So glad to see you've got some Tanuki. I had my first pair Tanuki jeans a while back (NHT) Natural Indigo High Tapered in a size 34. The construction is absolutely spot on, and texturally really interesting. I also got some OTNHT Oni x Tanuki Natural Indigo High Tapered and really heavy at 20oz. in size 34 also. They combine the great Tanuki construction (love the half-lined back pockets even if I don't carry anything in them!) with even more texture. They also avoid that greenish/turquoise hue of the secret denim that, like you, I find misses the glory of really, deep indigo. My next pairs will likely be either the RHT (retro high tapered) or ZHT (Zetto high tapered) - really looking forward. I'm also a huge fan of PBJ (though I wish they lined the back pockets) for their textures and innovative fabrics and Iron Heart for the bulletproof fabric though I wish they'd make a modern higher slim-tapered cut like PBJ/Oni & Tanuki. I really struggle with their cuts but love the fabric. Keep up the great work - this is the first time I've written but have been watching for ages and really enjoy your denim reviews. Take care and all the best, Tim
Just recently purchased this from Redcast Heritage Co. after watching this video. Thank you! Love the jacket. It's so hairy and interesting. My wife laughs at me because I'm mildly obsessed with it. Have watched many of your videos and thoroughly enjoy what you do. Cheers!
About the label, Tanuki is referencing their mascot the "raccoon dog" called a yokai which is one of the forms of mythical monsters called "tanuki." As for the first bit of rhyme in English, "as the autumn arrives," I think it could be that the jacket, suited for autumn or cooler weather, will bring good fortune, good luck because that is what happens when you see a yokai, you gain good luck. Yokai are mischievous, much like this little saying.
Thanks for your review! I have one of these jackets on its way in a size 42. I am 6 foot but quite thin, so I needed to go a 42 for the length, hoping it fits me as well as yours does.
Great review mate 👌 I bought the Tanuki 18oz Green cast earth type 3 jacket and can absolutely vouch for the quality and character of the denim . Compared to my Momotaro and ONI jackets it’s in a different class
Hi there, yet another great review and this one is a real eye opener for me because I was certain that my next jacket would be a IH-526-PJ but now I'm not so sure, having that said how would you compare the two? I live near Amsterdam and there are no IH dealers in Holland so I have never seen a IH jacket, the roughness of the Tanuki denim really appeals to me, it's a nice contrast to my IH-555-02's. To get an idea of the fit of the size 42, what are your measurements?
IH is amazing, but the denim is very uniform and tight weave. I do not believe IH do a slubby rough fabric, they do heavy.. they do heavy very well! In terms of fit, I think my real chest measurement is around 39 inches, I am 5 10ish and 80kg ish.
@@DevonReviewer I couldnt resist paying GBP200,- for an as new IH-526-PJ... I might buy the IDID type2 of Tanuki in the future though since they are in back order.
Is it common for bottom holes to have loose bits of string hanging off them as shown here? While other aspects look great, the button holes look to be of poor quality
I wouldn’t recommend buying from Tanuki direct from the website. I contacted them to organise a return and they initially agreed to create a returns label to help. Then they ignited my emails. I ended up posting back at great expense. Very expensive lesson learned. They did offer a ‘gift’ on my next purchase. Hopefully they will refund the cost of the items minus the postage promptly.
Hey Devon, I was wondering would it be possible for you to do a review of the Heirloom Messenger bag 2 from Moose Brand? There isn’t many reviews of this bag and I’ve quite liked how you go into such great detail with your reviews with monthly and yearly reviews.
Thats a good looking bag, isn't it, but a little more than I would be looking to spend.. if you want to buy one for review I will let you know my shipping address ;)
DevonReviewer If I could I would 😅 I’d happily throw what I can afford to help get it though. With everything going on though mightn’t be all that much sadly.
Japanese language lesson time: It’s not ta-NU-ki. The emphasis is not on the 2nd syllable - NU. It’s TA-nu-ki…emphasis on the 1st syllable - TA. Also, it’s not mo-mo-tear-o. It’s mo-mo-tah-ro. A sounds are always Ah.

If you like the fabric of Tanuki then you should definitely try Pure Blue Japan. Very similar but they have been around a bit longer
That does look like a nice type 3.

Tanuki has more American style fit . If you workout and have large arms, thighs or butt. Tanuki is a good start in Japanese denim to feel for sizing
I love that discontinued GMT Master ii the best. I like it better then the batman, pepsi and coke. I've got a hulk. I want a new 41 no date sub.
With winter coming in could you please review sheep inc? I quite fancy one of their jumpers lifetime warranty like the dm’s.

Very pleased with what I have seen from Tanuki, great quality and nice cuts!
Have you worn pbj?
Tanuki means a raccoon dog, it's not specifically a folklore character's name.

What size is the one you have got from Tanuki?
This one is a "42"... the sizing is much better than the Momotaro!
Denimio seem to be constantly out of stock on the bigger sizes these days.
