Siren #17
This is a weekly test of Memphis, Tennessee's Tornado Siren System which is tested every Wednesday at 3:30 strictly under mostly clear skies. Because I took a break from uploading videos, I decided to make up for it and recorded a P-50. I was on break and gas was cheap; it would be dumb not to take the opportunity to record one. It was about a six hour drive, but it was definitely worth it. Without a doubt, this was definitely one of the loudest sirens I've ever heard and I was glad to finally be able to record one.
This siren is located along Sewanee Road by an elementary school in case anyone was wondering. Oh...and happy (late) New Years!
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

As of 2019 this siren has been refurbished and reinstalled on a new metal pole.
That's good to hear!
Certainly looks better than this on street view!
Isn’t it the one with half a horn
Nope the half horn one is on trinity road
@@Nirvoxide yep
Hey Cletus get up there and patch up those holes with duct tape I'm totally not going to turn it on
Hoosier Hell flex tape can fix it
okay np
Hoosier Hell you mean flex tape?
PUBG-Oğuz he did say flex tape
flex tape flex tape
I drive by this exact siren everyday and never heard it before. Now i know i don't wanna walk to work
Niff Airlines XD
The horror sounds of my childhood, now I'm fascinated by sirens
There
is a rumor that the P 50 is so big that a man 5 ft 4 can stand in it
Yeah, it's possible to stand inside if you're the right height. There's a pic floating around somewhere.
@@DSRX100 There is a video of a man inside one in an ACA demo tape
Well it is the biggest bucket.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
This is one of the loudest sirens in the world
Holy guacamole, the audio is tremendous! Excellent catch!
Sounds terrific, seems like the fiberglass has seen better days however... That's two P-50 recordings I got to watch today and you don't see these much anymore so thanks for recording it!
Holy crap! It's been three years! I still remember when I saw this video in my subscription feed. It only seems like a year at the most. Dang time flies......
Oh no! Its got hit by the fiberglass de-lamination disease!
It looks like it got into a fight with a 2001
More like a RM-130 Or a T-135 (flower inside one6
Ha this siren would dominate a federal signal yes I hate to say that because I prefer federal signal over ACA/ASC the P-50 and the alerter are the only 2 sirens I like out of all the sirens ACA/ASC has ever made
+SoundMaster 391 I like 2001 as your standard cheap package. Nothing special nothing bad.
SoundMaster 391 but I think it's funny making fun of the 2001 or almost any new siren.
SoundMaster 391 Well said!
i've been watching this guys vids 4 a long time & i still love this siren more then all the other 1's..
Awesome video! Awesome audio and catch Brandon! I wish I can go to Memphis, TN.
Wow, cosmetically that's in rough shape but it sounds great! Nice video.
I have never seen a P-50 rotate while it winds down. Great recording! Hope it gets fixed a little
The ASCs rotated during the wind down and in attack mode while the ACAs stopped
Wow pure awesomeness and wat a siren indeed loud I recon the next count could hear this siren
The P-50/T-135 is my favorite siren. It's so powerful and scary sounding.
I could not agree more because they are awesome
I love that wind up! Very beautiful siren!
It sure is! 😊
Nice video! I haven't seen this RM-135 in person. I'm still waiting for someone to catch the recently restored Trinity Pkwy P-50 on video.
This T-135 AC needs some love.
It was refurbished!
I've seen this siren before when I was going through Memphis
Wow lol pretty cool. There was another one in Hungerford Rd by the train station. Probably some others too I have whole list of the sirens in Memphis. Have you checked out the Mobil Directo when you were here?
Hey That's Where I Live. Man, That Tornado Siren Is One Of The Most Loudest and Largest Tornado in The United States of America. Not Only That, It's Better Than All The Federal Signal Sirens.
Sounds like a beautiful low brass hitting that Bb with a nice vibrato!
memphis i live here once again this siren freaked me out over a year now it has returned again SO LOUD WE CALL STORMS IN MEMPHIS TORNADOES!!
Brutal echo on windup! If this is in Chicago or in New York, this thing is a madness! I love ACA P-50.
Read the title. It's Memphis, TN.
