@@DanBorens Both. Most head-chefs are like drillsergeants. However, there is a bit of tv-sauce over Ramsay's savageness.

@@DanBorens No definitive answer but quite often those shows fall somewhere in the middle. Producers push people to do certain things which in turn generate a reaction. Like telling a contestant in the dining room "If any customers complain, don't hesitate to send them to Ramsey". They know Ramsey hates being interrupted during service. And they give him carte blanche to react however he pleases. Without the producers, those people might not have dared go to the pass. Or had Ramsey had a great day or in a particularly good mood, he might have been more tactful. The producers spend their time setting up such little situations hoping they pan out for camera.
Hes tough on the chefs but he also protects them from spoiled customers.

Tbh if a contestant behaves like a kid he will be treated as a kid, not an adult. And Gordon saw this childish behavior in Matt, so he treated him like one. Making excuses is what kids do. Adults take responsibility.
Funny that before black jacket Matt vocally said "sorry chef", but after he often made excuses, like the infamous migraine thing and unable to feel his hands. Gordon was obviously sick of him and ejected him.

Corey calling a migraine a headache is so BS. Anyone that's ever suffered from a migraine can tell you that they are absolutely not the same. That said, he definitely should have taken some medicine for it before service if he wanted to work through it.
Yeah I go partially blind and I get confused to the point that I can’t speak, and my whole body goes numb combined with the crippling throbbing pain I’m also offended that she called a migraine a headache
@@Cloud777-7the partially blind thing is weird. I would start seeing stars and squiggly lines in my peripheral vision. Then tunnel vision would start until I could only see directly in front of me. Followed by vomiting and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. I’m so thankful I stopped getting them regularly.
I used to get migraines in highschool. It's a headache times 10!

I do like that he’s not unnecessarily mean to everyone who messes up. He tasted the bad risotto, gave his feedback (harsh but fair), said “calm down, start over, hurry up” and that was that. They had a bad start, but not bad enough he didn’t trust them to put their head down and fix it.

People who don't have migraines don't understand just how crippling they are. My wife has them. The pain isnt just in your head, it makes every nerve in your body so sensitive that even wearing clothes is physically painful from the contact. It also makes you incapable of forming even the most basic thoughts. I really felt for matt.
Completely correct, so many people use migraine as a synonym for headache but the experiences of the 2 are totally different.

He provided screen drama.
Producers probably told Ramsey to keep him on for as long as possible for the ratings.
For ratings, obviously, Matt provided drama to the season and one of the reason people tuned in so he was kept for a really long time until Ramsay eventually gave him the boot at final 6.

Compared to the current season, Ramsay was a lot more intense back then.
I can’t remember what season, I think it was 2, but a contestant shot themselves less than a year after being on the show. He was super tough on her and told her she would never have a restaurant above a fast food joint. I’ve noticed that since that season, he seems to have let up a bit on his contestants. Her name was Rachel Brown.
@@cigarettesandredlipsEver since Season 2, he became way tough and his peak happened throughout Season 3 to 10. Starting Season 11, you can hear his voice getting raspy and he becomes calm down.
And yes, the contestant was Rachel who unfortunately commited suicide after Season 2 ends due to the pressure of competition. Because of this circumstation, Ramsay decided to hire psychologists for any contestants who got eliminated to not feel the same as Rachel did
Gordon is not responsible for Rachel’s death.

Rachel had major problems prior to appearing on the show. Shooting yourself is an extreme situation. The show may have triggered something else that was going on but it shouldn't be held responsible for her determination to end her life.

That's not true either. Hot water evaporates faster than cold water. In both systems you can't just break the laws of thermodynamics. Think, what happens when the hot water gets to the same temperature as the cold waters starting temperature? Why wouldn't it take just as long to get the rest of the way to freezing like the water that started at that temperature?

i love how the show looks like a fancy kitchen and dining area. I used to deliver there, its a warehouse in the middle of a bunch of other warehouses in Culver City and in the middle of the nearly empty, dusty warehouse is a set with 3 propped up walls, for the kitchen and "dining area" then a set of folding bleachers on wheels. Looks so thrown together and makeshift.
