The whole gimmick about Vib-Ribbon is that you could use any music cd and pop it in your Playstation. The obstacles in the game are then made out of the beats of the music that you had inserted into your PS keeping the experience fresh all the time.

@@zubazub66 yeah kinda surprised this wasn’t mentioned in the video considering that was the main feature of Vib-Ribbon. Ace of Spades by Motorhead would make a great candidate for the toughest level 😂
I didn't know of any other game that used that besides monster rancher. I had so much fun seeing what monsters different music made.
I was baffled that none of this was mentioned in the video, it was the whole point of the game!

Yeah like Star Gladiator, which I only heard of thanks to Capcom acknowledging it's existence and putting in content in the crossover RPG Project X Zone 2.

Everyone I try to get to play Evil Zone with me hated it. It's still one of my favorites.
I still play that game with the xstation on my 5501. Disk split in half a few years ago from one tiny crack. This is why we have backups Sony!

When I was a kid and got my Playstation for Christmas, the first games I got were Star Gladiator and Motor Toon Grand Prix (totally random picks by my mother, I'm sure). I loved those games but over the years never met anyone who had played them or heard anyone talk about them. I started to think "maybe I just liked them because I was a dumb kid and they were the games I had, so I had to like them". But I've grown to realize they really are just criminally underrated, and your including them on this list validates that!
Yea. There weren't too many of us that had Star Gladiator. Loved the game and the soundtrack. Used to pop out in my CD player all the time
I love Evil Zone and Dragon Valor. "One" was a great action game back in the day as well

One was great but hard as hell too.
Ones only problem imo is the first level. It's just not a good opening level. It's cool, but if the game opened with the second level it would have pulled in more people, the rest of the game is awesome.
You didn't mention Vib Ribbon's best feature - the fact that it generates a stage based on the music cd you input for it. Great video as always!
It wasn't just the best feature, it was THE feature. The fact that they didn't mention it makes me think they didn't even play the games and just filled up a top 10 from internet articles.
Motor Toon Grand Prix will always be a part of me.

The game i love and i've never seen in any ps1 video is "Ghost In The Shell". It's a great action game with awesome FMV's and the best techno soundtrack.

Been dying for a new rival schools. That and Destrega.
It's worth adding that music is an important element to Vib Ribbon; the rhythm of the music is an important cue for hitting the buttons at the correct time. Also the the game is infinitely re-playable thanks to the fact that you can generate new levels simply by putting a music CD of your choice into the PS; you get as many new levels as there are tracks on the CD (all of differing difficulty)! Kind of like the Bar Code Battler of music. I love this game (try playing it to some free jazz for an extra challenge).
So glad to see you put Rival Schools on here. I owned that game back when it first launched & me & my friends absolutely loved it!

I've never seen ONE before now, but it really reminds me of Apocalypse, the game engine and game play look identical. Another great game...
Literally, I was looking for this game for YEARS from my childhood but could only remember vague details. Today I finally found it, and will be playing it
One reminds me of Assault on the Ps1 and obviously Apocalypse starring Bruce Willis. Assault is very cool, allows 2 player coop like contra games
Funny I actually played Apocalypse a bit last year, almost beat it. Very fun little Arcade Shooter by the team that would later make Spider-Man 2000 and Tony Hawk's Pro-Skater.

Evil Zone! That was literally one of the first games I had on PS1. Loved it,. Simple but Fun.

You can disable the cars’ ugly deformity when turning in the options menu. It improves substantially the gameplay. I love your videos by the way.
Great vid! Just a suggestion, if you're going to run the games in hi-res then you may as well use an emulator like Duckstation with PGXP enabled to get rid of texture warping and polygon jitter. It's pretty sublime to see PS1 games in such great quality, so if you're not gonna go the authentic route then may as well go all the way!
Nice selection of games, another game that is also underrated is Omega Boost one of my favorite games back in the day. The shire rush, game play and graphics are fantastic.

Rival Schools is awesome, it even has minigames where you can the sports of the characters. Quality game!

2 of my favorite games on PS1 are Crime Killer and Pinobee. Im sure they'll eventually be on future episodes.
Funny I actually picked up Crime Killer a while back, cause I was unfamiliar with it and the fact it's a Car Combat ish game, but with Cops sounded awesome, so yeah I'm looking forward to dusting off the PS1 I have to eventually playing that and the Dozens of other PS1 game's I acquired over the years. XD

I was lucky to own Rival School. That game has so much replayability with unlockables and minigames.
Yeah that game is awesome and it's a shame that game didn't get the love and fan fare that Tekken or Street Fighter got, maybe someday Capcom will bring it back, even a port for modern systems would be nice, at least one's that don't feel like crap...
You can swap the Vib Ribbon disc with your own music cd and use your own music in the game.
Rival School was the only one I knew about, despite having a pretty large PS1 collection back in the day (thanks to tons of bargain hunting when the PS2 took over the market).
Man i SO would've loved to know these games when i was i kid!

Star Gladiator was my first T rated game as a kid. When I saw it on the shelf at my local game store, I had to pick it up. That, and a copy of Brave Fencer Musashi.
Raiden DX was my favorite. Spend good amount of time playing it

Managed to snag 'Samurai Shodown: Warrior's Rage' recently. Plays great.
Runabout or Felony 11-79 is a criminally underrated game, only three tracks but the driving handling in that game felt ahead of the time and could even rival to the likings of car handling in games like GTA V, which is very rare to even no other games for driving games from the PS1 era.

Future Cop L.A.P.D. - for me it's 9/10. Story is really cool where multiplayer (even vs bot) is extremely enjoyable.
Silhouette Mirage is to the PS1 what Mischief Makers is to the N64.
Here I was, a cynic, thinking "Pffft, another list telling me about Brave Fencer Musashi, Tomba, etc." I sir, stand corrected; I didn't know about the existence of most of these games, and I definitely spent 1996-2001 fervently playing my PSX. Great job!
May I finish with a slight recommendation? In the future, these list videos become easier to navigate if the video is timestamped. Other than that, I think you've plenty of well-deserved growth coming your way!

Dragon Valor... Yeah i remember it, i never completed it as i was stuck in ancient ruins. If i remember correctly it was michael. First level in his scenario was Zomas estate.

Vanguard Bandits deserves a shout. Actually of a lot of JRPG's do, Grandia, Jade Cocoon, Suikoden etc.
I actually owned Star Gladiator strangely enough. Picked it up back in the 90s because it was dirt cheap. I agree, it is underrated.

Evil Zone is such a weird game. I really enjoyed it despite how janky some of the presentation was. It reminds me a lot of Tech Romancer in its gameplay and the way it presents its story like episodes of an anime.
Motor Toon Racing Grand Prix was probably my all time favorite ps1 game, tied with Twisted Metal 4.

Threads of Fate/Dewprism is another underrated game.
Great video but I have to say you missed one. Perhaps the most unknown, underrated ps1 game of all time. Destrega! I’ve never known anyone who doesn’t just know it from the demo haha
