Complete DIY plans: blog.strongtie.com/build-a-modern-chic-chicken-coop/
Great job,I built a similar coop, maybe a bit longer, but then,i decided to cut a roof opening for light and sunshine, covered with plexi-glass,then I was able to plant grass seeds and plants for them to have growing greens and a lot of insects, like cucumbers, eggplant even 5 CORN plants, and i would gather worms from my garden and"replant"them deep enough, after that i rarely feed them myself, except for veggie peels,my next project is to raise snails,i"ll triple my egg production, witch is around 10/day with 8 brides and two roosters, the biggest of the two is almost 4kg....!!!!...WATCH FOR MINKS.....!!!!!
Glad you included the plans!
you guys rock, thank you for easy to follow, detailed plans, go opensource!
Great work
too cool thank you!
MUY buena calidad, el texto imagenes. czcams.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO Un manuel muy completo y trabajado. Resulta muy práctico. Para principiantes y profesionales. Lo recomiendo
One takeaway I can see from your project is: wife totally involved in helping; of as great or greater importance is your daughter observing (from time to time when not playing) her mom and dad working together in harmony and creating something. Should be of value later when she wants to do or make something, she can go to mom and dad for advice/help. Hopefully, this will pay great dividends in her later years. Good example for her.
Or she will say no way for me outa here!
I built a chicken coop similar to this one but I live in Eastern Ontario so I had to insulate the living quarters. I used 2x4’s with 3 1/2 inch batts. I also had an electrical connection for a heat bulb. I build a guillotine door for the living quarters that I could raise and lower by means of a pulley system. It also was constructed using 2x4’s with insulation. To stop predators from digging under the coop, I installed wire mesh on the floor of the coop. Building this coop was a great experience and I got a new appreciation of just how fascinating chickens are.
Good call! Thanks for the tips
Nice chicken coop. We just finished one. Went online and ordered heavy duty magnets instead of latches. Love them. So much easier to open when you have something in your hands.
Very cool looking, thanks so much for actually providing plans! that's awesome - Subscribed.
Nice...
I love the way you create and build your ideas at your home and do it with your family..
Great job .
Great family.
Beautiful! Would love to have one in my farm for my pet chickens.
Thanks for making these wonderful projects and sharing them here.
Thank you!
Awesome free plans! Everyone wants to charge for everything these days. Thanks so much! Subscribed
Excellent video! Excellent coop! Wish I were that talented and had that amazing array of tools.
Love the modern look! A chicken coop doesn't have to be an eye sore. This one is a winner for sure!
Thank you for posting this video & plans, we followed and made one and it looks so awesome, I LOVE it!
10 out of 10 chickens would approve of this coop! Looks awesome, love the modern style, plus it looks like y'all had fun!
This was great, thanks, I've been looking for "small chicken coop and run" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - (just google it ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my friend got amazing success with it.

There are many factors in creating an amazing design. One place I discovered that successfully combines these is the coop magic tactic (google it if you're interested) definately the most useful info that I've heard of. Check out this unbelievable website.
Not certain about the points made but ,if anyone else wants to uncover work coop designs try coop magic tactic (just google it ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my mate got amazing success with it.
hi guys, the best results that I have had was by using the Coop Magic Tactic (i found it on google) definately the most incredible info i've followed.
There are many components to doing a pro job. One place I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the coop magic tactic (check it out on google) definately the no.1 course that I've heard of. Check out this awesome resource.
This is amazing - we just got 6 chickens so this will be perfect for us. Printed the plans! Just one question, what color paint did y’all go with? It’s beautiful.
Love this coop!!! Great job! This is exactly what we need in our yard.
Can't help but be impressed with your work and I think that sign is the greatest I have ever seen.
Best coop build I've seen to date. Great paint too.
A trick I learned: run a 24-30-inch apron of hardware cloth on the ground around the coop and stake down the edges. It'll go a long way to keeping foxes/raccoons/whatever other predators you have locally from digging under the frame and snacking on your birds/eggs.
My dream is to own a small piece of land to establish a homestead. I just started work as a fresh grad and i still have a long way to go but videos like this keeps me motivated to pursue my dreams :)
Keep on going pal you got this!!! Best of luck
Keep working hard and save your money and someday you may.
Love your coop! ❤️ Pretty and functional. Depending on where you live though, you might want to add some hardware cloth on those little open areas above your door. We've had some critters get in our coop through the smallest holes!
Thanks Jessica! There actually is hardware cloth in that little open area.
Oh good! Like I said, we learned the hard way on that one. Glad to hear your girls are safe 😊
Looks awesome and I think your goal was achieved. You hit the nail on the head in saying that the siding was tedious. If one has the extra money and values the aesthetics then I say go for it!
I love your website. I don't know how to build anything but I still love how creative you guys are.
You so beautiful, you know that
Amazing job guys! Thanks for the plans. I’m going to use them and configure them a little
That really is nice and excellent work. I have a great coop that my Son in Law built but now the little Bantams need a play yard. I am an old gal and hope that I can get some help getting it done.
