Oh boy, this mission definitely does not spark joy. I remember the first time I completed the Trails it was literally the last mission I completed (excluding the Warchest Trail). This is more or less exactly how I did it, just as you showed here. Recommendation for the next mission to cover: Mission 46, since it's basically a more extreme version of 32 which you already covered. Then 48 after that because of the annoying restrictions. 50 only if you really wanna do it. Anyway, speaking of covering up to this point, Missing footage: Mission 37: Inferno. Scenario: Player VS Caliph+Caliph+Caliph, Deathmatch Game, No Advantage. Instructions: If you're not playing on UCP, focus on the two Caliphs on the west, since Blue will likely block himself in and be completely passive the entire game. Use the farmland wisely and Stone and Iron more greedily, while blocking any attempt of capturing the "eye" by the Caliphs. Mission 38: The Assassins. Scenario: Player VS Saladin+Saladin+Saladin, Deathmatch Game, AI Advantage. Instructions: This is a weird one. What I did was block off the path to the Orange Saladin with two Square Towers, the path towards the middle of the map with moat and a single Square Tower, and left an opening towards the Blue Saladin with two Towers and some moat outside your "clearing". Economywise it was Ale galore (buy Ale, build Inns, repeat) and Bread galore (buy Flour, get Bread, sell for profit). Oh and also the tons of Stone and Iron you have access to. P.S. the name of the game is Crossbows+Ballistae for defence, Trebs for offence as they're protected by cliffs. Mission 39: Red Skies. Scenario: Player VS Lionheart+Lionheart+Wolf, Deathmatch Game, Extra AI Advantage. Instructions: Crossbows. Ballistae. Many. Stone and Iron once again. Basically same eco strategy as the previous mission. Kill Orange first to free up some farmland and space. Build up a deathball. Mission 40: The Dunes. Scenario: Player+Lionheart VS Pig+Pig+Pig+Pig, Normal Game, Player Advantage. Instructions: Oof. This is harder than it looks. Kill all the lions first. Chop wood. Ale eco once again (maybe skip on Bread for a while). Spam Archers and protect yourself first, Lionheart after. Try and eliminate Yellow Pig as he's on the flank and covers a much needed Stone and Iron reserve. Roll over the other three Pigs afterwards.
Slightly above average difficulty: you dig a moat from the stone deposit to the castle and to the left edge of the map, you put a warehouse near the hill climb, behind our castle, a couple of fire ballistas, so that the moat would not be buried and the tower covered with a castle, the castle is indestructible and catapult shells will go nowhere, crossbowmen for all the money and then the classics)
Literally just beat this mission yesterday, and stumbled on this channel today. I did it in two tries. First try the catapults mangled my tower walls, so on my second try what I did was make my walls sit flush against the south and west sides of my keep. (assuming the fire pit is south) Then, I put a round tower on the southwest corner, filled it with 20 crossbows, 5 shields, and a ballista. As I got more money, I put in more crossbows, but I started with 20. I then enclosed my keep with low walls, enclosed the nearby stone quarry with low walls (separately), and built up my economy. Richard started targeting the stone quarry instead of my main keep, and once walls were down the caliphs would send slaves to burn buildings. I ended up losing all 3 quarries (you can easily fit 3 of them in there) so I had to kill his units, rebuild the walls, and place a second tower just west of the new enclosure. Again, I filled it with crossbows, shields, and a ballista. My error can be avoided by placing the tower with crossbows earlier than I did. At this point, the game became brain dead to win. My tower near the stone quarry enclosure handled basically any attack from richard, my tower near my keep took care of any attacks from the caliphs, and my economy was STRONG due to me farming and making beer to support 90 population, probably could have supported more with ease. I added extra towers, a moat, then trained an offensive force and took down the caliphs and the lionheart. Altogether a simple mission.
Tbh I dont consider this mission as an extremely difficult one. Once I found out at what distance I have to place my square towers from the river in order to force Richard's catapults to totally climb down the mountain they have become very vulnerable to my ballistas. And from that point I could easily build up my defence and economy. Very fun mission and great video!
Same. I also didn't even move my stockpile, just built my towers barely out of range of Caliphs towers. Also, recruiting even just 5 macemen to deal with Richard's catapults is the best strategy, since when attacking, he builds the catapults first and then sends in the rest of his troops.
This mission took me many tries and several hours. It was long time ago but I remember doing it by lowering the game speed, buying 35 mace men and then rushing caliph within the first 2 minutes. The gold you get from killing him this early covers the cost of mace men. After that I proceeded to build my economy and defense and do it my way. It wasn't easy at all. The effort was always rewarding in this game.
If you can not control all of tower balistae and need some time for units/economy Use the shield icon on the unit of your tower balistae. I found that is a good auto targeting option that balistae use to focus engies and their constructs.
