SPRAYING THE PORCH - First try with the Graco Ultra Airless

- Having done around half the trim in the house by hand and half sprayed, I still have a bit of a love hate relationship with spraying. However with 20 odd doors to restore soon I saved up and bought a more professional bit of kit for the job (£400!!!) 🙄. The porch seemed like a good place to test it out, even if it was just about the most awkward room you could think of! Wait for the next video where we will reveal how we did and whether it's worth the hassle or not.

Lots to learn on this one but a good start and really pleased with the result. Reveal video and feedback in the next episode. 👍
The Restoration Couple Hi Tim there didn’t seem to be much airborne paint. I’ve got an airless Wagner and it horrific for spray getting airborne. It does an ok job but you have to make sure “everything” including the kitchen sink has three layers of cover
Paul Thompson ill talk about it more in the next episode but yes there is a fair bit of overspray that lands as dust. Black worktops in the kitchen did not help matters!
that was cold to just cut us off at the end !!
I almost disliked the video because of that ending!!
You're the second CZcamsr I follow to release a video about a Graco paint sprayer today... what are the odds!
Great job, what pre-masked sheet did you use?
I bought one and have had mixed results from it. Some paints just won’t go thorough without regular blocking up of the tip. I’ve use a pop sock to filter the paint. You see a lot of horror stories about pumps dying really quick. Keeping the pump pressure low seems to help. I’ve probably put 200L of pain through my gun. I have found it uses an awful lot of paint compared to brushing/rolling.
Wow bold colour choice but glad it worked out ok, looks fab!
Wicked job keep up the excellent videos
Looking forward to seeing how the green works out as I need to get bolder in colour choices. Interested to now how you dealt with the shadow gaps with masking and spraying and finally would it be possible to provide links to the music you use as I was getting pretty chilled out listening to it but I imagine there are all manner of copyright issues though.
I really love you videos, however what was passing through my mind for the whole video was, was it really worth all that effort of masking up for such space, I really would struggle to justify it. I think I would be happy with a roller finish here.
What? No reveal? This is how you keep a Turkey in suspense. Bravo
Where did you get your graco sprayer?
Great work.
Could you spray Zinsser stain block?
I want battery version so I can paint anywhere and jot worry about a stupid plug. Worth it for me
Smooth 🏄♂️
Good luck 👍
Can you send a link to one with a Uk plug?
Great Job 👏👏👌🏻👍
Bigger cliffhanger than love island!
if you want to be serious about spraying get a t4 or a t5 from tritech , with the 210 and 310 fflp tips ,they will spray anything , kitchens ,fitted furniture , walls and ceilings the whole 9 yards , you might benefit from a spraying course
Hhhmmm goes for mdf to avoid shrinking but then uses a nasty ole pine architrave that’ll shrink more than anything other materials , awful product pine I refuse to use it anymore , good vid though I’ve been looking to get one I think you can get cordless that goes with my dewalt batteries ?
Cool!!
Did you treat the knots on your trim? I know a lot of people hate on spraying when rolling is technically quicker when you account for the prep time for masking up but I love the finish spraying gives. We're renovating at the moment and I bought a cheapo thing from amazon and it's quite bad. If I had the money I'd get a Graco too as I think the finish is worth the prep work. Good stuff though, look forward to seeing that finish.
Only knots were on the door lining, ran out of knotting so they were primed with BIN.
With the sanding time to get rid of the orange peel effect and the extra time masking and prepping do you think the gun is worth it?
Goodban17 at over £500 you need to do a lot of painting, great bit of kit but bloody expensive
I’ve watched various Peter Millard videos of him using his Graco without ‘orange peel’ effect
That was just user error. To be honest this was a pig of a project to start on and masking was more than usual. I’m pretty sure that when. I spray 10 doors at a time this kit will earn its keep. 👍
Yes! Uuuuurghhh! Now your just being a Paint Teaser!😂
You're going to do this live?! You're a brave man...
Just the video premiere don't worry.... That would be a long night!
Popcorn at the ready...
Hi Peter, I've seen a few of your videos since I did this, think we may have had a similar issue perhaps.
