abruptly...great 😂
Not sure about ended abruptly.?

I’m sure joe was in an impossible spot. If Tom Parker was pressuring him all the time to find out their whereabouts then it was going to be really hard for him to tell Parker, “I can’t tell you where we are.” I’m sure Elvis was really mad over the betrayal but it’s obvious joe was more concerned about making Parker mad than he was about Elvis getting mad. I can see how Elvis felt very betrayed and very angry but if his manager was demanding to know certain things it really put joe in a very tough spot. Elvis would have been impossible for me to put up with. He was unbelievably disrespectful and rude to his employees. I couldn’t have put up with that.
I think Esposito played every side for self interest
@@randallanthony1794 I personally don't trust a lot of what Marty Lacker had to say. Right from the offset of this interview he gets dates, timings and logistics completely wrong. His telling is suspect when he says the kids at Humes used to tease him and Elvis about who would outdress the other the next day because apparently they dressed the same; which is the complete opposite of what Red had to say about how Elvis was bullied and how he'd already stopped one beating before the infamous hair cutting one. Also, by the time Marty got to Humes (he was 15) Elvis was 17 and getting ready to leave. Marty was at least a year below him..... and the sh*t keeps coming from that point on, especially about Joe Esposito. You can feel Marty's hatred of him.
I can give you what I believe is closer to the truth of what happened in 1964 if you're interested. Let me know and I'll reply to you.

Not a very good interview, what’s with the brakes of hanging on for a second and not even a second with the interviewer I think he needs a lot of practice to do interviews. You don’t say just a second and stop the interview and don’t come back for one 20 to 30 minutes or more
@lorraineroberts3035
Read the message above yours that was posted a couple days ago, why there was dead space in the video.