When you have marked your units you can press Ctrl + Number , to save a shortcut for them. Later, when you click those numbers your units will be automatilcy marked. I like marking a balistas, so I can attack catapults faster. This really improves the quality of fighting
I literally just finished this mission and sign onto CZcams and this is in my recommended list lol This really was the most infuriating mission so far. I basically did a much more painful version of what you recommended, surviving off of ale and a bit of bread and stacking as many crossbowmen and ballistas as I could on my towers, then pushing in with crossbowmen, horse archers, and mobile shields and a few assassins to siege each enemy lord. The first half of the game was incredibly painful trying to hold off all the catapults and enemy fire ballistas since as you mention the tower ballistas arent smart enough to just target enemy siege units. While I saw this video an hour too late to help me, it makes me feel a little better since I was questioning why this random mission felt so rough lol glad its not just me
Currently at mission 48 , 41 was hardest to date for sure. Didnt replace stockpile but yeah answer definitely is tower balistas manually destroying Richard ''fight fair'' Lionhard's catapults.
I played Crusader since i was a kid when this game came out. I have struggled with MANY missions, but for some reason not with that one. If you know what you are doing in the first 2-3 Minutes of the game, it is absolutely manageble. I did rush the same units immediately, but placing towers in the direction of Caliph, with mangoels on top, fcking him up completely. In the meantime, using the european lord, i used my archers and spearmen and some slaves do dig moat so i cant get overwhelmed that easy. The hardest Mission by far is IMO "Misty River", which i still struggle today without placing woodcutter huts in front of lionhearts gate.
Thank you my bro, finally I beat this worst mission after spend 2 hours. Little bit tips from me. You can counter catapult easier with tower balista if you have 3 or more. But since the enemy also use mangonel, I also build 3 mangonel in side of my castle to counter them. Otherwise (even it fire balistas) maybe harder because blue caliph archers is spreading out in front of your castle. Also this is maybe sounds weird, but slow-downing your game speed to 20 at early game will give you a lot of benefits.
Interesting, I never had an issue with this one....I used some patrols of horse archers to deal with the catapults and randomly spaced towers for the armored units. Also kept a few fire ballistas at the base of each tower for kicks
I invested all starting money to wood, then built homes for 100+ people, made 6 quaries + 12 mules, 5 iron mines, 2 cow ferms, 2 hops and 3 bread with one mill and 8 bakkery and 6 crossbow prod and 5 tanners. Then enclosed with two ballista towers. And used gold flow from stone, iron and +8 taxes to complete three highest tower against Chalifs and three more big ballistas. And got enough gold to siege all of them with siege towers, macemen and crossbows using their own towers. It was really fun.
You should do a video on the amount of time it takes for 1 of each unit to destroy a wall segment. You could probably do them all at once on one map, make a tournament.
Pro gamer move: Block entrance gates with oxe tether once AI lords enclose their keep and put them on sleep. Voila no more attacks and they will be destroyed economically as their workers will not reach to resources.
I retried this mission. I used mace man to rush Lionheart. Lower the speed to 20. Make as much Maceman as you can and use good fear factor to get 25 % bonus. Send 10 to destroy lionheart's barrack while the remaining macemen that are slightly behind are sent to target the lord. i killed lionheart and i got 9k gold. It might take some trials. Be sure to not start building some stone quarries in the mean time as you will be bombarded by catapults and you will need stones to repair your towers. Once lionheart is dead, the game become more manageable. I built 2 towers and placed mangonel to destroy Caliph (blue). I create two trebuchets to target his mercenary post. I built another tower to counter the green caliph..what remaining is to defend yourself against the green caliph. Tips Always watch out for the slaves, they will target your stone quarries.
Great video, Jeff! But the real answer is just rush lionheart with maceman and collect all that sweet gold from him. From there it's just you vs 2 caliphs from the same direction, no biggie.
I did it a second try, just build one big square tower between caliph and your keep, but far enough to not get shot from his turrets, fill it with crossbowman, build a second in the middle of the ground between quarry, and you keep stopping lionheart forces. From there that was easy for me, just keep an eye for slaves and its good. As for ballistas and enemy siege engines, group them with a hotkey and select/target manually as a group, not each one by one
Kinda remind me of "the mother of all Wars" in which you should keep defending yourself for a long time and the 3 Richards try always to destroy your towers
its just easier if you build a watchtower at the back area and put your king in it and the destroy the stairs, and do that for each tower you put unit on them, and no single mele unit will attack you. I do that in every mission.
