- Blake's emotions are all over the place during this 35 plus mile bike and hike extravaganza in Escalante National Monument Utah. On top of that Blake takes an unintentional swim, fully clothed, in some very cold water.
Music: godrocket / god-rocket
Things I'd rather be doing as I secretly watch this from my cubicle on a wednesday afternoon.
Hey,
You should try to monetize your videos. Y'all deserve to be compensated for providing us with such great videos! Thanks for uploading another one, and I look forward to your next adventure!
“There’s always cool things to see, even if you think you’ve seen everything.“
I love that! I noticed you put the same audio in your channel trailer too - it’s perfect! I always feel that when I get out and explore nature. If nothing else came from the video or even the trip, that’s a gem right there.
I can’t believe how many of MA videos I’ve watched and still many more to go. My favorite channel on YT. I live near you guys and love all the new spots you have shared.
Keep the good times rollin! Love your stuff.
Dope video! Love the content can’t wait for more!
Love Death Hollow. I did the full death hollow, which was a four day trip for us, the upper section was very challenging. Lower Death Hollow is quite beautiful. Your channel is great. Thanks! We did it in the spring and the upper section had massive water and we were quite happy for the full wetsuits we had....still a little chilly as I recall. Exiting Escalante river canyon was a tricky business too, especially with those multi-day packs.
Killer vid as always! Love how you got footage of the blizz falling into the water haha! Keep the vids coming!
Great video. I love that canyon in the summer because of the swimming.
I was very excited to see another video! Keep up the good work!
That's no slouch ride! I drove that section last April when we were on our tour of the Mighty Five. Thank you for reminding me how beautiful your part of the country is. Next trip to Utah I hope to make Escalante my home base for some awesome hiking.
Awesome as always.
Danny, I really enjoyed the video. I watched you guys back on the day on 100 Miles to Nowhere, and News AF is my jam. I also used to live in Provo (I don't know if you're very into climbing, but I did the first ascent of the sport route up the face of Squaw Peak) and am similarly enamored with crazy outdoor adventures, though I'm not quite as hardcore as you. Also, I hate running. Anyway, keep up the awesome videos and adventures.
Another video!!! Love it
SARTopo! Love that website. Nice videos, might have to give this hike a try some day.
Love your guys videos
Great video, as always!
And yes, GPS devices don’t work well in canyons, because there are too many signal reflections on the canyon walls, that hinder location calculations. 👍
I love your whole bike shuttle mentality. As a mostly solo hiker I've been thinking about doing this to extricate myself from the many badass shuttle hikes in southern UT.
The hardest part about the bike shuttle is trying to get others on board with the idea.
We were just in that area and had no idea! But Boulder has a great little Cafe with some of the best sandwiches in the county! God bless Utah 🙏 we have more gems than we care to share. Get out and see the state ya'll! 3 -4 hours to heaven i will take it 🙏 with open arms. Aloha from the 801
Thanks much. I have always wanted to know what the bottom of Escalante canyon was like.
Good advertisement for Watershed bags
You guys Rock, sorry to hear it was bad at the end....Hope you got some good Mexican food and not gas station food..👍🏽👣👣👣👣👣🏔 keep the vids coming 🏕🏔
Sweet shed!
Always a good time seeing your adventures. Tell Blake he needs a dry bag. You can also pick up a used dr650 dual sport motorcycle for about $1000. You could buy close to 10 for the average price of today’s bicycles.
How to have a bad time in Death Hollow:
1. Go when it is freaking cold, when the swimming holes are uninviting and nothing but grasses have emerged from dormancy. Especially avoid wildflowers and new or autumn leaves.
2. Don't linger, except to fly a drone or stage a GoPro sequence. Traverse the lower Hollow as quickly as possible; in a fraction of a day is best. Sunrises and sunsets are undramatic anyway. Nothing to see here, move along.
3. If you encounter water obstacles, don't protect your electronics. If they are ruined, it's the water's fault.
4. Don't research your exit plan, just trust GPS coordinates for your vehicle to get you out.
Considering all that, I think you maintained pretty good attitudes! Even the hardiest of us wants a burrito, bath, and bed now and then. And even at your ages I wouldn't have been able to travel so far under my own steam in a single day.
BTW when you reach the Escalante rim you should bear right (SW) over a slight rise and descend a broad slickrock bowl to cross the "Micro Death Hollow" stream course and then scramble up the slickrock escarpment to the truck. I've done it many times, including in the dark. But then, you see, I LIKE Death Hollow. ;-> (just ribbin' you.)
I've been trying to put my finger on what's so funny about selfie moments like 8:50. I think it's this image of some guy who's just putting an overly wholesome and ridiculously upbeat yet broken spin on endless suffering. A bit of a Buddy the Elf on a sucky day. Yeah.
Blake should be careful about hurting the canyon god's feelings. Oh, my. I love watching these knowing that you must have survived because there is a video to back that up. I don't EVER want to hear from Liz that you are missing or in danger...yet again.
On a mediocre covid binge. Great stuff. Even the second time.
Not sure why, but I like the ones where everything goes horribly wrong the best.
Imagine going to Escalante and evening having a thought of giving it two thumbs down.
Too poor for a motorcycle, but has access to helicopters
Can you fly drones in death hollow?
you guys should hit picacho del diablo in baja
Just found the channel. Love the content. Where you guys from?
Thanks. We're from Utah.
why no nylofume liner in the bag
What type of footwear (shoe/sock) do you guys utilize?
I like Darn Tough socks and Smartwool socks seem to be a hit with some of the others. My favorite trail running shoe is the HOKA Speedgoat 2.0 but they are strictly trail only. My favorite scramble shoe is the La Sportiva Mutant and Bushido. I really like the Salomon Sense Ride for running and off trail mixed days but the shoe tends to wear out quickly.
Which drone do you use and how do you carry it in your pack while running and make sure it doesn't get damaged?
I now use the Mavic Pro 2. I always put it in a gallon freezer zip lock bag and try to protect it with what I carry in my pack. I wrap my jackets and beanies around it but I always assume it's going to be destroyed by the end of the day.
@@MediocreAmateur That's awesome! Looks like it has worked for ya so far! Which Mavic 2? I've got the first Mavic Pro but I baby it...
Just realized you’re the guys from 100 Miles from Nowhere; good to find this channel for more of your content. Death Hollow has been on the list a while. Based on this video it’s moved up...once it gets warmer anyway.
Maybe do a little more research than us on the exit. Pretty sure we did it all wrong, as is our style.
"We're not sure if this is the way out of the canyon..." Not very reassuring words!
During this video, I got an ad for waterproof bags..... Sorry Blake.
Thing this could be backpacked? Do an overnight somewhere?
Watch this video to get some inspiration on hiking and overnight camping this area: czcams.com/video/DgGmZVKS3fs/video.html
Not could, SHOULD! There are some great camping alcoves if you are lucky enough to arrive at one early enough. And, weather permitting, do not use a tent. Sleeping alfresco in Death Hollow is rare pleasure! And if you happen to be a fisherman, the trout are abundant.
Take me with u
why didn't you show the Mexican meal?
I miss blake
Looks like you should plan ahead next time.
