Imgane Dokovic stepping out in the middle of Wimbledon to play Davis Cup ... Internationals should be played after the club season is over... This way you can finish the season by early May or even late April and you can have 2 months of int football if you want
Thing is... there are over half the globe where the season follows the calendar year (which makes much more sense btw), so yeah no way around it man. They already get the luxury that the main ones are played in the middle of the year between seasons in europe. Like the Asian ajd african cup, most countries there use the calendar year season so it makes sense the tournament be in january coz it's their preseason. Now if they have players abroad still it is their continent and their countries, deal with it. What I'm against is this pointless friendlies, there's very little space for then nowadays but still we have like 6 to 10 a year for some reason
This is a whole different scenario because tennis calendar is already set up.
Tell me when does a national team plays this matches BEFORE the tournament in the summer if not during the season.
You want England to show up to the Euros without having played a match?

One of the all time great strikers and a great manager too. Comes across as a very humble and decent man
Competitive international is one thing but friendly international is another I thought the nation cup was to get rid of friendlies... pointless
I think you all are missing the point its the fact that John Stones who hasn’t played much for City was starting 2 games in 4 days when he’s injury prone
Im upset Rice played the 90 mins in both games but atleast he’s not an injury prone player so you can accept that a bit
John Stones is different he is injury prone so you have to be extra cautious with him and the players Southgate mentioned Odegaard, Halaand, Van Dijk and Ake, these players aren’t injury prone so you can take a little more risk with them
Maybe part of the problem is the way friendly games are reffed, they let more tackles go unpunished by cards creating more chances of players getting injured.
I do not believe these Manchester City players (Stones, Walker, Silva, Dias, Ake, Akanji) have injury during the friendly international games. After a few days, you will see them at 100 percent as if they really had an injury and was planned by Pep Guardiola..
Watch them go 10 straight wins, steamrolling everyone

Who cares what club managers think , they don;t actually care about the players it's pure self interest. The players are of their country for their whole career, club teams come and go.If John Stones didn't feel right to play and didn't really want to play he would have declared himself unavailable, clearly he wanted to play so that should be end of it, players get injured all the time, players regularly miss international fixtures due to injuries picked up in club games, it is what it is.
The clubs are the ones who paid the players, friendlies are a waste of time.

The issue with international and club game debate of when players should rest is each country league, federation and national teams are only looking at themselves asking how to get more games for more money and it's just to many games
Southgate sucked up to EPL clubs & the captain. He waffled that Bellingham should play another 90min, like Real Madrid doesn't havea tough game against Atheletic Bilbao & then City. What a loser, this will be remembered.

Global game lol. You missing the point. It’s a friendly and Southgate job isn’t in danger after 2 bad friendly games. The point is to win the Euros and to have your best player in good shape at the time. If you know that Stones and Rice are starters for Arsenal and City you don’t play them in those friendly. Because you know they are going to play all the game in PL and in CL for their Club until the end of the season. If matchweek 37 big muscle injury for Rice and he forfeit the Euros Southgate fault.
Deschamps made several changes between the 2 friendly matches. He started Saliba just after criticizing publicly and we already know Saliba won’t be a starter at the euros.
@@simonoliver8576You can also get injured in a "mickey mouse" training game. Injuries are the occupational hazard of football. Always was is and will be
I think a manager actually takes pressure off himself by picking new players for friendly games like this. If he had picked konsa and branthwaite at center-back And Trafford in goal, it wouldn't have mattered much if we had lost the game because he could say I needed to have a look at these players and a friendly was the perfect time to do it. Everybody would have understood it was a experimental side and a non-competitive fixture.

England is a European country
It's the 115 Club, they'll all be magically fit come the weekend.
Where is the rant?
This is ignorance!!! Why should a club or international coach control who and when players should play???
2:04 - I'm going to disagree with Klinsmann on this. Ben White's ascent to near world class status is totally due to his performances at the club level. Same for William Saliba. Both players have been excluded from meaningful national team action by their respective managers. I understand that previously the prestige that came from playing international tournaments boosted the commercial value of players at he club level, but that was because the international level of play used to be the highest. It's hard to argue that any Nations League compares to Libertadores or the Champions League. The club level is where the highest quality of play is today, and thus, where players derive their highest value from.
Saliba and white both aren't on crazy wages. His point was that the most valuable amd highest paid players that clubs are worried about are often players who are also pivotal and marquee for the national team. Mbappe for example, had his value sky rocket for those world cup and euro performances which was good enough to offset the "he plays in ligue 1" debate. I don't think there has ever been a time where people have say the international game was the highest level of football. It'd be ridiculous to think that when teams only have a select few weeks to train together and work on tactics, with months apart. The fact is though that playing in the world cup is still the most prestigious and sought-after dream for most footballers and playing in friendlies is just part of that journey. Don't really get your point about Ben white and saliba. They are being exlcuded for reasons that don't have anything to due with their clubs. In salibas case he just doesn't fit Deschamps mold yet and we know about Ben white.
And of course, no one would ever consider going hard at an opposing international player who happens to be important for an opposing club. Or maybe just tell their international teammates, who don't play in the same league and maybe not in a crucial title race, to play hard against this opponent. No, that would never ever happen. After all, these are just friendlies. I'm not sure if getting yellow or red cards are even registered for friendlies. Hmmmm
Given the extensive injuries Liverpool have to deal with this season whilst broadly maintaining a push for silverware on 4 fronts NO MANAGER fan or player could have the front to blame injury on any aspect of their season going forwards
Coz PL is the most competitive compared to the other leagues. Other leagues are already wrapped up but PL is still a 3 horse race.
The PL has seen 1 team be champions in 5 of the last 6 seasons, the same to have won the past 3, going on 4.
Serie A has had 4 different winners in 4 years. La Liga has had 3 during the same period. Even the French League is more competitive on that front than the pl
