Great song great gig. I was their sound engineer on that tour, that memorable night at Hammersmith Odeon and still have the recording from the mixer. A real goosebumps moment when the crowd sang LOUD, so David extended that part another 16 bars....magic.
The double album is a combination of two concerts . Track list is nearly perfect . The line up was the best ever . I love it. One of my all time favourites. !

But when he says "sing for me, London, sing" is one of the most memorable r'n'r moments I remember since the first time I've heard this song on the radio 40 yrs ago
I had 12, when I got this cassette, now I have 43, and my opinion is exactly the same. This was the love at first hearing, and it will last 'till the end!
if you didnt produce a tear hearing this you arent right. Thank you Mr Coverdale for everything from the deep purple to whitesnake pipes . God gave us all a gift with your talent.
My mate and I went to the Bournemouth show, 6.11.'78, because we were Purple fans and wanted to hear the DP Mk.3/4 tracks we'd read they played. This song, though, completely new to me, haunted me after the show, left a deep emotional impression. Might Just Take Your Life and Mistreated were of course great - and Trouble, Lie Down and co. too - but this sad song reminds me most of losing my rock'n'roll virginity.
Excelente Pieza.... De los pocos covers que superan al original... El Solo de guitarra final ejecutado por el Sr. marsden es un Orgasmo. JAMAS VOLVERA A CREARSE MUSICA ASI.
Man, I was about 11 when I bought this album in a second hand record store - I'm 51 now. I still have it. Absolute classic. Dave's voice may be fucked now, but man did he live it. I'd go to see him again knowing he can't sing like that anymore but at least he does it live and doesn't mime like all the other metal and hard rock bands out there do now - ahem, Halford.
Ain't no love in the heart of the city, Ain't no love in the heart of town. Ain't no love, sure 'nuff is a pity, Ain't no love 'cos you ain't around. Baby, since you been around. Ain't no love in the heart of the city, Ain't no love in the heart of town. Ain't no love, sure 'nuff is a pity, child Ain't no love 'cos you ain't around. Every place that I go, Well, it seems so strange. Without you love, baby, baby, Things have changed. Now that you're gone Y'know the sun don't shine, From the city hall To the county line, that's why Ain't no love in the heart of the city, Ain't no love in the heart of town. Ain't no love, sure 'nuff is a pity, Ain't no love 'cos you ain't around. Every place that I go, Well, it seems so strange. Without you love, baby, baby, Things have changed. Now that you're gone Y'know the sun don't shine, From the city hall Woman, to the county line, an' that's why Ain't no love in the heart of the city, There ain't no love in the heart of town. There ain't no love, sure 'nuff is a pity, Ain't no love 'cos you ain't around. There ain't no love in the heart of the city, There ain't no love in the heart of town. Ain't no love, sure 'nuff is a pity, Ain't no love 'cos you ain't around, 'Cos you ain't around.
Recuerdo esto, mucho después en los 80, escuchando radio, en esa época, cuando todos andaban con el Iglesias, el Cotugno y tantas otras grasadas.... en Argentina había un espacio de ROCK para volarnos la cabeza.
I bought this album when it first came out but I have one HUGE ISSUE with the album. The issue I have is this isn’t the version of this song that was on My cassette whenever I bought it. My question is - How many versions of this song was recorded during this tour and how many versions were put on the same album??? Did they say - On the first 200 albums will have this version and the next 200 will have this version and the rest will get different versions of Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City.
The 1987 album was actually great. But, what happened? He got rid of the band that created it. I mean... Sykes, Murray and Ainsley Dunbar of John Mayall and Frank Zappa fame... Instead, he got in a bunch of... well... you know...
Great song great gig.

magic indeed..........
The double album

Track list is nearly
perfect .
The line up was the
best ever .
I love it. One of my
all time favourites. !
Martin Fisher You’re a lucky man.
It's almost like religious moment
The first time it happened was on the first night of the tour at Newcastle City Hall when the audience took over.
Maybe no love in the heart of the city, but the bass is the heart of the song.
Hands down the best song WHITESNAKE ever recorded, and they recorded some of the best ever, and this is the best version they ever did.

