This guy knows his Sh*t. Been building at home for 30 years. Very professional, fast, instructive. You know you have been doing it a while when you can look at a bolt and know what size it is. Beware, it is not that easy on the floor. This Gent has a lift, as so do I. Great video. Lucky, no heat or WD-40 and wait. Nice extension with the wrenches..lol. Every young Gear Head should watch this video as there are more tricks to the trade displayed here then all of the other videos I've look at.

@@klowny1969 I did and I'm a gearhead born in 65 who just retired and I am currently setting up my garage. I have had everything from lowriders with hydro's to 4x4's, motorcycles, and street rods. A poor man learns how to do things the right way. I still paint out of a 80's Devilbiss siphon cup. I even tie a rag around the top so it don't drip. Dam gun still sprays Candy like a dream. I need to get with the current times.

I’m in the process of installing this on my 79. I reused the half of the rag joint that was on the steering shaft because like you show in your video the splines don’t line up very well. I had to drill the bolt holes out just a bit so the collared bolts that come with the rag joint worked but I think this was a better way to go as I was able to slide the rag joint on the shaft which helped when bolting the rag joint together. I’m just waiting on a new pitman arm. I couldn’t get my old one off I tried but no luck ordered one from Zip Corvette hope this tip is helpful. Great video thank you for making it very helpful.

Plenty of professionals work on their cars. I’m a CPA I could pay someone too but I don’t want a slow Vette or surprises in a 50 y/o car. Maybe you should sell it to someone who knows what they’re doing before you get yourself hurt.

Thank you again for the awesome video! Install is done. Here's a helpful hint: On my car, the steering column/ shaft was not perfectly centered to the input shaft of the Borgeson box. It was about1/4" off, perhaps due to manufacturing tolerances in the box, the steering column, or the body . I loosened the steering column bolts (2 bolts under the dash, 2 nuts at the firewall) and there was enough play to achieve good alignment.

About to remove my original steering box and wore rag joint on my 1981 Vette; wondering how much more 'may' be involved and also with the "tapping-in of the steering column" 'if' there may be any issues on my 81 Tilt column if there are any internal components that may be of concern.

@@klowny1969 ... thanks for the feedback. I was leery of beating on the the column and I read somewhere someone had to 'cut' the excess off!
However a bigger problem... these kits are "out of stock"!
Today I directly called Borgeson and I appreciate their reps honesty.
The rep told me "Ray, it could take over 20 weeks until we get a bulk of Jeep cores in before we can make several kits up." They do a bulk of them at once, not just one, and there are no Jeep Cores out there.
I first called Summit, they 'kinda' lied to me stating "Borgeson makes those kits to order and that's why it could take a few-weeks" ... that was a lie.

Did your low pressure line leak at the box?. I used the same o-ring fittings 605sol and it leaked at the low pressure line. Appeared that the fitting bottomed out before the o-ring could seal.

Get yourself some good quality jack stands. I put two up front bear the rad support, two behind the front wheels near the front of the door and two in front of the rear wheels.
I'm doing mine right now and it's not so bad. I have everything apart now. You'll probably need a bottle of MAO gas to hit that pitman arm while pulling it off the old steering box. Mine has never been apart and that was the most difficult part.
The big came out easy from the top evenbwith side pipe headers, however I did pull the column out as it needed painted up badly, and I also had the booster and master cylinder out for replacement. The top two master cylinder nuts are character builders for sure.!

Installing this box on my 75. The instructions indicate to file a flat spot on the steering shaft where the rag joint lock nut contacts. Did you do this? My concern is that if I grind a flat spot, it will be impossible to get the rag join onto the splines of the steering shaft.
