What Happened to 4KIDS?
4kids was a American licensing company. The company was previously also a film and television production company that English-dubbed Japanese anime through its subsidiary 4Kids Productions between 1992 and 2012; it specialized in the acquisition, production and licensing of children's entertainment around the United States.The first anime that 4Kids Productions dubbed was the first eight seasons of Pokémon that aired on Kids' WB! in the United States. The company is most well known for its range of television licenses, which has included the multibillion-dollar Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh! Japanese anime franchises. They also ran two program blocks: Toonzai (originally The CW4Kids) on The CW, and 4Kids TV (originally FoxBox) on Fox, both aimed at children. The 4KidsTV block ended on December 27, 2008; Toonzai/The CW4Kids block ended on August 18, 2012, which was replaced by Saban's Vortexx, which in itself was succeeded by Litton's One Magnificent Morning in 2014.

As a kid I enjoyed 4kids and would always look forward to the next Saturday to see my favorite cartoons. Now that I'm a young adult, I cringe at alot of the stuff they've done. For instance on sonic x how they always played rouge's cringy theme *EVERYTIME* she got screentime. Also I'm not sure if you do but remember rollbots?

I still wished 4Kids have made the whole complete DVD collection of Winx Club, TMNT 2003, Sonic X, Ultimate Muscle and the rest of the series back then before it was shut down forever because release one or two DVD with a few episodes is not enough and I prefer the whole complete seasons collections.
Welp. Mew Mew Power is coming back in 2022. So im kinda curious if they going to eng dub the 26 Episodes of the show. As well as Sonic Prime in 2022. And for the other shows. Well. Hope for the best.

Well Nickelodeon/Viacom( the owner of Nickelodeon) owns the rights to the TMNT franchise but not sure about the others. I know Pokémon shows and movies is own by viz media. Funimation own the rights to one piece since 2007. Yu gi oh is Konami. And not sure about others. Over all 4kids was shady but underrated and still provided the U.S audiences anime. It was the closest thing to toonami.
Rip in pieces, thankfully 4kids didn't handle my country dubbing and licensing stuff, otherwise back then we might gotten censored stuff all over the place.
As of 2022, all the 4Kids anime, including Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Sonic X, have been scattered everywhere on all streaming services, including CZcams.
4kids might have introduced most people to anime and hardcore cartoons, but they’re also hated because of poor business practices.

4KidsTV only aired one hour of E/I programming for the duration of its run, with Cubix and Magical DoReMi being the only two programs to be edited in order to adhere to this rule. Winx Club was also considered to be an E/I program for its first three seasons, and ran until the block closed in December 2008. Following the acquisition of Winx Club by Nickelodeon, the program ceased to be an E/I program, although it was later retooled to target preschoolers. The big three networks began airing network supplied E/I programs in 1997, and although CBS relied on animation for at least ⅔ of its Saturday morning block between 1997 and 2013, all of its programs were E/I compliant. Of the three blocks that CBS aired during that time, its block with DIC (later Cookie Jar) was the longest; it was tailored toward females aged 6-12 for its first three seasons before being refocused to serve a 10-13 year old audience for its last 4 seasons.
This is my opinion, 4kids was not that bad then how people make it, Sure their dub on One Piece was awful, But their other dubs were always great, not perfect, but I always had a fun time with them.
Besides, without them, the Pokémon anime wouldn't have come to the west
Actually they weren’t that bad at all. Actually One Piece wasn’t their decision to begin with even they didn’t wanted to, but Toei forced them to do it or else they will much big problems. And the editing the anime wasn’t their fault when it originally network restrictions laws to make it work on Saturday Morning Cartoon in America.

7:04 Perhaps the main reason as to why Pokemon's popularity may have been waning during this time was the low quality of the games and TV series during the time. Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were some of the weakest titles in the franchise and the show had very subpar quality(Both with and without 4Kids).

Man, I stopped watching 4Kids back in 2009 when my friends back in middle school told me about it. I was getting into anime but 4Kids had to ruined great animes. I had to rewatch it in Subs now.

Informative, and...I only cared for the FoxBox. By the time it was assimilated into 4Kids TV, I knew it wasn't the same, and when F-Zero GP Legend got canned too soon in spring 2005, I just bailed! But, I've seen DBZ Kai on Toonzai...and it flopped! I'll always remember 4Kids for their early, caring years w/ Pokémon, Yugioh, Kirby, and F-Zero, but that's it. Also...Media Mementos did a History of 4Kids too around the same time as u did. Coincidence? Idk.

I remeber getting up early with my brother on Saturdays to watch 4kids tv. Would watch some sonic x, dragonball z kai, and yugioh. I probaly saw other cartoons maybe an episode or two just probaly forgot. But I Would mostly watch for yu-gi-oh! My brother and I always made sure to get our yugioh cards with us whenever we were watching.
Children in Los Angeles watched it on KTTV.
Children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area watched it on KDFI.
Pokemon, Winx Club, Magical Do-Rey-Mi, Sonic x, Kirby, Mew Mew Power, One Piece, and The Ninja Turtles were my jam when I was a kid. Thanks for adding that clip at the end, I thought that it was a very nice touch

people can dis 4kids all they like, they did a way better job English voice acting for animes then any other company's including Funimations boring English one piece dub.

While I don't like 4kids, and I think their dubs sucked, even compared to some fan dubs. If it wasn't for them I probably would have never, had found anime, even if at the time I didn't know what anime was because they never specifically stated that the shows were anime, and I never heard of anime before looking up episodes of these old shows on my first laptop I got in 2016 (Before anyone asks anything I was a 2000's kid, I was just somewhat sheltered from this information because I didn't have a proper internet connection in my home until 2015, because my family has always been somewhat poor, but I'm just glad that I have the luxuries that I do have now. I also didn't watch most of their shows on TV, I actually watched most of them through the DVD releases).

I cannot express how glad I am that people started to upload the original japanese anime episodes to CZcams back in 2007-2010. This way we could see how trash this company was in handling their license products. I am so glad that they are now dead.
PS. Most of those youtubers got striked by DMCA, but there still some remnants like Yugioh Season 0.

Tzunamii you forget that toonami is mostly the main reason we got into anime. Yes 4kids did there part I like it to but hated the editing especially one piece and for pokémon I don't know why they need editing or censoring if it's already a kids show. But I do miss it.

screw 4kids I never liked it the enemies yes but the way they were talking the way they were speaking it was not right in fact it didn't make sense little kids back in the time and yeah we want to have fun and enjoy what we like to see but now that we're older we're like adults now and we realize that some of the anime didn't quite make sense like if some of you are Yu-Gi-Oh fans I searched up on CZcams and I found the original scene about the dueling monsters and how they were how they dressed I found the original and I couldn't believe my eyes that what I just saw if they ever like make an original Yu-Gi-Oh this time I want the original scene and the original words of how it is on the original one and I want the original story of how they were speaking but now that we have like Netflix Hulu and other apps maybe they can put those there and we can see the actual story but if they have it on Crunchyroll then I will check I still like some of the shows today but they're not as great anymore they're kind of boring
