Round Epoxy Table Build

  • How to make a round epoxy table. Step by step guide to how I made this round table from an old walnut root slab and epoxy resin. This build was a little unusual, so there are several parts that I used/invented techniques that I had never done before. The biggest improvement from my last round table build was how to make a perfectly round form with very little wood/epoxy waste. I hope you like it, and feel free to comment with any questions or feedback!

Cam, I cannot stress enough how much I admire your humbleness and genuineness. You make fantastic tables and I find your videos wholesome and entirely satisfying to watch. I am a builder here in Australia and you can imagine the LAST thing i would want to see is a work-working video when I get home from work. Yet, here we are. :D

A keynote speaker at an event I was at once said that "Aussies can sniff bullshit from 50 paces"... I think that's why the unvarnished truth (pun intended) is respected for us, and most of us are very egalitarian. I too love Cam's work. I'm so tempted to substantially increase my tool collection, just so I have a hobby. ;-)

Cam - I've JUST discovered your vids on a subject I've been interested in exploring -
as _one_ of the reasons we bought this ( our new ) property right AT when this vid was first published, right at_ a year ago.
The main feature HERE was a NICE-sized Shop which I was _hoping_ I could start doing something like what I'm seeing here in your vids . I'm glad I've discovered your vids, and hope to gain the insights necessary to make a worth-while go of something FAR more modest than - but still inspired by - your content here.
    Thanks for the encouragement !
Also, the narration is a HUGE positive factor helping me (us) to understand not _only_ what we see you doing, but your thinking behind it as well .
Finding MANY of the tools and products I'll need for success as affiliate links in the supplemental portion of your post is a HUGE help , TOO ! I expect it'll save, eliminate or at least _reduce_ the side-work of experimenting with what tools , equipment, epoxies, finishes , etc. to use that "might" work ... 👍!
All the BEST from Texas ! -
    Chuck .

Cam. G'day mate. No questions just admiration. You are everything a good CZcamsr should aspire to be. Informative, creative, talented and your dry sense of humour guarantees me at least one good laugh each video. Honestly, I have sometimes burst out laughing at you banter. I hadn't noticed how fast you speak until you mentioned it, now I am almost tempted to check my playback speed. I work hard for a living in a shipyard, all toxic and sterile. I am though, a gardener by trade and nature. Watching your videos is a joy, to relax to and watch a natural media be lovingly showcased.
The epoxy side is a bit of a sore point with me though, because after years of exposure to two-pack epoxy paint as I mix it and run paint machines, often hundreds of litres per coat, for hours at a time, I have become sensitized to it and it is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Glad to hear you let it cure well before finishing. Often I have to sand freshly sprayed epoxy after it has hardened after only one day and the dust is a nightmare for me. Though I have over the last couple of years learned to mitigate the worst of it. A tip for you is, I use petroleum jelly as a barrier cream, it seems to work well.
    Cheers, Joel.

Someday when I win the lottery I'll come to you and order something smashing and then after it's installed I'll invite all the neighbors and family over and look down my long nose at them! Cam, I owned a cabinet, millwork and panel processing company in Huntington Beach in the 70's & 80's. We did a lot of very high end corporate conference tables with very expensive exotic veneers. We always tried to convince the customer to use resing coatings to preserve these woods that are vanishing in our modern world. If you do it right they will last forever. It was also a ongoing revenue source because we could go out and refurbish the surfaces on sight. I love your love for God's creations and your desire to respect and preserve that beauty. Thanks.

Cam, loved the table, turned out amazing. I have been resin casting and had some issues with soft casts, which makes me rethink my mixing process. I am a big believer in mold release, it is one step that saves so much time. Thinking about how you took a tail pice to fill the larger empty section, something very similar could be done with a bunch of smaller fragments and ends. I particularly enjoy how you are learning to develop your craft and are not afraid to experiment, which can produce some beautiful and unexpected results. I liked the natural wood showing through on the burned piece, it gave it character, intentionally warping could produce some outstanding results, looking forward to joining you in your journey. Cheers!

Worked as a furniture designer/illustrator/draftsman for 24 years. At 50, it's time to start my DIY journey buying one tool at a time and making homemade ones.

I *gasped* when you poured in the black epoxy, but then realized after planing, brought the wood grain back.

    Cam,
I like this video and table just as much the 3rd time around. I've finally poured A round with wood actually I did #3 today. 14" mold for lazy susans. So far so good. Mainly, thanks to all your great instructions.
    As always, Thanks
