ABC's of great Bank fishing for big bass

- I take you down to the Everglades and some big bass while bank fishing! The almighty senko is still the king lure but the new buzz frog can light them up as well! Heavy tackle is in order for the big fish are often in the thick weeds or across the canal where you can't get to them if they are hung up!
How to catch bigger bass from the bank, step 1- be in the Everglades step 2- know Gary Yamamoto personally... love you Roland long time fan here since I was a little boy just kidding around
Step 3- get permission to fish somewhere public access isn't allowed so all the fish are virgin... he's a great angler and obviously knows what he's doing, but a LOT of his videos catching big bass from the bank are on private / restricted waters... can't say it doesn't help

my grandpa was a fisherman also but I wasn't at a good age to learn from him when he was still here, This channel has taught me so much skills I know papa would approve of. Roland is kind of like all of our honorary fishermen grandfathers

Roland catches 8lb bass with a bag of worms in his pocket and doesn't have 800 lures in a huge tackle box like the rest of us. He may be on to something.....
It's pretty simple...he uses bait that WORKS! All of these companies are coming out with fancy new baits that have 18 spinners and obnoxious colors that may catch a couple of fish, but at the end of the day the Senko WILL catch fish. Stick to the basics and just have fun!
@@smittysmith7281 yeah senkos work tried and true but if you throw different baits you'll find what they really want and catch more. They dont always want a worm
Edit: this is for fishing pressured water. If you fish water nobody has access to you can throw anything and those fish will eat
@@rickybobby9885 I respect your response but I'm not saying he only uses a worm. I'm saying that he never moves away from less than a handful of well known, everyday use baits and catches good fish. He's a pro but sticks to the basics. I also agree with your response on pressured waters/rarely fished areas. When I see people I know catch giants in private bonds, I don't even look twice because those fish aren't difficult to catch. They think it's a trophy but it doesn't take much skill to catch a fish in those conditions.

Roland thank you for sharing how to bank fish. There are many of our youth that don't have access to a boat. This is a perfect example of you don't need a boat to enjoy fishing. Teaching the next generation how to fish...🎣🎣🎣

I am truly happy I come cross your video i just started bank fishing. Around in the neighborhood quit a few Big ponds but if it wasn't for the understanding of. Seeing how you catch em theres probably alot of peaple that aint get the chance to understand the process of knowing the three basic ways of bass fishing every time iv ever felt that little snug on my pole i aint know what to expect but each vidoe iv watch. Shows me the same aggressive action when they get any change in the momentum or flow of the seko im fixing to line my reel with some heavy line and find me some real seko worms and bullet weights i hope the out come is different from the past times iv tried but im sure i got it now ..cant wait for the rush that comes from catching them ...enjoyed every min of this video ill leave a picture of the first. 3 i catch ik there. 5 .6. Pound bass an one of them for sure but now i got it figured out I knew somthing I was doing wasn't right

Here in Chicago, we got the Cook County Forest Preserves. Heavily pressured. Guys get excited with a 14” bass. Pitiful. Guys catch and release Carp here. They get excited with an 8 lb carp.
Keys to 8,9 lb bass, 1. go to Florida 2. Go to somebody’s Private Lake. In Chicago’s 6 collar counties, we got 7-9 million people.....
Find a private lake..... and then use a Senco.....

I had to stop the video and back it up and listen and the back it up again and listen to make sure I really heard what I thought I did. You said you were 'not' fishing a green pumpkin senko but instead a different color. I couldn't believe it. Roland Martin fishing a color other than green pumpkin. Wow the world really is messed up this year. Lol

I love bank fishing! It brings back memories of fishing in your youth once you get older. I like a finesse baitcaster with 20 to 30 lbs braid for precise casting. I use a wooden dowel (file handle) and wrap the line 8 times to pull out snags without packing grooves in the spool. A shorter rod and/or crouching helps when casting under tree cover. I also use a small size 1 VMC Touch-Lok 68 lbs rated snap for just about everything. Purists won't like it, but a snap let's you change lures in seconds when fishing with only one combo. A one shoulder slingbag is better than a backpack cuz you can swing it forward for access without taking it off. Cargo pants are good for keeping your most common single hook lures at hand.