Great tutorial video. It helps me a lot on which my third coop should be. Thank you.
Cool coop! As long as no raccoons come to raid the coop by opening the latches and no skunks or groundhogs dig in you're set for a long time. You could also tarp some of the sides for a snowy/frigid winter if needed. Your birds don't even have to put up with rain on their backs. That thing looks like it will last many generations of chickens.
You are great man ! I don't know whether its your wife who's the genius for pointing "over there" where she needed a chicken coop, or you for actually coming up with the design and "building" it , but I thank you for the design and the video that I can refer back to when I get stuck. Thanks and I subscribed .
Thank you I was looking after a video that can really help me build my coop and your video was the best for me and my hens and rooster
Damn Dude, You and mama kicked ass on that chicken palace!! Well done! Looks very nice.
😂 thanks!
RE that was an awesome video. I am writing from the Big Island on a ranch. We have 25 acres and our chickens are free-range. The flock is getting older and I would like to start another flock, smaller for myself. The other group are my sisters. This coop is awesome. I may take me 10 years but I never back away from a challenge. Mahalo from Hawaii
Thanks!!! And good luck!
Nice work! Could you please specify what type of accessories are used to lock the doors (visible at 8:07). Thank for help.
Yo brother, great job on the new coup! Nice to see the whole family getting in on the project. Everything looked wonderful until you decided on the battleship gray for the color. When you go to repaint, stick to a lighter color like it was before you painted it. It also made the coup look smaller when you painted it with the dark color. Great job though! 🐓🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔
Nice clean design. Thanks for posting the plans. It’s helpful to review details when thinking about my own design. Now that you’ve had it up and running for a couple years, would you do anything different?
Very nice!!!!
Here, in Brazil, I would say "show de bola".
This is really nice!
And really appreciate the plans and materials list! Really helpful!
For free! Thank you!!!!
What a beautiful coop! Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share it with us. Can you tell me what product you used to finish the outside please, the color and is it paint or stain? Maybe a link to the product please??
We're going to be making a similar style coop...just a bit bigger. Love the lap siding! What color paint did y'all use? Looks great!!
Absolutely gorgeous! Looks like those high end coops for sure! Unfortunately we don't have even half those tools, and budget much smaller, but I liked seeing your whole process! Thank you!
I'm about to build my own, inspired by yours, in a (low cost) and different version, with pallet woods for the finish, it's my first experience let's see what it will brings. Thanks for the inspiration, it's a good looking and functional chicken coop, keep with the awesome work, best regards from Italy.
All you really need is chicken wire 4 post and a roof. Improvise hehe
It depends of what you looking for ,obviously chickens don’t really care if the chicken coop is nice to see or just 4 posts with a roof 😂
Love how it turned out. Fantastic plans!
Ficou muito bonito, vou fazer um no meu quintal! Quais as medidas?
تبارك الله عليكم الله يجعل ليكم الخير في هاد المشروع انشاء الله وشكران لكم على هاته المعلومات الجميلة والمفيدة وشكران وشكرا الله لكم بكل خير يارب
As a draftsman and duck owner myself, I truly admire the result. I know what kind of hardwork building something like that entails...
Awesome, thanks for sharing. Keep making videos!
One of the best chicken coops I’ve seen 👌🏻💕 yup I’m gonna have someone build this lol
WOW you and your wife did a great job building that coop!!
Thank you for the easy to comprehend plans! As a technician, your plans is the closest to as-builts that I've seen. I'll have to modify a bit for budget and Pacific NW weather, and will post photos when I complete.
Nice video! Your tool collection is impressive.
Very pretty I need the storage underneath the coop for food and bedding.
Great video and great plans. Thanks for posting the PDF for free!
Hello can you tell me for how many chickens is this coop and also details for the materials its a good video for those who really love chickens and to make their chicken coops themselves thank
you.
How to make sure those hinges don't snap if you slam the door open? Also, what chainsaws do you recommend for the chickens?
Just wondering what that wonderful power tool you were using to cut the hardware cloth? I've been using aviation snips forever, to cut hardware cloth and it takes awhile.
Team work makes the dream work. LOVE IT!
Great coop! what was the tool you used to cut the hardware cloth? I used tin snips to cut mine but it hurts the wrists after a while
świetny film podaj wymiary tej woliera i czy drzewo miałeś suszone?
Use that hardware cloth to line bottom too then add sand for outdoor run.
Your coop is one of the prettiest/classiest and fanciest 👌🏽 coop builds I’ve seen so far, you do tie with April’s W. newest coop though! I just wish you would’ve filmed more of it! There’s a theme with your videos and that is you leave out a lot of the steps. It’s like step 1 and suddenly you’re at step 3 and 4. And you also have it match the beat of whatever music and that would be fine if there was more demonstration. I don’t mean to be rude or critical, I’m just a fan of your work and would like to see more of it. This is a beautiful coop and hope it’s served you, your family and your ladies (chickens) well! Pls keep building... pls show more footage 🤘🏽
Yes
Awesome work! My wife Loved the heart shaped sweat mark @2:10.
