- Northern Bavaria is famous for its beers, and is mentioned in the Guinness book of World Records as the area with the highest density of breweries in the world. It is also an ideal place to test the local specialty - Dark Beer. The amber to dark reddish-brown hued brew is characterized by its smooth malty flavor. We sampled dark beer in some of the local breweries.

@tigerclawfan Well i got to admit that I dont´t know much American beer. Im from switzerland and there are not so many kinds of american beer,
the "duff beer" was from America ( it was written on the bottle).
And De Konick isnt the only belgium beer i ever drank but its the only one i wanted to remember cause i liked it.
There are many collections of the "world best beers" in Amazon. I orderd one and look forward to try something new.

I´ve hardly seen seen any belgian beer in Germany. Czech beer you can get here it´s very good. Pilsner Urquell the brewery was founded by August Groll a Bavarian from Vilshofen a long while ago. Belgian beer I tried some while ago Jupiter I think it was, it was´nt very good. No wonder hardly seen it here thank god.
Try 'Duvel'. It's very good and pretty strong.

@tigerclawfan Bock, Schwarz, dunke, hell, weizen, stark, oktoberfest, pils, kölsch, doppelbock, rothelles just to name some.
These are brewed in around 1300 breweries, I can assure you, neither Belgium nor the US have such a giant variety.
But tell me which German beer did you try and about what belgian and us beers are you talking!
I read the "problems". Some of them are simply invented!

And most Americans (in big cities anyway) don't touch nasty piss like Miller or Budweiser, because the main European beers (Guinness. Stella Artois, Heineken, etc) are available in every bar & supermarkets. A lot of people would agree that among the major US brewers, Sam Adams is the only decent one

Mühlenkölsch is fun. Brewery is right in the middle of gay district and if you go out of it you smell alot of leather :)

But I was amazed by the quality of Julbrew in The Gambia W Africa
@tigerclawfan The USA has around 1200 breweries, Germany around 1300 on a much smaller territory! There are a lot of German books about beer, maybe you should do some research!
We never needed a micro-brewery revolution. Yours was a measure taken to fill the market made by the prohibition. We never had that situation!
So, you still didn't answer my question. What German beers did you drink and what beers are better!
By the way, just adding pumpkin to beer isn't equal to variety!

@tigerclawfan The only Belguim beer I know is De Konick.
It really isnt bad but I still prefer German or Czech beer but thats a matter of taste in my opinnion.
And by the way US beer sucks.
I once drank a beer called "Miller" and it honestly tasted like pisswater.
The worst beer I ever drank was the american Duff beer which I bought because I m a simpsons fan.
I almost Puked.
@tigerclawfan Seriously, without insulting you, there is no way German beer can be challenged by Belgian beer. We have a larger varity and a longer culture plus better regions to grow the ingredients.
Maybe the Czech republic has with Urquell and regent a better Pilsner but Belgium, no way!
@arneschwarz1988 Ignorant comment. You should research more about Belgium and it's great tradition and beer culture. According to beer reviewers Belgium is byfar probably the best beer country in the world.

US beer only sucks when you drink the major brands such a Miller, Budweiser,Budlight. Craft beer is where its at here in the states and of course duff beer sucks because think about it ever other mass produced american beer sucks so why would that be any better. But i still think German makes the best beer in the world (this all opinion based of course.)

You can't know beer that well if you think German beers are almost identical! I start to think you that you don't know what you're talking about!
@tigerclawfan So, about the article. The author gets quite angry about the lack of knowledge of many Germans. Worse in the US and still you claim they have great beer!
He says Jopenbier contradicts the Reinheitsgebot! Maybe he should read the Reinheitsgebot first! Then he mentions Berliner weisse as bein innovative. The beer itself is a catastrophy!
He's talking about the mixing which by definition makes a Mischgetränk out of the beverage!

Seriously, how do you dare to say I don't know what a good beer is! Not just you question the unquestionable quality of czech beer but you also say that Belgian beer is superior to German!

@tigerclawfan I have read books by experts on all kinds of topics considering beer and they didn't find my believe laughable at all!
Maybe you have sampled thousand of beers but you must have a horrible taste when you really believe for yourself what you're saying!
You still haven't told us about your favorite beer. It must be belgian Which is your favorate beer you like to drink everyday? All you did until now is to claim your are the expert, without proof, and dumbing down beer countries, especially germany. What is the beer for Mr. tigerclawfan?