I migrated to the hill in the very start built my economy there and the AI had a hard time to understand how to attack that point. Over time I took back control of my keep and could push from there with a powerful economy powered by full dread. ;)
Picked a simillar strategy had to restart tons of times, but i suucced P.S. I raged on the mission so much i build like 150ish catapults and just demolished Richys whole castle till only the Keep was left standing
I tried to play the mission properly, 2 round towers on the hill where you placed your market, adding archers and crossbows as time goes by+ ballistas, and dig moats right beside the quarry, wall two angles of the keep to stop your peasants from getting spawn camped and keep replacing the walls
Come on, the thumbnails are alright, Jeff 🙂 For me this mission wasnt really hard, coz I just rushed Lionheart lol :-P Wouldnt have patience to do otherwise
Thats one way to do it. but so many towers are not really necessary. You just need to keep selecting balistas and targeting catapults exactly, otherwise you are done quickly. There is one mission near the end where you are co-oping with 2 others agains like 5 opponents, and your "friends" gets beaten really quickly and after that you become alone against all. Only way to win agains catapuls when you are defending agains multiple enemy is by selecting balistas and destroying them from far range, otherwise not really possible. yeah you could use assassins is some way or another, but tjat does not work all the time.
I killed Richard at the very begging with Mace men, and then everything was okay. I sent 30 bowmen up the hill to defend the slaves, where a lot of stone and food I was getting from Richard's base. this way I passed the mission.
I think mission 42 is pretty difficult of you dont plan on rushing Richard. Other than that, i think 48,49, and 50 are pretty challenging but not as difficult as 41 and 33
I didn't mean to trash talk them! I meant you're supposed to play as a mountain dweller for a while and you'll eventually beat them! One of my alts on dragonflight is actually highmountain tauren, and I'm looking forward to play it!
@@Jefflenious i know I was joking, honestly I was surprised you referenced to WoW and connected it to SHC, 2 games I love but don't play often, especially WoW nowadays. :)

Using an assassin rush at least once in every mission is how I beat the Trails, especially the later levels to give myself some breathing room and cash to work with. Edit: I mainly went for cav archer spam and using them in waves back and forth to whittle down the AI for a final assassin strike was my go to strat for nearly all missions. Why farm bread if you can spam apple farms in the back? WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper and more population efficient if the granary stand´s in the middle of the farms if seasoned correctly, bread is almost a waste of resources this mission (at least in the early game, lategame it´s ok)
I consider my self a very strong veteran player as I beat the game without much strategies and use of shields. I have quick reactions, great targeting but my superiority is economy economy economy. I love maxing our everything and making a sim city. On this mission I kept two of the bots alive and ended up farming to 1 million gold before I killed them. Great memories from this game. Wish I could challenge people to play with as my friends are bad at this game
the first time i played this game. It was with my brother and at that time we did not know about shields. We played the whole game without using shields and understanding fear factors and how to use tax and all. Just to say that it took us 1 week of trials to complete the big one.
@@Emperor_Atlantis you put one non-military unit next to enemy's castle and this is not easily destroyed but gives you easy win. This sounds obviously like glitch/bug.
@@tastybekonn no the woodcutter trick works different: -buildings cannot be placed ajacent to enemy buildings EXEPT for the woodcutters hut. Place it in front of the gatehouse (only works with non moat castles and castles that place no buildings next to the gatehouse outside). The woodcutter now blocks the entrance. The AI will sell everything outside the castle because units cannot move there (just like when you siege them). But then it makes the decision to place new buildings because the gate is open. It keeps selling and buying building materials untill it's broke.

The only difference I did, was using the mounted archers to kill the engineers before they build something. Even 5 MA can make it much easier 😀
how many people does one Inn cover? You know what I mean, like 1 inn for 30 people or how is the ratio?
Yeah it's exactly 1 inn per 30 population! For example 5 inns can cover 150 population with enough ale!
at last!

Oh this cancer mission:D
This mission is not Hard. Just kill lionheart with macemen and then bully caliph with 4 mangonel and crossbowmens with shield on the top of towers
I just hate this fkn mission. Hate, ragequit, gg, alt f4.
I also hate mission Salladin alone. Know how to get through, but microcontrol...
⚔️Put woodcutter hut in front of their gatehouses💀💀💀. You will thank me later. One of the easyest missions in the trail
i think dat is cheating although is a trick. we want get the joy right?
if this is "one of the easiest missions" why u need to use glitches and bugs?
@@tastybekonn its not a bug. It is a trick. But spamming shields is s trick too in my opinion so ill leave it there
@@Emperor_Atlantis you put one non-military unit next to enemy's castle and this is not easily destroyed but gives you easy win. This sounds obviously like glitch/bug.
@@tastybekonn no the woodcutter trick works different:
-buildings cannot be placed ajacent to enemy buildings EXEPT for the woodcutters hut.
Nope your method is too hard and very difficult to understand 😢
Well then either building block them or maceman rush the nearest Caliph! This is probably the hardest and most chaotic mission so expect a rough time!
Worst mission of all