@@kyleb06 Hence why I said "If this is in"
It’s insane how small the rust holes look but when it’s taken down the horn is big so a P-50 is approximately 2 - 4 meters bug just the horn so if it’s ever taken down that rust would be exactly 6.5 inches big.
sounds so good
i was visiting Memphis with a total of 200 students from Hamilton Canada is there a fire station with a thunderbolt siren on top near downtown
Great video! Powerful P-50!
was this the loudest siren u have encountered yet or what
That thing is very damaged, still raping ears.
That echo is unbelieveable.
May you do a video of Aca American signal Tempest-135/Aca Penetrator-50 That is not Damaged.
Brandon, Does the radio have something to do with it rotating while winding down?
Did you get any tones? Pretty sure they activate these through. ASC FSK.
When you heard this, you knew that shit was gonna go down.
Poor thing, could seriously use some loving to it's housing, but it sounds really healthy!
Also, this seems to be rotating a little bit faster than a Normal T-135/P-50, am I right?
Yes My T-135 I am getting rotates at 2RPM.
Sounds like T-135AC And Rotation Is Fast
Yeah.
No thats. Right. After all. Its a 24volt. Dc motor on the head rotator.
Is it still there? I've always wanted to record a p50!
Yes it is still there and refurbished!
Sounds healthy but looks like it has had some better days.
They actually switched it
Bakura98 it's still standing today
I see it every day
I got a question for you. I've asked several other siren channels and they haven't responded so I'm going to ask you. If it's ok.
1: what device or app do you use when tracking sirens and having times when they'll activate?
2: what camera do you use?
activation frequencies can be found online searching your area for the EMA... camera is listed in the description.... why do people always have to ask rather than search the information themselves... for most states... they're listed on the main state page.
@@BeezyKing99 The camera is not listed in the description.
This makes me miss Memphis
Guys, I just realized, most ACA sirens play Bb(B Flat) in bass clef. Get a trombone, baritone, or any instrument in Bb and play this side by side.
Was this siren moved from it's original location or did you film at a angle where no trees were in the way?
Are the Thunderbolts part of the city system?
CentralPASirens I believe so
CentralPASirens yes they are
How old is that p50?
The screen tho...
It barley even serves it purpose anymore lol
Do they still make these giant buckets
Nope, these have been discontinued.
What happend to the broken cone tho?
Beaten up by weather
me- you got holes in your horn! p-50- thats what she said
this is good for an alarm
I’ve seen a picture on google of someone actually standing inside this siren. Are they actually that massive?
Yes, they are quite large sirens.
Where is the chopper in the siren?
Kimq2006 The CZcamsr The third section in the back along with the 50hp motor
50hp why so much
go big or go home
Where do u live
One time I was in Memphis and heard the Mobil Directo from Subway. It was awsome!
Subway... Goodness God...
Is it still there (Mobil Directo)
Ben Riek yes
What school is at?
For some reason, the background with the wind down makes me feel sad for it
Memphis
Why u no fix siren?
Oh this one is just like the T-135 P-50 on Rib Mountain rotates wile winding down.
That's one holy bucket!
I didn’t know you record asc t135s
Also, when did Memphis switch three minutes for testing? They've done a one minute alert for years.
Hey I'm just as confused lol check out my video from yesterday and it ran for a good 1 to 2 minutes. I wish I had the time to go to other sirens but yesterday was a day that I happen to be in Memphis running an errand. Still well worth the 20 minute trip there. I'm hoping for the P-15 to be put back on top of the Fire station at Shelby Dr and Airways Blvd!
I saw that video. I've watched other Memphis videos before I recorded this P-50 too. I was only expecting a minute and a half activation at best. But hey, three minutes of hearing a P-50 was awesome, I can't exactly complain. My own town sometimes can't even test 30 seconds...per month. Maybe the emergency management forgot to send cancellation tones? I hope they put up that one Mobil Directo by the EMA too. That would be nice to hear!
I think all big cities should do that once a week all year round that's just me
there a hole in the right side of the siren
thats the longest siren test I've heard
Awesome!