The Restoration Couple Hey Tim. Good vid - nice ending! Yes, I had a faulty tip from the start, caused me all kind of issues, but now resolved, thankfully. I have the UltraMax (brushless motor) but the tips are the same. Good piece of kit for small stuff like this - I’ve done full rooms with it too. 👍👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop I'm fairly sure I will use it on the odd ceiling but I know there is a limit to what this pump will do before replacement. I'm not sure tip was faulty, most likely user error, however overspray is just the nature of the beast I guess. Black granite worktops next door in the kitchen didn't help my case!
The Restoration Couple They are fantastic on ceilings, especially period properties with list of moulding / cornice, the finish is almost unreal. 👍👍
You should have applied knotting to the knots on the bare wood first to stop them bleeding through the finished coat.
Yes they were primed with shellac as ran out of knotting, your an see the white patches appear just before I sprayed. 👍
What is your day job?
0:47 - And that you did. But I was surprised you finished them off using a brush.
I suspect that you was using the wrong tip, for emulsion you would need a. 15 or a. 17 and the ultra is only really designed for touch up and it's not built for much more. And also you should of mentioned about paint injection and the dangers of it
You went through all that effort to get more sunlight into that little space and then painted it green,
and that ending boyo your gona get some hate for that bud
It's not really live it's just a live chat
If your trying to get it perfect use an led light after the first coat then you will see any dents or nicks.. or spray on a skim coat .if you do alot of painting get a proper machine
Have you considered battery converters - they clip on top of one manufacturer battery and convert the battery to work with another manufacturer - you can then use say a makita battery on dewalt tools, just an idea if similar problem crops up again. czcams.com/video/MMssklzoBAk/video.html
Pleased to see the drain pipe now boxed in.
Phbbbbbt!!!!!! Boo. There wasn't that much time left to prevent a reveal! Of course you have a family that would want to see it first.🤣🤣
You absolute stool...... LOL and that people is how to ensure you watch the next episode
You tease!
it was like watching paint dry!
No it was good really Tim, looking forward to the big reveal :)
LOL - you b*****d, just when it got to the good bit !!!
Seems an expensive bit of kit and alot of messing about masking up for not that much improvement on finish, I recon you could have got nearly as good a finish with a brush and roller in a third of the time, at a fraction of the cost. Sorry to piss on ya chips.
It was a pain of a job to be honest, with all that oak and glass to protect. That said it was a good trial run. I have around 20 doors to paint soon and pretty sure it will be more of a benefit and less of a hassle for that. Saturdays video will explain all. 👍
nasty way to end it
You little s... 💋
Should of took that masking tape of straight away good look taking all that of a day later 😑
By time u had masked everything up i could have rollered the lot, pointless.
15% Ginger- Beard Al. Would it be the same
Much of the masking would have been needed for brush or roller due to the shadow gaps. It was a bit of a pain and not the most suitable job for spraying, just more of a test.
MOUNTAIN OUT OF A MOLE HILL COMES TO MIND ALSO THIS GUNS HAVE A LIMITED LIFE TIME
I did dislike cause of the ending
Absolute waste of time spraying that tiny y area by the time u have masked set it all up in masked pit ya silly suit on I would have done it and be on 3rd beer , I have a sprayer but use it on fences and large areas by large areas I mean 10mx 15m ceilings which I have in my house , I also used my sprayer for my verandah 10m x 6m
Bro. Not subscribing just for the fact you cut me off at the end. Totally bummed. 😡😢😭 so cutthroat.
Wrong tool for the job. Motor won’t last 5 mins, only meant for touch ups/mist spots to save setting up your larger unit. should have bought gx21 for extra £200.
Pissed off ! Watch all way through and cliff hanger ..... just so you can get your monetising levels up ...not on !!!
Really? This is not something to get stressed about. Just watch the next episode. And if you don't wanna miss it, make sure you subscribe 😃
It’s just not edited yet and makes up per of Saturdays episode that’s all. 👍
@@TheRestorationCouple you should pull your finger out and get it all done, not just leave an ending like that. looks a good job thou
