  • Showing you the easiest way to properly bleed the coolant on your e30 BMW. Bleeding the coolant on BMWs is known to be very difficult and hard to get done right on your first try. If you follow the steps in this video you should be able to bleed it properly with ease. This method should also apply to other BMWs with only slight differences.

    The thermostat replacement and bleeding process on the 325e is pretty straightforward and easy when following this guide. Thank you!

    I just inherited an e30 project car so i appreciated your well lit, clear video. But to all viewers - unless you enjoy spilling coolant all over and making a mess, tear the thin seal Off the jug of coolant and turn the bottle sideways so the wide flat side is toward the engine, Then pour. This will allow you to get a lot closer to the overflow opening and with much less pressure so you can pour with more control. And, while just water will cool your engine if no coolant is available, you dont want to leave it for any length of time. The type of coolant (G5) has VERY specific chemistry to increasing boiling point and decrease freezing point AND PREVENT CORROSION. Your engine is an electrochemical cell with hot metal electrodes of at least four (4) different metals - those metals will decompose and migrate if you use plain water of any kind. The engine on the car i inherited is a prime example where someone left water-diluted coolant in it and huge metal deposits formed in the water pump and thermostat housing, and all cast metal parts Lost that metal and are pitted and weakened. No ones opinion or preferences override the basic chemistry of the engine. Keep up the good videos. Cheers

    Goodnight friend.
    You know the procedure for removing air from the cooling system, when the expansion tank is next to the radiator. Thank you, greetings from Chile, South America.

    Hi I was wondering were the second rubber pipe on the water coolant goes to? (On the left from front view)

    Hello dear friend. By chance you have the procedure of bleeding the cooling system, when the expansion tank is attached to the radiator. Greetings from Chile, South America.

    Have you ever opened the coolant pump and thermostat that ignored bmw coolant requirements? If you did, you would follow bmw spec coolant. My engine coolant thermostat and waterpump was almost siezed up with crystals from the green prestone coolant. Just letting you know.

    Never use anything that’s not distilled water when mixing coolant. Purified and filtered water has minerals that will lead to rust and corrosion in the system.

      Don't worry, if you don't believe in it, then you'll be fine.
      Honestly, what kind of advice is he giving in this video? Thankfully the bleed procedure seems to be pretty solid at least.

    Does this bleeding method apply to it as well?

    Do u also need to have the car turned on as you fill up with coolant? Or does the car stay off?

      leave it off as you fill! only on when youre bleeding.

    This is great but in 2 of my e30's the bleeder screw was seized and cannot be turned and probably seized because never turned in years. So I put more coolant in the reservoir and left the cap loose so air could escape out and vigorously squeezed all the coolant hoses. Then turned on car with hot air coming out and vigorously squeezed coolant hoses again. Then tightened cap. Drove both cars around and temp needle stayed in the middle. I never bled the screw nor increased the idle speed by hand. I guess the way I did it was good enough. Right?

      @@alexthedrummer42597 My bleed screw is seized too. Did this method work for you? I still have air in the system after trying this-There is warm air blowing from the heater motor inside the car but not hot air. . Any extra advice would be much appreciated.
      All hoses are hot apart from the lower radiator hose that connects to the thermostat. Doesn't feel like there is any or much liquid on the hose when I squeeze it.

      @@1devz1 it worked for me. Just keep squeezing all the hoses until they're good and stiff. Park your car on an incline going up, that helps too. Best of luck!

    Water does not work fine as a coolant.
    Coolant has corrosion inhibitors that prevent rust and corrosion.
    Your cooling system looks pretty rusty...

      Yeah I was thinking do you even need to add water I know people do this to get more out of their coolant but I would much rather spend money and fill it with coolant rather Diluting it

  • @blakesirois9832

    dont believe in using bmw coolant but uses filtered water for piece of mind....... not sure im with that... bmw recommends their coolant and have str8 tap water is fine......

    • @dclowd9901
      @dclowd9901 Před 2 lety +1

      You don't have to use their coolant, a phosphate free substitute should be fine, but for god sakes, use distilled water if you don't get a 50/50 mix jug.
      What am I saying? Nobody ever does this. I've never seen an old car that didn't have a completely rotted out cooling system.

  • @andrewg2322
    @andrewg2322 Před 2 lety

    Coolant or water makes no effective difference unless you live in a freezing climate. Water expands when it freezes and anti freeze causes freezing point depression. Use what you have but even a slight amount of concentrate will drop the freezing point enough to leave you car out in the snow.
