This video is about what to avoid if you have lupus. I go over 10 foods we should avoid and explain why these foods are harmful to us. I also offer 4 additional bonus tips on what to avoid. Have you tried eliminating anything from your diet to reduce lupus or autoimmune flare-ups?
Yes, total charge in my intake. I lost 35 lbs with 6 mo. That was definitely for the best , I was nearing 165- 168lbs. Although quite physically active , I ate at Wendy's everyday, Drank a grande grande every morning.
Ive had lupus sle for 45 years and what puts it in remission is avoiding stress. Period
It's amazing how stress can affect our health. Wishing you continued strength in managing your condition.
Thank you for making this video. I was diagnosed with lupus back in 2000. I was 18 years old. My rheumatologist put me on Plaquenil, which is a common drug used to treat lupus. I was on Plaquenil for about 15 years when researchers learned that long term use of Plaquenil could cause eye damage. My rheumatologist started requiring and eye exam before he would refill my prescription. This potential side effect really worried me because I already had bad eyesight. I made the decision to wean myself off the Plaquenil and change my lifestyle. I learned that I was gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant, so I cut those out of my diet. Diabetes runs on both sides of my family, so I have greatly reduced the amount of sugar in my diet. I go to the gym at least twice a week a do a weight routine to stay toned and healthy. Between my diet and exercise I have ALMOST eliminated flare ups. I do still occasionally have a flare up. Sometimes it's one of those small annoying ones and there still has been a few instances of larger ones. I have learned over the years that even though I still have flares, they are far fewer and shorter than they used to be. I strongly agree about finding out about your bodies food sensitivities and adjusting your diet. I also strongly recommend some form of exercise whether it be yoga or weights. Having my body be in shape and in good health is what keeps the few flares that I have short, because my body is better prepared and equipped to handle them. There is no easy solution or quick fix when you have lupus. You do have to find what works for your body and tailor your lifestyle to fit. It is constant work, and sometimes hard work, but completely worth it.
Thank you for sharing your journey with lupus. Your determination and lifestyle changes are truly inspiring.
I'm 71 years old I was diagnosed with lupus when I was 40. I'm very interested in the food connection with lupus. My doctor kept saying don't eat this don't eat that don't eat this. Finally one day I asked him what am I supposed to eat. He looked over his notes and ask me well what did I tell you not to eat. I started going through the list. Pretty soon he realized you basically had me on no food. I still am having terrible flare-up s. Being a lupus patient means moderation. The bottom line is there is no way to avoid flare-ups. The older you get the harder it is. God bless everyone.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience 💜
I have mixed connective tissue disease. I have Lupus, Scleroderma, fibromyalgia, and more. Im a disaster zone working on my self daily. It always good to meet others who can help you and you help them with ideas. Blessings to everyone 🙏
Sending you love and light. ✨💜✨
I was told I have an autoimmune disease 15 years ago and not one doctor cared to help me with this. I have seen several doctors and I felt they weren't interested in my issues.
One doctor told me there wasn't anything wrong with me even though I could hardly walk. I found another doctor and finally she did care about me and my lupus, so I hope to get better soon.
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles with finding the right doctor, but I'm glad you finally found someone who cares about your health.
I was diagnosed with Lupus 30 years ago and RA about 10 years ago. I’ve been in remission from both through dietary changes for about 4 years. Eliminating all bovine products was key for me. Gluten, soy, refined sugar and were also very effective. My main source of animal protein is fish, with occasional poultry.
Not everyone has the ability to grow their own garden, but if it’s possible, I recommend it! Fresh produce is always best! Same with poultry and eggs. If you can’t do this for yourself, take a ride through the countryside and look for someone who has extra for sale. You will make a new friend and feed yourself better!😉
Are you able to tolerate nuts or seeds?
@@hfaith81 Yes, I can, thank goodness! But I’m cautious about it. Everything I can have is in moderation.
Our bodies are strange and marvelous things. We have a love/hate relationship with ourselves from one moment to the next it seems. And our goal is to make it mostly love.😉 By whatever means necessary 💕!
It's amazing to hear about your journey to remission through dietary changes. Your advice on fresh produce and building connections is invaluable!
Just got diagnosed last week and your channel has been the best thing I discovered
Welcome aboard!
Diagnosed a few weeks with lupus which is a bit rare in my case as I am a man.

Love the tip on eliminating food for a month to determine trigger. I have had to reduce sugar. Stevia works well for me.
That's great to hear. It's so important to find what works best for your body. Thank you for watching and being here!
Great video. I just found out I have Lupus! It has been a long 4 year battle to figure out what is going on. I been so sick. Spicy foods, caffeine, energy drinks, and sweets are a huge trigger. I had a food allergy test done and I think anyone with Lupus should get done. The foods I was allergic to were triggers to my flare ups. Also, a regualr allergy test showed me what other things I am allergic to and now that I know it helps with avoiding those things like cats, pollen, ext. I now get allergy shots and they been helping my Lupus stuff also!

