- Creative Karma is proud to present to the concert of the young tabla maestros Anubrata Chatterjee (Farrukhabad Gharana) and Shubh Maharaj (Benaras Gharana) at Raaga Taala Retreat 2019. Accompanied by renowned Sarangi player Dilshad Khan, the two musicians created a scorching jugalbandi that mesmerised onlookers in the cool winter night. Their collaboration and innovation in their unique styles made this a concert to be remembered!

Wonderful to hear great tabla playing by both artists and nice sarangi accompaniment
Both are outstanding young percussionists. Synchronisation is praiseworthy, despite a sea of difference in their respective gharanas'baaj.
Shubh Maharaj's Mike was a little subdued. Adjustment via enhancement was needed. God Bless them !

Both played well, but I found that in this performance, Shubh Ji had lot more clarity and command; even Dilshad Bhai on Saarangi appreciated him a lot.... Anubrata's performance was also very good however I am really upset on how he, without mincing my words, RUINED the Farmaasi Chakradaar played at the end @1:06:50 (composed by Kishan Maharaj Ji)... He did not know/did not play the Bols according to how they were in the composition... playing was in discord for that particular cheez...
Other than that, it was a pleasurable jugalbandi of the 2 talented tabla players

Yash Bhai, your honest criticism is needed and appreciated. These days too many people treat music as a religion where criticism is almost blasphemous. It is important we identify an artist's weak moments for all to learn without arrogance.

@@nihalhakim5148 Bhai, I totally agree with you. Criticism is good if it helps one grow and improve but if you disrespect the artist, that is not respectful. Yash bhai has explained the minor nuances quite expertly and I really appreciate the consistent respect in his comment. Anubrata dada has a lot to learn, just like the rest of us. None of us are complete masters, even Zakir Ji attempts to learn new techniques and instruments. Just a humble opinion, no disrespect meant!
