    Thanks everyone for commenting and contributing to the discussion! I’m pinning this to let everyone know I wrote this script before the custom levels were actively being added, so my points about the levels not being made for movement plus changes a lot when you introduce these new levels. I highly recommend movement plus if you play any of the custom sonic levels, they make it much more enjoyable!

    My thing is movement plus isn't necessarily a bad mod, it's definitely fun to fly around at top speeds. But I think the realism of the basic movement looks and sometimes feels better. It's all a matter of what you want your gameplay to feel like.

    I adore movement plus but I wont pretend that going from movement plus back to vanilla for whatever reason I may have doesn't induce at least brief growing pains trying to readjust to the slower, more laid back pace.
    Id recommend that (ideally) movement plus should only be installed AFTER beating the game for the 1st time (then never turning off unless you really wanna do activates online).

      I’ve tuned my configs to only be *slightly* faster than normal, but my max speed is set at 144mph (as opposed to around 60-80mph iirc), which can be achievable when boosting for a few seconds
      tech that can easily bump your speed is tuned down, same as or even lower than vanilla BRC (looking at you corner boosts) so the only consistent way to reach high MPH is to either boost, OR do movement techs consistently like frameboosting and the likes

    The only problem to me when i used it at first is how ridiculous is to exploit and farm speed, doesn't feel fulfilling, granted, if feels gifted like, precisely as you say, as a speed boost and it SHOULDN'T feel that way, you should ear speed by playing with the geometry of the game, not just by spamming boost tricks and jumping, there's no much challenge on that and to me personally, it's just no fun

And unfortunately I dropped BRC and went on to play Pseudoregalia, Spark 3 and the Rollin Rascal demo, which all have great momentum.

    @nx0_0x0 Před 5 měsíci +1

    This was a great analysis on the mod and the ideas you conveyed throughout the video are exactly what i think about how this mod completely changes the preception of new players on the game.
    I waited for brc for 3 years since they released the trailer in 2020 and when i finally got to play it, well i can definitely say the controls were not as i expected them to be in the first place but after i got the hang of them it was a pretty enjoyable experience, in fact i would say it's a step up from jsrf.
    I really have never seen a need to improve the core gameplay mechanics, but i can definitely understand that feeling of having run out of things to do and crave for something new, like a dlc or more movement options.
    What i really think is the problem here is not the newly added gameplay features but rather the speed is what's killing the way people view the game, brc was not designed to be like a sonic the hedgehog game, even though it would totally outperform it with the use of custom maps.
    And as for the community, i have never really seen anyone complaining about the mod at first when it first came out (speaking for my ignorance, i haven't join back in 3 or 4 months), but honestly i think this game's community is so much more chill than from other game you could find out there, i really haven't seen any drama on it and in general i think everyone here has been very respectful and cool, but everyone has to remember that everyone chooses how to play the game. You can always install and uninstall the mod, anytime, free of charge. And no one is gaining an advantage over it, it's just a different way of enjoying the game, just how Ultrakill allows you to use cheats if you really can't fathom the complex control scheme and the barrages of bullets coming right at you.
    I really appreciate that awareness is being brought into the matter with videos like this as i also think it's the best way to cut tensions between both sides and reunite the community again, as well as colectively look for a solution to how we should make use of this mod regarding how new players see it and how experienced players should use it as to not ruin the vanilla experience.
    Thank you so much for taking the time to read my comment and i apologize if i made any mistakes, i'm not very good at english lol
    TLDR: Game is great, mods are too. Play the game how you like the most :)

    Walljump I freaking love and feels like it should have been part of the game but it's also OP with the original design of the game so I think in general yeah these mods "ruin" the original experience and you should wait until you have played most of the game vanilla/beaten it

    I was someone who played vanilla JSR and some of JSRF and absolutely loved those games. coming from those to BRC was soooo enjoyable, because it was a nice and clean transition from the controls that even expanded upon mechanics. This all being said, I was also one of the people who was exposed to movement plus before playing the game, unaware it was a mod.
    While it was a let-down to know the high speed movement i was a little starry-eyed about was from a mod, i still to this day find myself playing more with the vanilla movement. Again, as a previous JSR player, these limited controls make for some satisfying strings when pulled off. For me, theres something to appreciate with the limited-ness of it all.
    Movement plus is simply an add-on to me. It doesn't detract from the original game, because i'm still able to love and appreciate how vanilla movement ties the game all together. Movement+ is simply a new way to experience everything.
    It's not a sentiment i've really heard myself, but it does dishearten me to think that others can have their experience ruined from the existence of a mod when the original game still is wonderful in its own right.

