One of the most amazing stories I know about was of a sizeable group of Jews [Men, Women and Children] who hid underground in complete darkness for over a year and a half .......in Rumania if I remember correctly. Until today this feat holds the world record for such a triumph of existence and sheer will to live. Certain people would go out at night when possible to look for food and water but the majority never ventured outside for fear of being discovered and killed. At one stage the group was discovered and the 'friendly' locals tried to bury them alive by filling in that part of the cave system with dirt but being so extensive the system allowed the group to move elsewhere, lie low for some days and convince the locals that they had suffocated. People became so accustomed to the dark that even up to today as one 'then child' survivor stated when descending into the depths after 60 years or more: Aaaaaaaah..now I feel more at home".' At wars end the group came out of hiding and went about starting new lives far from the darkness and hatred.

Beautiful documentary, just one tip to the woman who is doing research: these people went through a traumatic experience and it's quite possible they don't want to be found and talk about that. They could be even dead.
Biographies and autobiographies of survivors tell of heroic people sneaking them food and/or the people who are hiding out sneaking out from their hiding places and scavenging or stealing food.
This is how Germans move forward. You move on by facing the past, reconciling previous mistakes and learning the lessons to not repeat them again. Philippines should learn from this especially that now we are about to elect the son of the Marcos dictator to the Presidency.
The Germans move forward because they survived a war they created and never had to pay for it because the US saw the bigger enemy in the Soviet Union and let all the Nazis live their life with their family. Germans git all the money and support from the US and they act like Nazis weren't their grandfathers.
You know nothing about German or European history. Germans moved forward by sweeping their crimes under the carpet. Germans never faced their past, they try to forget it. Germany never took responsibility for its crimes against the Polish people. Majority of Polish victims was never compensated by Germany. Germany enriched itself on the suffering of Poles. German companies exploited Polish people as slaves. Germans looted Poland stealing bank reserves, natural resources, artwork, private and state owned property. Today most Germans are completely unaware what their ancestors did to Poland.
I know people from the region around Gliwice/Gleiwitz but they were children then (born in the 1930s) I now wonder what they would have seen and comprehended then.
It’s not just German Historians who are prohibited. The Rightwing Government of Poland would like to wipe away the history of the Holocaust. Antisemitism in Poland is deplorable.
I was at the Warsaw cemetery when I went to Poland to see Auschwitz and other camps. At the cemetery, we were shown a hiding spot- if I rem correctly, it was a hole that lead to the sewars

So what? We're still rather peaceful and highly efficient. Looking for certain issues or conflict?
History is so important
Don’t ever give away hiding spots. Now these and others like them can’t be used again.
Very good surprising me love the info
Interesting video, I love history
What a fantastic, and extremely interesting documentary... I can't imagine hiding out in any of these places... just imagine how horrible it would be to be stuck in that beautiful tree for days or weeks on end =/ but I must add, as I'm sure many others have in the comments below... on a lighter note, I counted 9 or 10 different glasses, how about you? =) haha =P girl's got some style, that's for damn sure eh?
I couldn't help but notice the glasses as well:D
Thank you Natalia and DW for
Your interesting compelling work.
I feel so grateful,I didn’t have to
live or exist in those recent past
times.God watch over us all.
Some very Brave people saving lots of lives during Ww2...
The Holocaust was so Horrific..
So many Jews will be so thankful to have been saved...
These hiding places are so well thought out...
True Survival😘
Every Minority around the world can learn from the Jewish people on how to survive and make sure that your future generations do so.
Ummm, yea except so many millions didn’t. They can learn more by learning how this all happened in the first place
You should read about Jewish peoples more, like - the history and origin of this particular nation. If you study about Jewish history you may change your views and perspectives on them.
How?

Oyy veyyy
Absolutely fascinating research 👍
yeee ... God, how many have survived! ...
Never ever again. Remember the basic rule: if someone else is targeted, you could be next.
Yes just like what's happening to the Palestinians
Who's targetting the Palestinians?
@@4TheRecord
You dont know?
@@Tj-vf3ll Saying that we should never ever experience the holocaust again applies to all of humanity. Palestinians included. Caring for the Jews does not mean agreeing with what Israel does
@@eboyjim
Thats a laugh cos the world is silent about the Palestinian holocaust taking place today. Double standards serves a corrupted soul.
Sympathy is a card played so they can do the "necessary" evil taking place on occupied Palestine.
Justified by the holocaust?. Thats a sickman's mentality.
Thank you so much for your amazing and such an important work.
Unless we preserve what's left of the Jewish-Polish history and Holocaust, celebrate the Polish heroes and deal with the hidden untisemitism, we are at risk of repetiting the awful
discrimination and extermination of the nationsas it happens now in Ukraine.
Boring. Why talk about secret hiding places then barely show them.

Beautiful documentary, just one tip to the woman who is doing research: these people went through a traumatic experience and it's quite possible they don't want to be found and talk about that. They could be even dead.
Very likely they are dead or 100 years old.
What I would like to know is where & how these hiders found food & water?
Biographies and autobiographies of survivors tell of heroic people sneaking them food and/or the people who are hiding out sneaking out from their hiding places and scavenging or stealing food.
Those people who hid out did not survive not under those conditions. Chances are likely they were ratted out and caught.
Some people survived, not many but some always survived
And how exactly do you know it?
@P W yes, there are many autobiographies of survivors.
The graveyard she was standing beside had some little creature running, very fast, back and forth. I can't tell what it is...did anyone else see it?
Honestly why would u show secrets like this !!!
Ghastly times
a human is just a human
does not have any other names.
Cain killed his good brother with a rock 🪨
The Jews call the Palestinians "animals". It's a shame they don't respect the idea of Human just being Human.
In denmark almost every single jewish person got away to sweden.
Because there were few Jews in Denmark and nazi occupation of Denmark was soft.
That's one weird picture behind her at her desk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why are Germans not allowed the freedom to discuss this topic?
It’s not just German Historians who are prohibited. The Rightwing Government of Poland would like to wipe away the history of the Holocaust. Antisemitism in Poland is deplorable.
@@SeniorJohnQPublic 😂😂
Who says that they don't???
Where did you pick that up? The holocaust is extensively researched and remembered in modern day Germany!
Cant criticize the ones that control u dats why
great doc and fashion show i must say
That was very interesting in what people did to survive the horrors of war and ideology of hate
All people should be free from oppression and aggression. 🇺🇦🇵🇸🇺🇦
I was at the Warsaw cemetery when I went to Poland to see Auschwitz and other camps. At the cemetery, we were shown a hiding spot- if I rem correctly, it was a hole that lead to the sewars
Gliwice are near German border? A great documentary by the way.
It was back then, and on the German side.
Awesome!
Brilliant lady
Now Germans can visit the places their grandparents could not find.
😏 Evil... 😆
@admonster11, interesting way to think about it...
On one hand, it's important to know what happened...
On the other hand, there's still nazis around and I'm not sure it's a good idea to tell them where to look when it happens again
So much history
They should use this to find the mass graves.. 👀🙄
@Carlo 95 , shhhhh , it could be like when Geraldo Rivera did the few hours of live coverage to show the nothing burger in al Capone's safe lol ...
@Carlo 95 So the survivors, like my grandfather, just made up everything they witnessed?
