      That's cool. Did the same thing. Went down the Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, Iron Maiden ride as well. The spandex crew got worn out on me after a couple years. There are some great tunes that still grab me when I hear them. I had a copy of Ride the Lightning that belonged to a radio station in San Fransico before the album came out. My friend gave it to me. I've lost true passion for most of the music (spandex crew) from then. You are right about the final mixdown on this EP. It sounds heavier, definitely better then the polished albums that followed. Oh ya. I have been a musician since I was 9 years old. You and I are 😮 54. I was born in 1970. Age has changed my taste a bit. Don't get me wrong. I listen to alot of heavy music. More on the rock / blues spot. I play a bunch of stringed instruments like the guitar, bass, mandolin, piano etc. Short semi pro career but I mostly enjoy writing my own stuff still and jammin' with whoever is on my Playlist. I hope you discover tonnes more music on the utube. If you don't have it, get the premium. It's worth it. Peace, and ROCK ON my friend

      Too bad they didn’t stay true to their true sound. I like the first album, but if it had the same raw production as this EP, it would have been that much better. They wound up with each successive album just getting slicker and more polished, to the point where they just started sounding like one big Pepsi commercial by the late 80’s. The (over)production overshadowed the music itself. If only they would have kept it raw like this, but then again it was the 80’s. That’s just how it went back then.

    • @play4u67
      @play4u67 Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@Shikta-poobah67 I couldn't agree more with you there!! In my own opinion, Robbin was their backbone, phenomenal song writer, vocalist, guitarist for sure and when they let him go, the band went down big time. Then Robbin passed and now, to me, they're only as good as a backyard party band for hire. I loved this album...the rawness to it just awesome!! They should've stayed to their own sound and not let other influences take that away from them!! I completely agree with you!!!

      @@play4u67 Yeah, from all I’ve heard over the years, Robbin really was the heart and soul of RATT. Without him they just didn’t have that “thing” that made them click in the early days. He was obviously essential to what they were doing. Definitely left us too soon. May he rest in power.

      Robbin was the easiest one of them to work with. He was, by all accounts, an easy going and really super nice guy to be around. This EP was pretty great. I got a brand new promotional copy of it in ‘83 when I was growing up in Houston . Time Coast Records. It was hot off the presses and very few people back then in Texas had even heard of RATT yet. The only reason I found out about them was because I knew this girl in HS whose dad was some record company executive, and he was always getting stacks of promos sent to him, which he would sometimes give to her. She decided for whatever reason that I should have this. I’m glad she did. Blasted it constantly back then.
    So, there were a few of us outside of California who knew about RATT and about this EP in those early days before Round And Round came out. Unfortunately I no longer have my record. Lost it in a house fire in 2003, along with a couple thousand other records.

    I wore this cassette out back in the day. Wish that I would've been able to save it. Some of the old Ratt music is hard to find, and better yet put together like this CZcams upload. Brings back memories.

    There were at least two versions of this EP.
    It was around the time of this EP that Warren DeMartini reportedly briefly filled in for George Lynch in Dokken.

      It was gifted to me. I knew fuck all about RATT at the time. It was at least a year before Round And Round came out and made them big, plus I wasn’t living in Southern California so I hadn’t heard anything about them on a local level. All I knew was that I liked the album cover graphics, and then when I listened to it I really liked the rawness and Stephen Pearcy’s raspy vocals. Plus the cover (Walkin’ The Dog) was familiar. Kinda like that first Motley Crue album, it had this stripped down, rough around the edges sound quality that I loved, and was used to, being heavily into punk. I never once thought this was punk. It’s metal all the way… but the rawness of it was something I could definitely appreciate.

    this is what got my attention when it came to Ratt. for me, this is the best Ratt. raw and under produced.

    • @Shikta-poobah67
      @Shikta-poobah67 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Or just not overproduced, like all their later albums. Out Of The Cellar is a great album, but after that it just got *WAY* too slick and polished (for my taste). That was a big problem with a lot of 80’s metal. I liked my metal raw, heavy, and dirty, and as the 80’s wore on that kind of production got a lot more scarce.