    I think - pardon the pun, this mod might....
    Shape, da future.
    I have a feeling that if one of the game devs of BRCF played this, and if we ever got a BRCF2, they'd probably be like "this is garbage" when they first play movement plus but then when they go back to the main game - like you said, they might find the game too slow.
    This sort of thing happened with Street Fighter 2 when Rainbow Edition hit the market, and it's a reason why turbo exists. I'd imagine hypothetically if we were to get BRCF2, there could be a "jetpack booster" upgrade that could be toggled to give an experience closer to movement plus. Maybe. Thats wishful thinking I guess

    I'd been waiting for BRC since around the first trailer, and when I realized that the game was as slow as it was, on top of having no wall running, or at the very least wall _planting,_ I refunded it. After getting it on sale a few months later, I got some mods my friend recommended me, movement plus and wall plant included. I never looked back. I've heard one of the biggest complaints about movement plus being how easy it was to build speed but, for me at least, it's never been an issue. Of course it's gotten easier as I've gotten better but I've never found a truly solid way to instantly gain a burst of speed like I see some people do.
    The only problem I ever had with MP was the fast fall which felt a little intrusive in my parkour/slide based gameplay, so I disabled it pretty early on. Maybe that's why I can't build speed so fast? Regardless MP really has become the only way to play for me, and I'm glad I played through the entire game that way. Wall plant made the experience a lot more enjoyable too, I seriously can't fathom the reason as to why it isn't isn't a base feature. Sure it lets you skip some things or avoid intended routes, but isn't carving your own path what parkour games are all about?
    Honestly, I think BRC would be a much better game if some of the levels were a little more open, the speed was a good bit higher, and there was more depth to the tricks and parkour. Movement Plus is awesome but I can understand why some people don't want to use it- the game straight up just wasn't built for it. That idea of building and carrying momentum, though, is so satisfying and leads to such fantastic and emergent gameplay, that I don't really understand why BRC didn't lean into it a little more.

    But in this game, I always felt that achieving a nice flow with the moveset you have was the most fun part. Managing boost, tricks and even rail corners all contributed to a very fun sense of flow that made you feel quick, but not over-powered. Movement plus just kinda makes you skip everything. And it can be fun for a while, but gets shallow very quickly as insane amounts of speed are super easy to gain.

    So I'm making this comment as an addendum to my previous one, I gave Movement+ a go (minus the wall plant and fast fall mod), and found out that there are settings to make the movement similar to vanilla. It did things like reduce how much speed you can accumulate and such, I'm not sure of all the intricacies. I think it functions as a good middle ground. I really like the sense of building speed and like having to worry about slopes that will either build up/decrease my speed. However, I'm not really a fan of how it feels like the combo system suffers. Not a huge fan of how difficult it is to accrue score and multiplier. Feels like leaning into rail turns is just to gain speed rather than combos. And frankly, I don't think the game's maps support the level of speed super well. Things are too condensed for you not to loop in on the map. Which is why I think the perfect use for Movement+ is custom maps. I absolutely loved how much speed I was able to get in maps like Emerald Coast and Metal City, as these maps let you both get speed and have the area that lets you move fast.
    To be honest, what I feel could improve Movement+ exponentially would be an option in-game to either enable or disable it when the time needs it. It'd make it so much easier to participate in Score Battles/Races as well as to have the option to really move on larger custom maps. I'm unsure if such a thing could even be possible, nor if the mod creator is willing to look into it but I really think that a way to get the best of both worlds.

    My biggest issue with it is definitely how crazy fast the game gets and how the maps just don't accommodate for it.
    Besides, I like how BRC feels like a more refined and tigher JSRF, the massive changes just transform it into a completely different beast, which I don't like.
    I like to use it on big custom maps, tho.

