In (Mexican) ES, the colloquial expressions "bajarle la regla/venirle la regla" are used. "Le ha bajado la regla en clase y se ha tenido que marchar" = "She got her period in class and had to (walk) leave. "Regla" also means "rule, ruler". A "straightedge" is also called "regla" but the proper name is "regla de borde recto". 😎

your class reminded me of a time when I was just starting to learn Spanish and living in Chile.
there was a knock on the door and when I opened it a woman I didn't know said to me: "Tengo calzones rotos". (torn panties)
My surprised response was to ask her why she was telling me this.
Only later did I learn that calzones rotos is a Chilean term for a form of deep-fried pastry which the woman was selling door-to-door.
This is hilarious. hahahahaaha

by the way, "calzones rotos" are some sort of sweet pastry here in Chile. And sometimes someone could knock on your doors selling them. Iam not quite sure, but Ithink the name comes from the shape, it has a hole in the middle...

I was doing the same but her accent is perfect.
I had to share this because it's so ridiculous. In Serbian, when you want to say you're going to the bathroom, you can say "I'm going to the place when the emperor goes by foot." Yeah. That's right.
"Idem gde car ide peške." / "Идем где цар иде пешке." - for those who want to see it in actual Serbian.
This phrase is very archaic, and the last time I heard it used was by my grandma, but yeah, people actually do still use it from time to time xD
In polish we say the same but instead of emperor we say king.
I think we have some good ones also eg. "rzeźbić w brązie" which means "to scultp in bronzium" or "postawić kloca" which means "to stand/make a block".
Pretty neat. So the idea is...even an emperor has to walk to the bathroom, right? Like, we all have to do this same thing, rich or poor.

"Voy a clavar una frenada" - (this is very argentine) I'm going to make a skidmark

I'm Mexican and there are some that sounds the same for me. Sha also said one as being from Spain, so I suppose these are mainly Mexican, but actually from many Spanish speaking countries.

My God I need someone like you in my world. I have a great passion for learning Spanish and have studied it sporadically for at least ten to twelve years now. I’ve used flash-cards, computer programs, a library of books on the subject but I’ve never found anything on slang terminology. That would be a money maker. I'm a native spanish speaker (but I learn english since I was 3) I always get curious about how english speakers learn our language because I do understand that the pronunciation of some words and the vastity of rules we have in grammar and spelling can be a huge headache to many people (most of us have a rough time in Spanish language class too) But you're incredibly disciplined for being constant in your languy progress and thanks to your comment I feel totally inspired in learn Korean. Muchas de las veces esta persona “pocha” no habla el español o solo entiende un poco de español pero su pronunciación es muy mal, que parecen que ni son mexicanos. Espero que te haya ayudado :)

Yes, also in Argentina. However, the root of the word is 'huevo', though in case of the word huevear (also webear in Chile, and the slang derivatives) it means something else that I would not like to write here :)

Pero la chica puertoriqueña dice que "Pichar" significa "ignorar a alguien". Y la chica colombiana dice que significa "Coger, follar, tener relaciones sexuales".

You missed "amigo de lo ajeno" (something like "friend of other's stuff"). That one's pretty common here in Ecuador. Nice video btw!

English has it's own euphemisms for body functions. For example, "I've got to take a leak", 'going to raise the water table', 'Got to see a man about a dog', and even (among guys) 'going to drain the monster'!

Back in Colombia we have a lot of different euphemisms too.

Or when you're about to show ( or tell) something really cool to a friend you say: :"Agarrate la peluca!"
When a lady has nice legs:"ella tiene mas patas que una mesa de billar( o una araña)"
Or when going to a party:"Vamos a depelucarnos!"
All of them change depending on the different regions of the country.
Also the names for the genitals are really funny( other ones very obscene)
There are a lot of funny sayings there( some really vulgar,but evenly funny)

WOW!!! He quedado absolutamente asombrado con este video. ¿Cómo es posible que una americana hable el español de tal manera, con la pronunciacion exacta y sin ningun tipo de acento que le distinga que no es hablante nativa? Incluso, habla mucho mejor que hablantes nativos del español, y mas asombrante aún conoce los terminos utilizados en el argot popular que formalmente no se conciben en la enseñanza del español como segundo idioma. Realmente no entiendo como logró este grado de perfección del español porque en mi caso llevo estudiando inglès hace 3 años y vivo en USA hace 5 meses y creo que cada dia se menos inglès y ni tocar el tema de la pronunciación, todo un dilema.
¿Que no tiene acento? ¿de que país eres, hombre?

Ruben - En este caso, no podemos considerar a Holly como una "gringa" en el sentido tradicional de alguien que recién se pone a aprender el español, ya que tiene raices en dos tierras - creció tanto en Mexico como en los EEUU durante los años y etapas cruciales del desarrollo en los que el hablante aprende a maniuplar y controlar el paladar y la lengua para formar los primeros sonidos. Esto contribuye a que no se le nota un acento "gringo". Lo que más me interesaría saber es que tan bien habla su papá. No entiendo por qué la gente se maravilla o se vuelve loca con esta sra. cuando hay MILES de hispanos que viven en los EEUU que dominan ambos idiomas. Spencer Colvin Sí amigo ya sé que Holly estuvo en México gran parte de su niñez pero cuando hice el comentario este era el primer video que había visto de ella. Yo considero que Holly causa conmoción en primer lugar porque tiene un canal de youtube que ningún otro latino que domina ambos idiomas tiene ( que yo sepa), y en segundo lugar porque es mayor el asombro que causa escuchar a un estadounidense hablando español con fluidez, lo que no es común, que a un latino hablar el inglés fluidamente lo cual es mucho más común, por lo menos en USA por la inmensa mayoría de latinos que viven y que han emigrado por años a ese país. Además, los que hemos comentado en este video somos hispanohablantes por lo que el idioma que conocemos es el español y es acerca del cual podemos opinar y decir si Holly tiene la pronunciación correcta o no, tal vez el inglés de Holly no sea bueno o tenga un acento extraño pero eso solo pueden corregirlo los hablantes nativos del inglés. Quizás al igual que Holly hay algún latino que tenga un canal de youtube en el que hable inglés y la gente igual se conmocione al escuchar que habla con la pronunciación y la gramática correctas igual a un hablante nativo del idioma inglés. ¿Quién sabe? Todo es posible.

"La regla" is a reference to time, not rules. In music, a metronome (think tempo) is often referred to as "una regla". Closer to a ruler than a rule. That is why it is used for periods (in fact the word "period" is the same idea = a period of time).
Also, "una carterista" is very specifically a pickpocket.

Haha, this cracked me up. I'm a native speaker and most of these are either uncommonly/rarely used, or still terribly vulgar, crass expressions to use -- although socially, men can get away with more of these. Fallecer is the common verb used for death. Women going to the bathroom will just say something simple (and really non-descriptive) like, "I'll be back soon/ya regreso/regreso pronto," or "voy al baño." "La regla" (the rule) is the most common one for periods, as well as, "estoy en mis dias." A lot of the sillier ones used here reminded me of Colombians and Argentinians I used to hang with, who jokingly use more colorful/creative expressions that they have great amusement in saying.

I do use "he/she kicked the bucket" for "estiró la pata" (Notice the accent mark on the "ó" to denote past third person singular tense. Without the accent it refers to present indicative first person singular, literally "I stretch my/the leg").

The lesson is great!! Here in Argentina we use "Mirar crecer el pasto desde abajo" as an euphemism for pass away.. it's something like "He went to look the roots of the grass".. to "to watch the grass growing undergroung".. which is referring directly to be burried
