The Book of Soul man...one of the most emotional songs I've ever heard
For sure. This and APIDTA always tear me up no matter how many listens
My most listened to song of all time (not sure how emotionally unhealthy that is) I bumped it over 2K times last year, my favourite song of all time
The book of soul straight up saved my life. Never heard nun tha raw and emotional since shits scary listening to it. Takes you to a dark dark place
So happy to you review this project. A true 2010’s classic album. Another album I don’t see reviewed/reacted to enough is AT LONG LAST ASAP by ASAP Rocky
great suggestion
Tbh he should start with live love asap and than just go through his discography chronologically but tbh im probably just saying this because im biased towards live love asap lmao
I been saying this !!!! I hope he does it
Please do asap rocky’s discography from start to finish. The instrumentals and lyrics are so nice, I have a feeling you’d love it similar to the Travis videos
Yes, I would love it
plz start with "at long last asap" though, imo has the most substance which bob likes and i dont want to wait months for him to eventually get too it
@@basedmase777 Nah, if Bob is going to listen to Rocky (which I hope he really does) he should start with his first one with Live.Love.A$AP and go from there
Yes please! - asap rocky from start - he is someone that you can see/hear his evolution with each album
Control System is a early 2010s alternative underground hip hop classic it was super popular with the stoner community along side albums like Acid Rap, Oxymoron, Because of the internet, Feel Good, Z , Doris and Faces loved this era of hip hop
Omg, there needs to be an Acid Rap reaction
@@ryancalver1221 right Acid Rap kicked it all off
I would also add The Underachievers, Flatbush Zombies
@@Halucidnate definitely! Also, Pro Era
@@shawnfox3357 yeah just all of them lol
Just FYI, it takes me a couple tracks to settle in and get used to Ab Soul's style. Enjoy!
Look into the story of his new album and what happened with him during the period of lockdown. He did an interview with Charlemagne explaining what happened. This is the single from the latest project czcams.com/video/baTxdSdYR5E/video.html
Interesting note, Ab-Soul said that his conspiracy theorist period got him heavily depressed and the disinformation hole he dug himself in made him distance from his family. He felt boxed in and kept digging himself deeper with research since that is what his fans expected of him. In his latest album 'Herbert' he finally distanced himself away from those thoughts and 'Ab-Soul' character (Herbert being his given name) and delivered what in my opinion is his best album since. So definitely give that one a try!
You have to remember this album is +10ish years old. alot of the production was a more popular sound back then compared to if it came out today.
Yeah, I've been wondering if it's more of an 'era' sound than anything else
@@bobthepoppop I always would skip to Bohemian Grove even when it dropped no offense soulo lmao
Gang Starr. Either their first album Step in the Arena or their fourth Moment of Truth. RIP Guru
Agreed. Moment of truth is one of my favorite albums
The "Pro's & Con's" wordplay in the 2nd verse on Terrorists' Threats i think you missed...but it's GENIUS.
There are a lot of things I missed, but also some stuff I caught that I didn't mention just because there is SO MUCH going on lyrically... and I worried I'd never finish the video 😂
Ab Soul has a great writing style
The picture of the occultist you showed us is the inspiration of the album artwork on Ab-Soul’s 2016 album “Do What Thou Will”

Herbert has a COLD ass pen.
crowley was a big joker. he wrote in one of his books that he sacrificed 150 children per year, and some people took him seriously, when he was making a joke about masturbation. Still a pretty insane guy tho
In my humble opinion, ILLuminate is one of the greatest songs in the history of hip-hop
Everytime it came on in GTA I refused to get out of my car until it finished. lol
This was my shit back in high school. A gateway album that got me into the rest of TDE religiously after discovering Kendrick. Soulo is a genius
From a TDE perspective i'm maybe a little disappointed it didn't land on an Isaiah Rashad project as Cilvia Demo, which is probably the best project if we exclude Kendricks projects for TDE lol. With that said I really do love you're paying soul some attention. Great rapper
Unpopular opinion Cilvia Demo is the best TDE album including kendrick
@@dylangrieb5986cilvia better than tpab is WILD, and cilvia demo is a 10/10 for me
@@dylangrieb5986 fair take bro
Think your forgetting how popular oxymoron was
agreed. Cilvia Demo is the second best TDE album after GKMC IMO.
Soulo! At the point of this album, he was my favorite TDE member. Like Bob said, hes hit or miss and I think his personal life/trials etc take a toll on him. Hes put out some great stuff over the years. hope he is doing well personally.
