my dears, I encourage you to watch "Elizabeth's Clash with Queen Mother Over Education", HERE: czcams.com/video/IrwnzXVTIHY/video.html
At the end, when she looks at him and has tears in her eyes. . . Maybe he reminds her of her late husband and how nice it would be to be there with him.
One of my FAVORITE sub plots of the early series. A wonderful depiction
The encounter is the Queen Mother's purchase of the Castle of Mey in northern Scotland. Always worth a visit during open house season. !
He was probably thinking dam if only I knew, I could have charged her a fortune lol
It's quite sad when she tears up, knowing her secret's out. There were probably few times in her life where someone was relaxed and authentic with her, allowing them to form a true friendship, rather than seeing her for her title and role as the Queen Mother and acting with deference. As he realises who she is, she sees that disappearing, knowing she'll likely never find it again, and mourns it. Good moment!
"Uhh you realise this didn't actually happen, right???" You are allowed to analyse fiction :)
I think it's poignant that it's her, as she nearly refused to marry into the family because she didn't want the royal life.
Boy, that IS NOT the impression Lady Colin Campbell gives in her biography of the Queen Mother. She suggests Elizabeth Bowes Lyon was absolutely determined to get a prince, and Albert wasn't necessarily her first choice. @@MsJubjubbird
@@jamesdalton3082 that biography was widely disputed by other writers. Some people like to create drama. But she actually refused him a few times and he kept on hanging around pressing his suit. They actually did love her.
In 1952 the castle was known as BARROGILL CASTLE! The Castle, Gardens and Parkland (which extended for 30 Acres ) were renovated between 1953/1955!
The Queen Mother restored the Castle's original name changing BARROGILL CASTLE back to the CASTLE OF MEY!
The Queen Mother spent 3 weeks in August and around 10 days in October!
The Castle is on the Caithness North Coast of Scotland, approximately 6 miles from the West of John o'Groats!
Do you end all your sentences with exclamations!!!
In 1973 I was fortunate to drive past this castle. From what I could see the gardens did look impressive!
Beautiful location!!!!!!!
Isn't the land something like 5000 acres
A beach is a beach is a beach, truly beautiful
The exterior shot is Slains Castle in Cruden Bay, Aberdeenshire. It’s an eerie yet beautiful ruin on the coast.
Thought I recognised it, cheers.
If you ever make it to the north of Scotland, go and visit the Castle of Mey. It's beautiful. When I was there 12 years ago our guide had some stories to tell about HM Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
I’ve had the same experiance in rl. Back in 1999 here in Greenland Kangerlussuaq. Science hotel. I came in the living roon where 3 very very full bearded men were watching Flatliners. When I intered I greeted them in English. But they turneenout the be Danes. So our conversarion tuned to Danish. One of them was very friendly and qurious, asked about me and mu works. And was very hospitable and welcomming. We saw the film. And when it finished. I got up say my goodbye. And left. Just as soon as I exsited my coworker. Asked how was he. D’you know who that was? I replied. Who? Turned out the very friendly and qurious man was our Crown Prince Frederik. Who is now our King.
I had a similar experience once, caught an early morning flight with KLM and there was only myself and one other passenger (we were treated like royalty ironically), we were greeted by one of the pilots who was very hospitable and informed us he'd be flying us today and we had a bit of a chat, I remembered him because he had a bit of a resemblance to my dentist.
Few days later I see the guy in a photo on a news article - turns out he is the Dutch King who part-time flew commercial flights as a kind of hobby.
Additional information in these two villages (Caithness and John o'Groats) we have the possibility of watching a magnificent fantastic show of color and lights (Aurora Borealis)
I'm listening to Lady Colin Campbell's book on Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Elizabeth got a sympathetic edit in the Crown.
what do you mean? is she worse than portrayed according Lady C?
My Grandmother was a lady in waiting to her - she was a complete and total cow, with the stubbornness of a donkey.
@@alexanderlolamax5144 She;s protrayed as nicer than she was. She's a lot nastier and scheming then portrayed in the Crown.
With the help of others she successfully overthrew a King.
@@intorainbowzOGLady Macbeth did much the same but she was more hands on; people forget that most Royal families are descended from killers who owe their positions to the forceful displacement/disposal of rivals - Edward VIII was lucky he got to keep his life and his wife.
@@intorainbowzOG which king?
I'd buy a castle in northern Scotland if I had 100 pounds.
I don’t care what they say about her, I would’ve loved to have had tea with her and let her tell all. We could’ve talked about whatever she wanted to talk about, even if she wanted to vent steam because she did it with class.
My Mum had tea with with the Queen Mother. She said she was delightful company.
How wonderful! 😊@@propertiesspain1869
Shallow, badly educated, badly dressed and an insufferable snob, constantly pickled in alcohol.
Yea sure she was a rude person in reality from what people say, but she was one of my favorite secondary characters in the show
I can't imagine the Late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother ever being rude to anyone; there's an old adage "To be rude is to be weak" as it smacks of a loss of strength of self control.