Avoid stress, don’t hold your anger, and don’t think about your disease. 🙏
Lupus since '91? You're basically a pro at this point!
Loved your video. It was as realistic as it could get. I have been diagnosed with SLE and I managing and trying to reverse the condition with diet and prolonged water fasts and so far have managed to keep it at bay without any medication. I do cheat in between but then that is another way of experimenting to see which foods I react to and which I don't. So yes it all a learning curve and a journey I hope to have success with.
Love that you experiment with yourself! 💜

i have diagnosed lupus 2009 and this video make me realized that i should avoid lots of food so that my flare up will be gone. starting to breakdown lists of my food to eat and be meticulous with the ingredients. night shade veggies, and garlic were not good to me.
Sorry to hear that
Definitely anything with dairy and sugar like sodas and ice cream.
Thank you
You're welcome
Hi, thank you for sharing this, did you experience any changes with your weight since eating this way?
Hi, none from my new diet. I was already eating fairly healthy before this so the changes were not that huge even though some were harder to make than others. My weight change is more related to the steroids.
I am learning new and healthier things to manage my life with lupus. I've had a wonderful and most positive response to a healthier diet and exercise. Thank you for this information. That's ❤️🙏

Thanks for sharing!! 💜💜💜
Thank you for this video! I just found out that my 11 years old daughter has lupus , I am scared and don't know what to do,
.
Talk to your doctor and work together with them.
I might have to break down and try to pay more attention to my diet
It might not be a bad idea but you won't know until you try.
I really enjoyed this video I gave SLE and sugar is my flare and ice cream and that’s my flare up
I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Your support means a lot!
I'm was diagnosed with Lupus in 2012, and i swear this disease is a death sentence. I found myself gaving to eliminate 99 percent of the foods in my diet. Drop so my weight i looked like the walking dead!
I'm sorry to hear about your struggles with Lupus. Stay strong!
Interesting..
Very! Thank you for watching
I would like to learn more about how protein affects our kidneys. Do u have an article on this?
None I can think of off the top of my head, but there is lot of research about this you can find online. I did a lot of it so I could adjust my own diet.
Great video and very good info to follow. However, you can reverse lupus. Dr. Brooke Goldner did it 17 years ago. After reversing lupus, she had two kids.
Thanks for sharing!
Now it makes sense… I didn’t know this
Thank you for watching!

So many food triggers 😔 hardly anything left to enjoy

Would want to hear your story about Lupus, thanks
Sure thing! I made a video about my lupus story you can watch
My daughter, 36 yrs old was diagnosed SLE 4 years ago..she had lupus nephritis & lupus cerebritis & bilateral pneumonia
Sending you both love 💜
Do these dietary restrictions also apply for Sjogrens auto immune disorder? I have a positive for that l,and..one time in the 60’s, I had the butterfly rash across the nose and cheeks. My neighbor asked me what I had,,was it an allergy, because it had lasted so bright red and stayed more than a week. It didn’t behave like an allergic reaction nor itch ..if it had a fever ..I’ve forgotten,,been too long ago. But after a few days,it just .disappeared on its own. I’d never heard of Lupus nor Sjogrens back then and it didn’t bother me so didn’t go see a dr. In latter years, my sibs developed Sjogrens but didn’t tell me for a long time..until they heard me complain about some symptoms such as dry eyes,,dry mouth, etc. then they told me..they’d gone to Mayo’s and gotten the diagnosis for Sjogrens and I likely had it too. I couldn’t afford to go to Mayos.,in a different state than mine too. So it was some time when I had turned 78’s, and developed breast cancer, that I had an integrative physician. She requested a test for Sjogren’s and I got a positive from it. Now,every illness I come down with, seems to start to get better than it gets worse with other problems. I think it’s interference from the Sjogrens…or a dormant case of Lupus. Can this be..?
It's important to consult with your healthcare provider regarding dietary restrictions for Sjogrens. They can provide personalized advice based on your specific health needs. But in general, all auto-immune disorders can benefit from anti-inflammation foods.
I have been looking into a lot of things and yes, these foods are bad for us
It's great that you're doing your research on food choices!
Didn’t know that even Vitamins could cause us harm…
It depends on what the supplements do to the body
I want to try and go on a diet but I don’t know where to start
Starting with small changes like incorporating more fruits and veggies into your meals can be a significant first step! Speak with your doctor first!
People are different though, it changed from person to person
Yes, everyone is unique.
Alcat Food Sensitivity Test, will give you the diet that you can consume
Thanks for the suggestion! 💜
Trying to give up sugar and dr. pepper
@@vickie8908 That is so hard to do!
For me is always the period, when the hormons are changing, mostly I feel ok when I do have maybe more progesterone and when I am less feminine and am missing estrogene. I can not take hormonal pills, always getting yellow and have liver issues. It took me some time to understand that it is ok to just leave the body on his own with hormons. I love sun, Unfortunately too much UV is really causing joint pain. And I really love to care for all the people and animals and flowers around me. However to not sleep enough and too be overactive is causing a deep depression. Need to work on balance everyday. UV and sleep is well known, however is more of you experiencing flare ups because of hormonal changes/period?
It's important to listen to your body and find the right balance. Hormonal changes can have a big impact on our well-being.
i had garlic and it messed me up real bad like I was beaten up by the garlic real good I made a note in my phone NOT GARLIC! I wasn't really given a new diet but I've been noticing for myself what I can and not eat.
Glad you are listening to your body.
I have diagnosed with lupus at 20 in 2006.Now I have lupus nephritis and pulmonary hypertension. My one of the heart's valve is leaking in pregnancy.Question is what food to take for better heart health even i could not walk properly due to high lung's pressures.
I'm sorry to hear about your health struggles. It's important to focus on a heart-healthy diet to support your overall well-being.
Life is so difficult at the moment
Hey, tough times don't last, tough people do. You got this!
Do sjogrens and lupus had same symptoms
Sjogren's syndrome and lupus can have overlapping symptoms, but they are distinct autoimmune diseases with their own unique characteristics.
To eliminate sodium out of the diet altogether is crazy especially on a keto diet
So true, it is in everything
@@Styledunderlupus the answer to that is not to buy processed food and use sea salt or himalayas salt to cook. Salt is essential for a healthy lifestyle