You cut it right before my favorite bar ever. “Soul brother number 1 plus 1, getting fed like where drugs and guns come from”. Thanks for doing this one! Was super excited and did not disappoint although this project only gets better with more listens.
Bob I want to thank you for that opening monolog. It made me have a realization about a difficult situation I am in. I appreciate your words.
You’re gonna love DO WHAT THOU WILT by Ab-Soul as well
Bob, you see it. His wordplay is impeccable. The double and triple entendres he chooses are 2nd to none.
I appreciate you man, we can really tell you do it for the joy of music and I’m glad you are who you are. Keep it up man
Whoa, you continue to amaze me with your selections🤯
Hey Bob,
If you like “Ab-Soul’s outro” off of Section.80, check out “Kendrick Lamar’s interlude” by Ab-Soul fear Kendrick. It’s basically a sequel and the roles are reveresed from the Outro from Section 80. Kendrick is rapping & Ab is reciting poetry/ spoken word.

BOB. When this released.. it took a bit.. but once it settles, it is truly special and in it's own lane in a way. Damn I was a kid when this dropped... Now I have one. Lol!!! Nice picks as always
This was my 1st time hearing this album along with you kool experience.. great bounce back from the Drake experience.
yessir cant wait to get into this, love watching your stuff. pretty sure youve been suggested these rappers but love to see your thoughts on joey badass and capital steez
He would love STEELO for sure!!
Bob, you’ve reviewed my favourite album growing up! Thank you!
I thought it would take much longer for Bob to get to this album. HYPED
Thanks for your thoughtful reaction to this classic!
Veryyy underrated album & artist. You should check out his “do what thou wilt” album. It’s one of my favorite albums ever
Love this album since it came out when I was in high school!
ugh love this album. so nostalgic for me. shoutout to whoever recommended it and great reaction
great album and great times attached to it. loved the video Bob! idk how often people have suggested Schoolboy Q to you, but you should definitely give him a listen. Definitely 2nd best artist to come from TDE behind Kendrick imo
Schoolboy Q gets mentioned pretty often, a bit more so lately. Someday!
Bob your analysis is fascinating and really ultimately seems pure and hopeful for humanity in how you break down your thoughts. Nothing will enjoy us Ab-Soul fans if you try and break down his most heavy and complex album with your intellect in "Do What Thou Wilt" album reaction.
It’s so funny cause I the first time I heard that “coldest cat, saber tooth” line I chuckled exactly how Bob did lmao it’s perfectly clever
Really great analysis on the deeper songs .
W Alan Watts reference @2:00, mans was the real life Yoda
Makes me hope bob will do more Lupe as I learned about Alan Watts from a Lupe lyric "Alan Watts got Was' living without a plan / But I want the smoke, that's why the kitchen ain't got no fans"
Wow.. Hell yeah, I'm definitely here for this
1:06:36 Weezy is Lil Wayne, who made “Tha Block Is Hot” 🔥🔥
Glad you reviewed this one
Habits and Contradictions would complete the TDE set. Kendrick soul and q all released around the same time as section 80 if I remember rightly
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Amazing breakdown
..yeah the album doesn't *really* get started til Bohemian Grove.
I feel the same way
You should react to Lil Wayne, Bob!
Fr, I can’t believe he hasn’t yet
Yes! This album is super underrated. I was a teenager going through my "rebellious phase" when I first heard this album and it had a huge impact on me. It taught me a lot about self reflection. We love you soul brother #2!
Same here brother
Perfect timing jus got home from work
Finally! One of my favourite albums of all time
love this album!!
Bob I love your content!! I’ve been a subscriber ever since the Whole Lotta Red review. PLEASE PLEASE do some more J.Cole, preferably 4 Your Eyez only!! Thank you
Glad to see this reaction. Hope u get to react to his new album Herbert.
Also, when he says “I wish I could see out of Selassie eye” its also “Selassie I” or "Selassie the first." His subtle word play is top tier on these old projects. I love your videos and I’m stoked you did this album. Would love to see more MF DOOM/Viktor Vaughn/King Gheedora. Longterm 2 the mixtape by Ab-Soul is incredible, not well-rounded production, but some incredible word play! Also Revolutionary Volume 2 by Immortal Technique is intense, but incredible, amazing word play/punch lines and vivid storytelling and commentary on society/geo-politics. Keep it up!
I'm due for more DOOM. It'd be fun to do Operation Doomsday
1:02:49 it's funny he named 2 things we actually do have a little bit of control over.
