    Nice video. I just got one a couple days ago with 55 lbs thrust. Used it twice and love it!!! I'm still trying to figure out if I can use cruise control (set a certain speed) and auto pilot at the same time.

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 4 lety +2

      Absolutely! I record my track at a high speed (typically 10) then after you re-establish yourself back on it either back where you just finished or if you manually go back to the beginning you can activate the auto pilot and then use any speed you like. I couldn't swear to it but I think when you activate it initially the motor will use the speed you recorded it on (in my case 10) but you can immediately decrease your speed as you would in any other situation appropriate for what you are doing and it should have no effect on the auto pilot.

    Great first name Evan👌
    The home button ….not sure how often people use it.
    The up and down lock system….is that function really needed?
    Do you really use the course tracking device with your trolling motor when
    your Nav system will do a better job.
    They don’t work the greatest in wind or chop.
    Be careful about going too skinny water…..you’ll get it stuck.
    If you fish from the stern you will get air suction from the spot lock.
    Me, I would rather use my power pole to anchor ……in shallow water.
    Thanks again

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 2 lety

      I need to invest in a power pole I believe, I agree completely that they would probably be a better solution for shallows. My powerdrive is not connected to my nav but I imagine that it is not used frequently by those who do have theirs connected. I personally haven't had an issue out of mine on windy days but that said the boat sits pretty low on the water and is already relatively light so the motor doesn't have to fight as hard as it would if it were on something with a larger profile.

  • @000distructzero
    @000distructzero Před rokem +3

    I echo what others have said here. Very good to the point information.
    My question would be in recording a track, can you record the track while using the boats outboard so it could be recorded more quickly?
    If so how fast could you travel the course and still have the path accurately recorded?

    • @jimbertels3356
      @jimbertels3356 Před 3 lety +1

      In that case you should have the Terrova. PowerDrive works with Pedal OR Remote, Terrova works with both simultaniously.

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 2 lety

      That would be a Terrova Model, Powerdrive models only allow either or, you can have both but you must disconnect the pedal to use the remote and at that point it becomes a hassle to try and make that work.

      To shut off the remote you push and hold the checkmark button for three or four seconds and "shutting down" will appear on the screen. It sounds to me like the motor is no longer paired to the remote. There is a set and sequence of buttons that can be pushed to unpair and re-pair the remote and motor but they are different based on which remote you have.

      @evanmattingly7234  Před 2 lety +1

      If you are in anchor mode and you press the anchor mode button again it will only release the boat from its current position. When I am ready to move on from wherever I am set up in anchor mode I personally kick it out by pointing the head in the direction I want to go and hitting the propeller button which will re-engage the motor at the last speed setting before you entered anchor mode.

    Nice video! One short question. Did the spotlock function a really good job? I read something like this that the boat are not holding the position. Reason-> missing Sensor on the other side from the boat.

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 2 lety +1

      It keeps me within about three feet of where I engage it, my only complaint it that the boat will sometimes rotate around the spot which isn't a huge issue for me but if you are dealing with current from one direction and wind from another it can lead to a lot of circles being made.

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 4 lety +1

      Mine isn't too loud but it is defiantly noticeable. I don't know if I said it in the video but I prefer to use it with a slight wind or current just so the motor is always running at a lower power setting. That keeps the motor from turning as much as it does in anchor mode in still water.

    @nickcosmopulos3592 Před 3 lety +1

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 2 lety

      This is the original motor for this boat, the install wasn't bad aside from the cheap hardware that came with the quick attach mount I bought separately. I personally have used exclusively remotes on trolling motors for about three years now and I strongly prefer them to the foot pedal. As far as frequently making adjustments it just depends on what I am doing and what the weather conditions are, when it is windy it requires more attention bus so to other models, overall I am highly satisfied.

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 3 lety

      I have only ever heard that they are not compatible. I had a problem of using the lanyard that comes with the remote and would end up taking it off in the house when I got home and would end up forgetting it the next day. I looked into getting a foot peddle for when that happened but all the research I did said I would be wasting money. I ended up getting the ipilot app for my iPhone and using it in those situations. The app is far from perfect but functions the same way the remote does so it works well enough for me.

      Without the electronics you can just steer it/set one direction with the remote. Anything done via GPS is done through your electronics

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 2 lety

      You can set a heading and record a path for later retrieving using the trolling motor independently. If you want navigation features like setting waypoints on a map for the motor to then take you to then the motor would need to be connected to your navigation system. You would be very surprised at all of the things that the Powerdrive with iPilot acting alone can do though, I personally do not have mine hooked up to an external navigation system and it works great for me.

    I'm actually looking at getting a boat a lot like yours very soon. I think from your other video, you are running a 12v trolling system. What's your runtime? Do you ever get low on juice or wish you went you went 24v for windy days?

    • @evanmattingly7234
      @evanmattingly7234  Před 4 lety

      ghost38901 I can typically get a full day (8 hours) without any loss of power at all actually. That being said I primarily fish lakes so it’s not really fighting much of a current. I have run out out a couple of times on super windy days when it is having to run at almost full power and change directions all day. On days like that it only lasted about 4 or 5 hours so there is a real effect by the wind. Personally I never had the need to do a 24v system the only reason I would even consider that is if I were going to be fishing rivers or traveling and doing overnight or multiple trips out without the capability to recharge.

      @@evanmattingly7234 ok thanks for the info. I'm torn on which way to go. I'm more of a river rat. I like to jug fish a lot, run throw lines and just anchor down and rod and reel for big cats. Even if I had a 24v system I'd still use a actual anchor instead of spot locking. Pretty much the only time I could see me using the trolling motor in the river is to either run throw lines by myself or chasing jugs down but even then in most cases while chasing jugs I'm going with the current not against it.

Appreciate your thoughts and hope this question isn’t too ignorant lol .

      The Powerdrive with iPilot is the cheapest one I have personal experience with and it is fantastic. Ive used a couple of the ocean models with the same feature before also and they work just as well. That being the case I would say any product that is equipped with iPilot would be a good choice. I know Motorguide has a similar option available on their "xi" series of products and they seem to run in the ball park of $700/$750 but I've never used them personally.

Anything over 20 mph sustained wind and you might start to drift a bit but at that point it’s probably not the best overall condition to be on the water anyway.

    I’m looking to install the same trolling motor on my 1860. What hardware did you use to secure the bracket to the bow? From what I can see there is no access to the underside, so bolts are out of the question.

The quick connect plate came with some self tap metal screws but they were complete junk I twisted two of them off so I ended up just drilling holes and running some standard screws and bolts from Lowes through there.