Sing for me London, sing !!! What a wonderful and powerful version of that song. Belongs to the soundtrack of my youth
Mine too…
from track to track, one of the most eminently satisfying live rock albums of all time......
nailed it . You know your shit.
randall blakely definitely agree
Absolutely spot on.
One of my all time favourite albums and my favourite Whitesnake album.
"Sing it beautiful..." Just love it when *David* sings that!!!
So right.
Yesssssssss
But when he says "sing for me, London, sing" is one of the most memorable r'n'r moments I remember since the first time I've heard this song on the radio 40 yrs ago
Radio Beograd 202? 🙂
being there - this call out resonates
Who needs Whitesnake when you can have the Hammersmith Choir?
I think you're sitting upside down like Mork from Ork. It's the other way around of course...
This is the best Whitesnake line-up! :D
I had 12, when I got this cassette, now I have 43, and my opinion is exactly the same. This was the love at first hearing, and it will last 'till the end!
dragan70dragan yes!
Mid 50s now. A kid when this came out. Still goosebumps when I hear this.
I had the double album as a young teen and loved it so much. Rock on. 56 soon!
David "Sing for me, London, sing..." Coverdale / the audience & Bernie Marsden / Mickey Moody ... 2 duos which really works. At least in '78...
SIMPLY MY FAVORITE LIVE ALBUM , EVER !!!
I bought tjis LP when I was 14. Now I have almost 44 years and still hear him. This is one of the best rock albums ever recorded in living
best voice i have ever heard
if you didnt produce a tear hearing this you arent right. Thank you Mr Coverdale for everything from the deep purple to whitesnake pipes . God gave us all a gift with your talent.
In rememberance of Bernie Mardsen. You and The Beast (his 1959 Les Paul) will not be forgotten by those of us who knows!
The original guitarists Bernie Marsden and Mickey Moody, this version of the band was the best.
Sooo right.
(Mr B).Would give one of my fingers to have seen the Moody, Marsden, lineup, but Lord, Powell and Galley didn't disappoint. Hammy Odeon , London.
Jane Baldwin
Galley was great
John Lord (R.I.P.) & Ian Paice not forget.
My first acquisition. Superb album. Bought in 1984 and today its 40th year.
This album was huge back in the day!
Cornwall Colosseum, amazing show, my ears needed 3 days to recover
I was there when they recorded this. Fantastic live band

that bass
Yes. As a wannabe metal bassist in the 80s Neil Murray opened my eyes. Loved John Deacon, Flea, but he was the best.
Fernando Schuindt niell Murray
Absolutely fantastic BASS!!
David Coverdale and that bassist killed this
May the best live album ever in my opinion. SALUTE FROM NORWAY✊✊✊✊
I love this song.
You are not alone !!!
This song is so beautiful, I cant even explain...sometimes I listen to it 10 times on repeat ❤

Now that you're gone
Y'know the sun don't shine,
From the city hall
Woman, to the county line, an' that's why
Ain't no love in the heart of the city,
There ain't no love in the heart of town.
There ain't no love, sure 'nuff is a pity,

Mela koteluk
Back before Coverdale turned them into a bunch of Journey wannabees
+Larry Mccarty you mean when Coverdale prolonged his career for a few more years?, i like both eras
The 1987 album was actually great. But, what happened? He got rid of the band that created it. I mean... Sykes, Murray and Ainsley Dunbar of John Mayall and Frank Zappa fame... Instead, he got in a bunch of... well... you know...
Tommy Aldridge was the only bestest one of them lot
Bullshit, Whitesnake does not sound like Journey.
@@ankihansen2489 Well said Cranki.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
