@@DeusLucifer Without any spoilers, after reading Arc 4's web novel, I still think Rem is best girl. There's def some interesting chars, but Rem is still on top imo. Haven't read Arc 5+ yet, so maybe things are more developed with Emilia.

Holy smokes guy, no. The ova movie is a prequil set before she was at the mansion. (Near the end it jumps to ep 11) Ova glosses it over a bit, but Amillia was frozen for a 100yrs, and puck u froze her, puck was suposed to protect her from afar, but broke that packed to help her directly. All the snow elves you see in the forest are actual elves that amilia froze when her power went haywire 100yrs back during an attack by witch cult.

welcome to the *REM* fan club, after chapter 18 she becomes one of the most loved female characters in all anime, because she is the definition of perfect woman and unconditional love, thanks to episode 18 REM is my favorite character from RE-ZERO, she is perfect, REM is spectacular.

We are saying this in retrospection.
At the time when Subaru broke his promise to her,there were a lot of things going on that are easy to determine as wrong after they happened but hard to choose whether they are wrong right then and there.
Though ofc,it is mixed with Subaru being ignorant too.
Let me give some examples :
1)Emilia tells Subaru to heal up and let her handle all the stuff but there was never a guarantee that something or the other could happen to Emilia and Subaru wouldn't be there to witness and try to use his RBD to prevent it.
The ignorance in this case is that Subaru upto this point,sees himself as the protagonist.That he needs to be there.
The idea of protecting her was justified but at the same time,she was there with roswaal,reinhard etc so there is little chance for something big to happen.
It's just he chooses to not take even the little chance of her getting harmed.
2)Next move to his dumb speech in front of the selectors.This is something that is flawed inside him because of video game knowledge.
Let's just say that you guys get put into a world that is "resembling id DBZ".
In such a case,what are your best chances to live through tragedies?
For someone who has never watched DBZ,it would be "someone strong and trustable".
On the other hand,as you have viewed it,your instinct would be to seek out "people like Goku."
The worst that could happen is that you will die but as it would be goku,you should be able to survive...right?
Now,let's say that you find someone who resembles goku but then it turns out he betrayed you and the other guy who simply chose to stay by someone trustable,survived.
So,then,are you wrong in choosing?
The answer is both yes and no.
There is definitely ignorance in expecting a living breathing world to have a pattern but human mind still seems something like that.
Your 'perfect' daily routine,the 'best' anime to watch,the theory of everything,all of these are our ignorant thoughts trying to seek out a pattern to "make our lives easier".
Now that I have established this,I hope you get what I mean about his dumb speech being justified from his perspective.
He has witnessed this many times in anime and games and figured that his actions are correct.
Ofc,it backfired cause the author gave him the middle finger and brought him back to ground.
3)Julius is a similar figure.Back when Subaru met him,only thing that he knew about him is that he took Emilia's hand,kissed it and also shut him out through the dumb speech.
Here's the thing however,Emilia is a carefree girl and the knights(barring a few like Julius) genuinely hated Emilia.
As Subaru knew nothing about him,he pulled info from what he has already seen in fiction and Julius is in the same position as a 'betraying'/bad Knight in this case.
For an example,refer to Irregular at Magic High school and many other similar anime that have this trope.
Ofc,Julius was better than that and so his decisions in the end backfired exposing his inner ugliness even further.
But again,this is in retrospection.
Lastly,I do want to say this,I don't necessarily have a problem with you referring to the solutions as 'simple'.I am sure that as you are a different person from me,and everyone else,you have your own experiences that tell you what is hard and what's simple.
The only problem with that is that Subaru is not a self-insert for you,me or others.
Ofc,he has few similarities that different people can relate to,but ultimately he is his own person.
He takes decisions in a way and experiences life in a way because of being that person.
I do believe it is cocky for us to then dismiss the flaws as 'simple' to solve.
Ofc,they do need to be solved,nothing wrong with that but understand that he is not you and does not have the same experiences.Much like how you are most likely not as good at understanding otaku things or at using a Japanese wooden sword.
He needs to learn to get past these flaws.

Subaru did not reject Rem, he says it to correspond to Rem's statement, to make him understand that he was the same as before, with which Rem fell in love. This is what many people do not understand and that is why they hate Subaru, saying that he rejected her, when he is the one who loves Rem very much in the same way that he loves Emilia.
However Emilia and Subaru are basically the ideal pairing since with Rem he doesn't grow because Rem isn't as gold hearted as Emilia. Emilia in every timeline always had absolute kindness and care while Rem killed him previously and even faked her death to make Subaru confess the feelings he had