Oh i like it!
it's netting wire front cover thing came off and has a hole on its left side
Cool siren over there but I like P-50's so this may be your first time
Can ACA P-50 doing Fast Wail!?
NO!!!!! I think..
I think it's rotating the wrong way because the last time I saw a P-50 go off, it was rotating clockwise not anti-clockwise
Reverse wired rotator
The windup tho
ShadowCuber34x It sounds like a 40t2v!
It's like a police sound but it's a p50 sound I love that siren
Its so run down!
So, does that mean it eats apples?
An apple a day keeps a T128 from replacing you!
Man they really need to maintain that thing better.
If I remember right, this one actually got refurbished not long after I recorded this.
@@DSRX100 well that's good to know.
Why does every p50 have holes in the horm
Originally designed in 1987 the p50. Outter reflector is. Fiberglass. Hot hot days mixxed with cold crisp winters and vibration , hail storms etc . Take its toll. 50 horse power motor cranks out 135 db. At 75 feet. Think how the siren head vibrates violately. Bird screen is broke too. The unit is aging
The echo of that wind down was terrifying 3:05
Yep
The new version of the old Chrysler siren. But it has a hole in the horn that needs fixed.
0:07 ACA Penetrator-50 (P-50) Activates
3:10 ACA Penetrator-50 Deactivates
3:24 ACA Penetrator-50 Growl
That P-50 is loud as heack!
P-50s are one of the loudest tornado sires
It sounds like a 40T2V when it starts up😂
Where is it EXATLY located?
You mean exactly
Fun fact if a P-50 roared after the wind down it is not a P-50 and instead it is an ASC-T-135 AC
Woah I just noticed that this specific P-50 winds down WAAAAAYYY faster than other P-50's. Just listen:
That's because it's a T-135, not a P-50.
Notice how it keeps rotating while it winds down. Only Tempests do that.
But other T-135's that I've heard don't wind down that fast. Probably bad bearings in this one.
The weight of the chopper and the configuration inside matters 1 billion times more than the bearings.
Bad bearings would make it suddenly drop pitch while winding down.
And if it runs regularly that shouldn't happen.
but the configuration inside and weight of chopper of this siren and any other ACA P-50 or T-135 AC is literally identical.
Most of it is, but there is a small difference with the clutch.
that echo my lord
Oh and was that at 3:30 when it sounded?
AfroSkeleton Yes it was
Are these still made by asc
No
oh
At the end, sounds like old plane is going to land
Where I used to live had these. (And then they were replaced with FS 2001’s. :/)
I saw a lot of tornado sirens in my area arlington city one of them is close to my house
P-50s. Also known as the Giants, they are one of the LOUDEST and Biggest sirens ever made, compared to the old tractor motor siren. (forgot it's name)
+Josiah “UberLucario” Eliason Chrysler, and also they are called "THE MONSTER" but yeah these are still huge!
yeah except its been beaten by the Chrysler Bell Victory siren by a long ways off one Victory siren can be heard up to 28 miles while only one of these cant be heard from that far away
+SixR this can be heard from 12 miles
WhammyP-50 actually its recommended at 5 miles
SixR yeah it is 9000 ft for 70db 18000 feet for 60 db and 36000 ft for 50db and 72000ft for 40 db and so on. 40 db is like an average whisper
This is why you never wanna mess with him he has battle marks to prove it he’s beat up and he still beat the people who did that to him so don’t mess with that man he’ll kill you
Now I've heard the term "rust bucket" before but come on lol 😜
Lol
it still works with a hole in it
The siren seems better days.
Beat up but is strong as could be!
Now its your 244th Like 😃😃😃😃
It's your 243rd like☺
I think it is by that pro shop store
This one sure has a quicker wind down
I can’t see the chopper It’s too dark in there
that a motor
Did somebody shot it with buckshot
they missed the deer
22megaton lol
Holy cow. That poor RM-135 looks like it got it's ass handed to it.
Lmao haha
Looks like she has some type of whole in the siding, still a beautiful siren though!
Oh my god that thing’s on its last leg but it’s really high in pitch. The ports are a little wobbly. You can here them. Poor siren