I wish I could bank fish where I am from, but sadly all areas where bank fishing is allowed tends to be over fished and never catch anything. Glad to see that some people can enjoy this sport from the bank and don't have to spend alot on a small boat.

Mr. Roland Martin has 2 rods and few Senko worms in the pocket catching 8 pounders for breakfast! I'll be damn! My planned tackle box is a pack of Senko 297 worms and maybe a frog with trimmed legs maybe + 1 dark jig:-))

I would be afraid of the pythons and gators being on shore in the glades! I love how you have what you need in your pocket instead of a dragging a tackle bag/box out there...👍...buzz frog action...gator hit? And a bass? Ease along...I’ve tried telling my fishing partners to step quietly...nobody listens to me..what a beauty off the buzz-frog! My sincere apologies on using braid...I’m strictly mono...keep reel’n’em in!! BABAAM!!

Yes, they are a nice rod I have the 7’ matched with my Penn 3 3000 reel don’t use 50lb I use 30lb braid great combination. 👍🏼

Roland I've been watching you and Bill Dance since I was a kid. You still got the energy and haven't aged a bit. I've been getting back into fishing but I've been skunked the last 2 weekends in a row here at Lake Chapman in Athens GA. I've tried spinners, rubber worms, rubber fish, live worms, top fishing, bottom fishing all off the banks and shores without a single bite. Early morning, mid day to late afternoon. Any tips you can give me?
I ain’t no pro but I been fishing bass for most my life try to target shady spots in that summer heat hang overs under docks bottom of Lilly pads a bottom of pencil weeds etc etc skip it under them hard to get to spots or pitch them bushes all day long for some reason when I can’t catch any the ned rig never fails
My wife wants to buy me a new center console. I just have too much fun knee deep out or bank fishing. A lot of times I’ll use my kayak. I just like the challenge and thrill of it.

Excellent Roland tip about treaded lightly when near the bank, the fish can definitely sense heavy footsteps. I learned by watching herons stalk their prey.
There was a limestone quarry I used to fish here in Ohio, you had to pay a couple of bucks and the guy that ran it had a bait store right next to the water, it was like a 10 foot drop to the water. Every morning when he was getting ready to open he would skim the dead minnows off the tanks with a net and dump them into the water over the edge, the fish were there waiting for him, they seemed to know his footsteps. We tried fishing that spot and only seemed to scare the fish away as we approached it.

I’ve been the last two weekends throwing a Texas rig and the only thing I caught was logs and sticks.
Looks like both the lures paid off. The early big bass got the Senko worm.
Boy I did this Boca today and the bass was so big it broke the pole in half. These techniques really work.
Roland, I absolutely LOVE your channel! I used to be terrible at work fishing...hated it!! Never could really get anything done. But I watched you, paid attention to how you worked them....and listened to you. Now I absolutely love worm fishing!! We are going to orange beach in late July-early August. We wont have a boat with us. Do you have any recommendations on either a guided trip, or some really solid bank fishing spots?

I fish miles of canals in the holy lands, a-1, Saw Grass and Alligator Alley areas but I tell no one exactly where I fish!

How were you able to catch so much even though the sun was out?
I've always had trouble down here in Georgia fishing the bank on hot sunny days.
Hard for me to cast to shadows or shaded areas.

Grew up watching Rolland and ole Bill Dance but maybe it’s all the years catching up to you partner but 8lb was little generous for the first bass
i get excited to pull in a bass that weighs 1/2lb and roland is casually catching 8lb bass
when you bury the hook in the worm on a texas rig, does it have to be a little lose or all the way in the worm. I'm new to fishing and just worry that the bite wont always be enough to make the hook poke through the worm.