Soul brother number 2 is him calling him the second Pete Rock because Pete Rock was Soul Brother
Ab-Soul himself recently tried commiting suicide by jumping off a freeway overpass. Thankfully, he survived.
This song takes me back to good times in middle school 🥹
One of my favorite albums ever
Yee this shit is classic, good reaction Bob. Also don’t forget 1999 by Joey and Amerikkkan Korruption Reloaded by Capital STEEZ, both tapes that are on similar energy to this album (plus Ab fw with both of them, even having a tat in honour of STEEZ)
What an era of music it was . Now everyone think they are woke
Boldly James “the price of tea in china”
my boy revenge of the dreamers 3 will be the best thing you’ve heard
50:05. that annotation is. right. The lyrics are suppose to say "but you can never see us"
Showin love bumps in the wip
Hey bob, you musttt do the black thought X danger mouse album of last year - cheat codes. One of the best lyrical albums of the year as well as production and similar to madvillainy
Yeah, Cheat Codes got a lot of requests last year when it landed. I'd like to.
Hello Bob
Please listen to the cold vein soon! Its legit contender for best produced album ever!
This.
El-P’s arc before Run the Jewels: Company Flow, Cold Vein, Fantastic Damage.
@@fornikolas El-P is a master mann, he is just different. Haven't heard much producers use the sounds he does, it's amazing!
Im sure you have been asked to do this guy quite a bit but if you somehow havent you should really check out billy woods
Please check out Longterm Mentality by Ab Soul it’s his first mixtape ever and is truly a classic! His new album Herbert is also so good!
Book of soul made me tear up the first time i heard it
I’ve been waiting for Thursday by the weeknd for a while considering u likes house of balloons! Hope u do it soon😊
Another double entendre, he said after Em which means Eminem but also “Them” put me after ‘em
I've always liked this album, even though it's not something that you go back to. It's not high in replay value except for a few personal songs to me, but it makes a really strong statement
I'm feeling the same way after a few days with it. I enjoy what it's trying to do, and it'll be fun to revisit from time to time, but not something I'll listen to constantly.
You should listen to ‘Long Term 2’ by Ab Soul. You’ll love it! Great video btw
Love the content, when can we expect to see SOS by Sza?
Lmao love u bob but u missed a good 90% of the triple entendres and meanings. A silver lining to ab soul music it has so much replay value
There's SO much... good god
"Soul Brother Number 2" he's likening himself to James Brown, who is known as "Soul Brother Number 1." He's kinda paying homage to James Brown too.
the book of soul is a masterpiece in story telling
This is a nice one ☝️
You gotta do ScHoolboy Qs discography when you get the chance!
Oh man if you want to know more about the occult you might go insane with his album Do What Thou Wilt
Now you gotta do Herbert. Imo his best album.
Fun fact Ab-Souls favorite rapper is Jay-Z
Yessir!
Finally Donda les go
he says if I can see out of the all seeing eye
Album is so underrated . This was gonna blast off and many ppl felt Ab soul was gonna be just as dope as Kendrick Lamar but I think As you listen to more Ab and in his latest album he address the mental issues he’s suffered with . Still a top tier lyricist and so gifted and dope
Hey Bob, since you are more of a rock guy originally, I was wondering how you felt about the new paramore record? I liked it a lot, as a person who started with hip-hop.
Let's goooooooooooo
He’s saying that he like Einstein if Einstein did all of those things he listed lol
I've seen a clip where sza was in a way mocking the suicide lady's death
that was really dark and disgusting
schoolboy q even made a face reacting to her somewhat joke about someone jumping off a building
Never heard this one but 13mins in & BoB is really phuckin Ranting!!! 😳
itd be cool to see you do acid rap by chance
Day 4 of asking for a Dave reaction, you would love We are all alone in this together
Herbert Next!! 🙌🏽
Can you please do more of The Weeknd’s projects? Like Dawn FM or Echoes of Silence?
I'd like to complete the Trilogy first, but I've been slacking so hard on that
You should listen to BUBBA by Kaytranada and 1999 by Joey badass
This the one
Empathy is about Alori Joh who committed suicide by jumping off a radio tower
He soul Brother, number two because there is an original soul Brother out there. I forgot his name.
Listen to his new album "HERBERT"!
Can you react to Captain Murphy Duality?
The Book Of Soul is the my fav
Hey Bob, not sure if you’ll see this but I was wondering if you’d ever check out any more Nas? Old or new. 😅
I just clicked this so fast
You should check out other TDE members like Schoolboy Q's Oxymoron and Isaiah Rashad Cilvia Demo