@@Kian2002she was rude as in she was basically stuck up and had an ego to everyday people
@@jshipp5469 You knew her then, from years of observation?
@@Kian2002based around statements made by her staff in later years
Im honestly shocked from your comments, hahaha. Who knows how the real woman was, but i grew up to dislike the character in the series almost from the first episode. She was portrayed so rude, vindictive, pedant and in occasions, very stupid. I felt like she pretended to be a worrieng loving mother but it end up feeling more worried by her status and she wasthe main culprit of Charles unhappy and tortuous marriage with Diana. So for this and many other things i grew fond of calling her "Cookie", like the Windsors did 😂😂😂
I have no interest in the royal family. But Victoria Hamilton ............. what an amazing actor....
One of my favorite scenes. Hope he happened very similar to this.
Appears to be someone who loves the castle and wanted new owners to properly take care of and restore the place? He must have truly loved the old pile of stones, mixed with blood and sweat, toil troubles and triumphs!
I think they refer to that as quiet desperation.
I wish taxpayers give me money to buy property.😓
The Royal Family is worth Billions of ££. The Duchy's of Cornwall and Lancaster support the family. However, as of today, it costs each citizen in the UK about 77p per year to support the family. Cheap.
Not forgetting the army of sycophants and cap 'doffers ' like you that facilitate their ridiculous circus?
And yet the idea of retiring to Scotland was abandoned. She stayed in Windsor to bully and coerce her children and grandchildren. Margaret could have married happily and come to Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, Kenya, the West Indies? And lived in peace. Phillip might not have sent Charles to Gordonstoun School, to get him away from Granny.
Elizabeth II might have grown stronger, faster without her mother casting doubts on her abilities. After all her lack of experience and education were her Mother's choices.
The Crown is NOT a documentary. Margaret could have married happily if she was willing to give up the perks of being a member of the Royal Family. She was given the choice, she chose position over love. Lack of experience and education? They were home schooled, having some of the best tutors available, this was not that unusual amongst the aristocracy. The Queen was fluent in French & Doric, and spoke some German & Spanish. Philip, whose own childhood and adolescence was precarious flourished at Gordonstoun, he thought Charles would do the same however misguided that was.
It will cost millions to be habitable, and "in keeping with" the royal household.
How could the guy not recognize her?!??? 🤣🤣🤣
You do know The Crown is not always giving the truth
Selling for something under true value could be considered a bribe.
A bribe for someone with no legsl office or power? Pretty silly bribe
As is? One hundred quid? Wow.
It was in terrible shape and she spent a shit ton renovating and refurbishing it.
Like she needs to worry about money.
Royalty is very confusing. So they own so much that they get the rest for free…..
You know now why the US rebelled and threw off a king.
@ GK-up6xz
The BRF, like other royal families
accrued their money for centuries.
In most countries the royals were the
country's largest landowners. There
are Dukes in UK who own more land
on their estates than the BRF does
on their personal estates.
In UK: Windsor Great Park (and all of it's
buildings), Buckingham, Kensington, St.
James Palaces, Holyrood House (Scotland)
belong to the Crown, just like the crown jewels.
For the monarch to use but not own.
The monarch (Charles iii) outright owns
Balmoral Castle and its grounds, Clarence
House (London) and the Sandringham
Estate. He also owns his personal
residence that he had as Prince of Wales,
"Highgrove House" in Gloucester, UK .
I am not completely sure of the history of
Clarence House, but I think that it was
purchased (or given for use) to Elizabeth
and Prince Philip as a wedding present
from King George VI. (After all, Elizabeth
was the heir apparent/ Princess of Wales)
Later, after she became queen, her mother
(the Queen Mum) "downsized" to Clarence
House. Philip and Elizabeth had spent a
lot of money upgrading the mechanics
and restoring the building when they owned/
lived in it. They did not want to live in
Buckingham Palace. But the Prime Minister
(Churchill) and the Queen Mum insisted
that Elizabeth and Philip live in Buckingham
Palace.
Charles has talked about changing BP to
having only a very small royal apartment
(for use by the king when events are held)
and the king himself to reside in Clarence
House (to save money). Then turning over
BP to be used as offices and grace/favor
residences as well as a place for visiting
dignitaries.
Did she actually buy it? That's what I'd like to know.
Yeah, and she spent a lot of money refurbishing it. If I remember correctly, she ended up leaving it to Charles.
@@HookedOnSonics518 sort of, but not quite. The Queen Mother gave the property to the Castle of Mey Trust. Charles, Prince of Wales was president of the Trust.
@@OptimusWombat she left in trust so That charles don't have to pay inheritance tax.
@@krishnavyas313 do you have a reference to back that up? The Prince (now King) doesn't even use it as a residence. It's basically a tourist attraction.
@@OptimusWombat Charles used it many times and when he isn't there. They use it for tourism.
Queen mum left everything in trust so That the recipients don't have to pay inheritance tax.
It's common sense all rich people do that.