    While the vanilla gameplay focus more on maintaining the combo Movement plus rather focuses on the "keep the momentum" stuff.
    I really like the movement plus but i still feel that could coexhist with another mod that could focus and expand on that "keep the combo" design philosophy.

    Just so everyone knows, the modder who created this mod also made a "vanilla friendly" version of it. It's faster than the vanilla game but definitely not as crazy as the default mod.
    If it can helps. Also been using the mod for a while but I kind of like the fact that even with the "crazy" version of the mod, you have control over your speed, you can basically stay "slow" if you don't hard corner or frameboost too much.
    Still, I think the Vanilla friendly version of the mod is better, as you can still enjoy the level design as it was intended.

    I've been playing with default settings and I generally enjoy it, except carpet sliding. That specific part is genuinely just a speed hack on default settings (and it totally ruins the carpet slide race track in Millennium Mall). Haven't tried tweaking anything yet, I'm sure my experience will be much better once I get around to that

    • @sip9549
      @sip9549 Před 2 dny

      movement+ carpet sliding speed boost starts to make alot more sense when you realise a ton of maps actually have these spots, even in the hideout
      id say all the base game stuff is not ideal to play with movement+ cus it was designed without it in mind, but its great when you wanna get really involved with the mechanics

    I have been using the mod since release and I'm considering on disabling it.
    While it's a fun mod, it does disrupt the big mod that connects us Sloppy players together.
    I think that after a while, I got tired of being fast and I just like to chill.

    Yes it does, it ruins the game, it ruins the core concepts of the game, it ruins the level design of the game, it ruins the entire kit of abilities you have bc it's just so overly reliable, it is by all means a terrible addition to the game, doesn't mean people can't have fun with it, if they do, that's fine, but just know that it is not, by any means, a well thought out mod at all

  • @bunshine

    as someone who hasnt played the game, it seems like the most ??? mod out of all of them. it *is* just a speed hack essentially, every time i see it it makes it less interesting. those high speeds arent as cool when you can just get them really easily

    ill probably try movement+ again since it does look like a genuinely cool experience, but i did not like it at first LOL the speed looked and felt awkward in maps that are too cramped for it. the windmill area in pyramid hill is like, a perfect use of movement+, i think custom maps with more open areas/larger maps would make it feel/look better to me personally. but wouldnt i bash anyone who uses it .

  • @terminallystill
    @terminallystill Před 5 měsíci

    I think with a lower movement speed, movement plus would be welcome on my mods list. Yes, it is very manageable with the speed it currently functions at. But the game upon release really felt more about flow than just zip zoomin everywhere on the map. But combine a more flowy speed with the current trick mods and whatnot, think it'll be something gold.
    Add a variable slider for how fast you want the character to move. Easiest solution. Not everyone wants to go fast.

    I like the down boost and wall jump. I feel like that should have been in vanilla. I will say I am one of the people who was gaslit by people using this mod "what 200hrs in bomb rush looks like." And it was a Hatsune Miku whizzing around the map at breakneck speed. I got the game and got the Miku mod and played vanilla all the way through. I prefer the chill gameplay, but movement plus is definitely really cool on some custom maps.

  • @SoapChill
    @SoapChill Před 5 měsíci +1

    I think it absolutely does.
    Traditionally in video games, classic nes/snes/genesis era games denoted items with a + sign to show the player that it was better than the original NON + item/thing.
    Movement PLUS doesnt do that. Why do i think that? Mainly because it doesnt work in the sandbox that its in. Just going fast isnt enough .
    If movement plus was a mod that added a slew of individual features that moved the needle further in overall movement not just make it go faster. Then this would be a different conversation.
    However, every single video ive seen of this game that has movement plus js just a dude going so fast that they can barely control their character and as a viewer you barely see what is happening.
    A real movement plus would be like the differences in traversal from spiderman 1 to spiderman to. The new ps5 games that is. A good example of evolution of traversal.
    If they evolved the traversal like that. Id be on board

