- It's like a new age interpretation of Tabla duet following legacy of Indian classical music. A jubilant performance by Shri Anubrata Chatterjee and Shri Shubh Maharaj from two different Gharanas of Indian music. They were accompanied by Shri Hiranmoy Mitra in Harmonium and Shri Allarakha Kalawant in Sarangi.
This performance was part of one of the biggest Indian classical music concerts in Kolkata - Girija Devi SUR Festival (www.surindia.org) which happened last on 4th February, 2018 at Nazrul Manch.
Kaahon had participated in this festival as the Digital Partner and documented the whole festival in details. This video is a part of Kaahon's wholehearted archival effort for other musicians, listeners and the posterity.

Really enjoyed the presentation. Both men have much to present the audience and their colleagues but they form a team and challenge each other while showing appreciation and respect. It can be seen that the greatest interest is in the music not self-promotion. They are confident and humble. Very inspiring.

A significant majority of nagmas are played around raga Kalavati. No obvious reasons as to why though, here seems to be an exception where Raga Saraswati is being used for nagma ...refreshing change indeed ...

Shubh has to be given two microphones. One for the highs and mid highs, and other in the dagga for the mid lows and lows... That screeching sound of microphone membrane is so irritating. Not only Shubh but every Banaras player needs that, because of the intensity of the sound of the khuli strokes of their baj! Quite saddening that the organizers hardly pays attention to these...