I've looked ar so many coops and finally found one that really turns my crank. What was the approximate cost please?
over $1000 for the siding alone. plus hundreds for the sponsored simpson strong ties.
Great video, love the quality of your work. What do you estimate this cost in materials?
this is the best looking coop I've ever seen!
Hey just found you guys. I’m new to building and was just wondering what materials you used to build the roof part of the run. I’m looking not to make it too complicated and decided on building a lean roof but still don’t know what materials would deter rain (birds have a separate home for winter) from getting inside the coop. Do you think a plywood as the base and then just putting some plastic roof panels would be good enough for them just to lounge around during summer months? Thanks!
THANKS For Plan I will try to do this for my chicken .. With love and Respect From TURKEY
Nice looking coop!
Awww honey that is incredible looking! Got me inspired to build one my self!!! Thanks a bunch 🐔🐔🐔
Yes good one
It's a beautiful coop! how big is it? Are you going to do another video walk around showing the inside.
Thank for the video my chicken are happier now how long did this take you to make?
Where did you get your hardware cloth? I can only find 2’ to 3’ wide rolls, nothing the size that you have in the video.
nice coop and great team work. you have all stuff you need to build it up. it could be cheaper than expected. may l ask how much you spent on it?
wish I could do something like this to my coop but I need to consider about the cleaning, maintenance, the chicken's sleeping tree (because they're the breed that sleeps on branches and high place) and the predators like snake, water lizards and human.
Amazing job. I loved it!
Thank you! GORGEOUS coop!
This coop looks amazing. How long did it take to build?
Dude, that is really nice. Great job.
Thank you!
First of all I just want to see it so very wonderful design amazing I am so amazed to see that design big fan of yours what do you use at the roof to protect it from the rain?
I just want to know how much does it cost and what was the dimension of that thing that coop? Impatiently waiting for your answer so that I can make my own chicken coops and send you the pictures. Thanking in appreciation
Looks good, in a picture on your site it looks like you have an automatic door. Which one did you go with?
Thanks, this is the one we went with amzn.to/2GbORq1 (affiliate link)
Great job, but what's preventing pests or nuisance animals from burrowing, from below, into the coop? Didn't notice a secure solid attached base or sub-floor...' Thanks...
Looks real nice, but I do have a question, did you put the chicken wire on the bottom as well to keep critters from digging under it and getting to chickens under there? We’ve had lots of issues with that in our area.
in a nice big coop project like that only suggestion is putting gravel under the wood base so that in due time the water wont rot it and eat it away and perhaps will need to redo it after just gravel under the wood parts only not in the coop just so that the water wont be stagnant on the wood and the rocks will lift it just a tiny bit so the water ill not effect is as much but very nice job.
dreamkiss4u that is a great idea. We used treated wood on the bottom but that would help too. Plus it would help keep predators from digging in.
You should post a walk through of this coop. All sides and inside.
Do yall got the blue print for this coop. It's perfect.
A Great build by you and Jamie, i loved it even without the siding on it, not sure why you didn't put a base down on the floor, i saw the photos and it didn't look like you did, unless i'm wrong and i missed that bit. Well Done to you both on a great build, hope the Chickens are happy in their new home.
Barry (ENG)
Thanks Barry! We put down some old linoleum in the coop to make it easy to clean. We just didn't show it in the photos since it wasn't very attractive.
Rogue Engineer be mindful of asbestos in the linoleum if it starts to crack
You should have buried some mesh to keep out predators and how you gonna move that coup when they destroy that ground inside the cage
Really enjoyed you chicken coup build. Looks great.
Thank you!
Outstanding! Do you have links to your tools?
*6:26** don't ever use a miter saw by crossing over your arms like that.* It is an accident waiting to happen.
Awsome!...love the grey!
can you please tell me what rybo Brad Nailer you are using 16 or 18
This is amazing!!! Can you tell us how much the total cost was for supplies?
what is the spray for? only for color? or also for weather proof?
congratulation, i was so excited to see your video , love the henhouse :-)
Amazing thanks for sharing.simple and beautiful we have 14 chickens too. New subscriber here from canada.god bless
I was looking at the plan and something does not add up like for the front side there is four 2x6 and three 39 gaps in between them and that adds up to 141 but the top and bottom are Measure to be 139 so what do I do?
Wow! Awesome coop!
This isn’t a how to. It’s a hey watch what I made.
Sawyer Walker same difference
The how-to is in the free plans. Some people are just plain lazy.
I think it’s an add for Simpson strongtie. The Simpson products are expensive and overkill for a chicken coop.
islanti some people like to have quality.
This is just superb, I have been researching "hen coup" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some awesome things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
Very handsome building love it!
What is that tool you used for cutting the hardware cloth? I NEED one. Anyone???
Ryobi electric shears
Looks great! Love it... Subscribed 💙
What ryobi cutter where you using to cut the chicken wire.
Idk but an angle grinder works too.