  • @ego709

    very good video! only gripe is that it seems a bit silly that even after you specifically noted you can change the speed and settings in pro #3 the literal first entry in the cons list is "it's too fast" lol
    now I've never used the mod personally, but my answer to the question posited in the title and video is still a no.
    I've noted my opinion on con #1 already, and I think the only actual valid downside on the list would be con #2 since that's is actually something caused purely by the environments not being meant for the mod's added functionality. #3 is less a con of Movement Plus and more an incompatibility issue on the other mod's part, though not for invalid reasons as M+ would give an unfair advantage against vanilla players. #4 is also not a fault of M+ because communities split on silly things all the time lmao, really it's more a problem of people's perspective than a fault of the mod. #5 is a close second for most valid concern, but imo that's still a fault of creators not labeling their mod usage and people not looking into the game any further before buying it.
    as I said before: overall great video. very solid in terms of editing and ideas. I do think most of the cons weren't really things that are faults of the mod and only served to unnecessarily pad out the cons column, but that didn't detract from my enjoyment much at all. keep up the great work on your videos and thanks for the entertainment!

      Thanks for the comment. I could have been more concise with my points, i agree with you there. I tried to present the cons in a way that an average person who didn’t know much about the mod might think. A first time user might not know it’s customizable and just assume the mod is only fast. I also agree that it’s not necessarily the mod’s fault for creating a divide, more of a personal thing as you said. Either way it’s still a catalyst for some people to feel that way. Appreciate the compliments!

  • @feder28
    @feder28 Před 5 měsíci +1

    It turns the game into a different game. Which some people may like, some may not. For one, though, the vanilla locations surely aren't designed for those amounts of speed, so that's one thing you could say "ruins" the game if you are using that mod. But not the mod itself.

  • @ZackFair78
    @ZackFair78 Před 5 měsíci +1

    I think overall it does ruin it but I also think it's fine to mess around with once you're done with everything and just wanna mindlessly run everywhere and essentially skip over level design.
    That being said some stuff like wall jumps and floor slam etc I think are fine because they kinda just give you more stuff to work with while not removing the core of the intended gameplay but the speed and added jump height are what truly ruin the proper experience.
    I think modding it enough to make it like a tony hawk game would be a perfect balance of added freedom and intended gameplay

  • @Zetagipp
    @Zetagipp Před 5 měsíci +1

    I don’t like bounce, its more fun to play for momentum then use rail inclines for big jumps

  • @heyhackurs
    @heyhackurs Před 5 měsíci +1

    i stopped using for three reasons: online activities such as combo battles, it being unusable (well impractical i guess) on some great maps like sony hawk, and because when you do slides on the intended slide areas it goes ballistically fast which can be a bit annoying at times when you want more control. its a fantastic mod though and adds so much depth alongside wallplant and bounce that i almost feel bad when i do turn it off, but sometimes the trade off (especially the first two points) is too much for smaller maps and online combo battles. i do use it when im already familiar with a map though

    Personally I dont see anything bad with it, It's just that its simply too overpowered for the base game maps. for bigger custom maps, it fits right in.
    For example it breaks the mall's design easily, but say the Grand Metropolis mod from Sonic Heroes, its perfect.

    Movement plus doesn't ruin the game, it just doesn't appeal to a lot of folks. A lot of the people i see using the mod like blasting off at super speed, and to me I feel like i'm missing most of the level and experience if i'm just zooming through.

    As a giant momentum addict, I have to say yes.
    I don't only use MovementPlus; I use the no speed cap mod too. So it's double the fun.
    Playing the base game is like how people describe playing a 60 fps game on Switch. Although I never really complain about it,.
    I loved the base game on day 1, but once these mods entered the picture it became a different game for me.
    The number 1 thing that was ruined was definitely combat. Movementplus' combat giving me more momentum sold me on this.
    I doubt I'll ever enjoy base again due to it, but hell this may convince Team Reptile to focus more on momentum in a sequel.
    But even then, the modding community will go crazy with that as well.
    On a side note, I have a similar issue with Sonic 3 Air, I use the Sawnick mod way too damn much base game is like playing with a giant lag spike in comparison.