I'm new to understanding Lupus. The immune system attacking the body and it's relationship to sugar consumption and inflammation is well understood since I have to avoid sugar since I'm diabetic.
Can someone comment on why fat consumption may be bad for lupus. If you consume say avocados and olive oil is that "good" for people with lupus?
It depends on the kind of fats. If it’s healthy fats like omega-3, then that’s anti-inflammatory and are actually good to eat. Omega-6 should be avoided and also monosaturated fats.
According to Dr. Brooke Goldner, avocados are okay to eat. Olive oil and added oils should be avoided. If you have to use olive oil, only use a tiny amount, like from a spray
@@a_imalik try to avoid ultra-processed oils sugars number one Corn Syrup, breakfast products in a box even Oats, added sugars etc packaged goods processed meats. even coffee, dairy, kale, and spinach is high in calcium and bad for bones garlic nightshades if you think of it like a car and you put your foot on the accelerator pedal it starts a war like your own soldiers wake up and start doing damage to our bodies like me if I sit in the lovely sunshine for an hour or more I get a trigger from the sunlight causes a flu-like flare up which lasts for ages and ages im allergic to penicillin so antibiotics do not suit me at all or prednisone takes calcium away
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It's important to gather information about how different foods can impact your health, especially when dealing with conditions like Lupus and diabetes. Avocados and olive oil are generally considered healthy fats and can be part of a balanced diet for people with Lupus.
Thanks for sharing those insights on fats and the types to watch out for!
Your detailed recommendations are appreciated! It's great to have this information to make more informed choices for my health.

some people have reported great results by going Carnivore for autoimmune diseases…
Everyone's needs a body are unique so I am not surprised
Do sjogrens syndrome symptoms closely related to lulu's?
Yes, there are some similarities between Sjogren's syndrome symptoms and Lulu's. It's always important to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
whats the difference between refined sugar and normal sugar?
Natural sugar is naturally occurring in food.Refined sugar may be from a natural source, but it has been processed so only sugar remains, like granulated sugar from sugar cane.
Does anyone know how it develops and how it begins in our body?
No one is 100% sure
I get sunburned by even staying outside for a couple of minutes, it’s scary
Aww I am sorry to hear that
Could everything be related to the food we eat though?
I am sure it plays a big role
Sorry, this is not related to the video but do you know if lupus is hereditary?
No worries. I am not sure. No one in my family has it so I suspect it's both genetics and environmental factors that go into it.
@Taiwo Omotosho Thank you for sharing!
My father had lupus. I am the only girl in the family I have it, looking back I see it was there, but broke out vry severe at age 59. I have 3daughters and 2sons daughters all3 have Auto immune disease, One passed due to blood clot through lung. I believe it's hereditory.
They say no.
Is it possible for us to live a normal life? I am tired
Hey, I hear you. It's okay to feel tired. Just take it one day at a time.
I boil a lot of Garlic and drink should I stop ✋️...first thing in the morning
Garlic is amazing for me, I chew it daily. Gives me so many much energy…
It's great that you're trying out different health remedies. Just make sure to listen to your body and consult with a healthcare professional if needed.
I am glad it does not make you feel bad.
I also find eggs make my joints flare up
It's not good to leave sodium out of the diet. Why would you say this? Sodium is required to make stomach acid. Grains should not be consumed
@Fenty Riri Rico fantastic. I had my test last week and was negative. Cut out all veg and egg whites. Eat meats apart from pork
Animal products can cause some people to flare :(
