Here's the third update for my Warhammer Dogs of War army project series! The next unit I've added is the fantastical Birdmen of Catrazza, which are based on Leonardo Da Vinci style designs, and will be used as Empire of Men Outriders in my army! Hope you enjoy hearing about the lore behind this Warhammer Fantasy Dogs of War unit as well, I think it still fits even if The Old World takes place at a different time!
Let me know what Dogs Of War unit you're most looking forward to seeing painted! If you have any of the models I'm in the market for, please let me know!
You can check out the Dogs of War project so far here:

My basing scheme for this model is:
AK Terrain Dark Earth texture paste
Ryza Rust (dry) brush
Screaming Skull (layer) dry brush

Dogs of War was peak Warhammer for me. Every unit full of character. Each with their own lore. Still have 10 Birdmen and a bunch of Long Drong Slayer Pirates that I need to get painted. This has certainly inspired me to get painting.
That’s awesome to hear, these guys definitely deserve to be painted! Hope you get to them soon!
For the pikemen, you should paint up the front rank, with the command group for a video and just do the rest whenever.
Yes great idea.
What a great looking unit. They really 'popped' once you had the highlights on. I fancied painting up a unit of these myself and then I looked at the prices on Ebay!
Yeah…the prices these days on eBay are…oof. 😅
Glad you’re doin this army. The army has so much character. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I love it so much too!
You definitely need a name for them like Da Vinci Force 1 or something. Maybe Benjamin's Batty Kite Men? (Then get a sorcerer that uses lightning spells and call him Benjamin Franklin)
Bababahhah love it.
I would love GW to produce new Winged Lancers models for Kislev. Gorgeous horsemen based on the historical Winged Hassars of Poland-Lithuania of the 16th and 17th Centuries.
Oh that would be amazing. One day maybe.
It may be outside of any guidelines you have but I just got some winged lancers from Highlands miniatures, look at the Volhynia range. It is resin and it is 3rd party but they are fantastic minis and not too expensive too (I got 10 with command for 24quid)
@richardcowan8785 I believe the old sculpts were metal with plastic mounts, if my memory serves me correctly. As you mention, there are always some 3rd party companies that produce their own versions of these cavalry units, which provide more variety to all gamers. Thanks for sharing that.
Probably my favourite Dogs of War unit
It’s so good.
Been looking at wargames Atlantic conquistador for extra wardogs for my friend .
Oh will have a look at them!
Looking awesome, love seeing your Dogs of War progress 🙂
Thanks so much, having fun with them!
Theres a certain something about old skool minis. They just r so cool to work on, those minis look really good Andy. Orange and black scheme is a good choice.
Thanks pal.
Never managed to get this unit, so I am somewhat envious! The Black and orange really does work well on them
Glad you like the scheme. I’m loving painting it.
Great video Andy, haven’t seen these guys in years, very cool to see them getting some love. I’d certainly love to see the pike men next that unit is just awesome.
Working on getting them together very soon!
Keep it coming, my man. Great stuff!
Thanks! Will do!
Cheers Andy! For the crazy winged men algorithm!
Always appreciate it!
fun fact about hard vs softwoods. the names are generic catchalls that mean hardwood comes from deciduous trees and softwood is from evergreen trees. Which leads to weird things like Cedar being a softwood and Balsa being a hardwood, despite their relative densities and strengths. So to answer your question, no there's no real colour consistency between hardwoods and softwoods because there are thousands of different types within each category
Good to know cheers Pal.
These turned out really awesome, always did love these models, but sadly never picked any of them up back in the day. I think they'd look really slick alongside some of OPR's Vinci models too.
Will check them out, cheers man
They look good, I was hoping you'd get to these.
If you ever wish to return to the bases, then think about a bonfire as a base. Like Ezio's flight in AC2
Not a bad idea.
I think these minis would have definitely been better with custom angled flying rods. These minis need to be angled to show off their awesome undersides.
I’m only going to be seeing them from above when playing them anyway but I get what you mean!
I’m painting up command and my Leopold’s Leopard Company, but I’ve also just finished assembling and priming my 7 Birdmen (but still debating Birdmen or Galloper Guns to work on next…)
Can’t wait to see them pikemen!
Hoping to work on the pikemen soon!
Beautiful work on these. Such eye-catching models.
If you do find a little more time for these, I can't help feeling the feathers on the neck could do with a vibrant spot colour?
Oh for sure. Just need to pick a colour first.
Those Dogs of War models look great and the paint scheme you chose for them is spot on. 😁😁😁😁
Thanks pal. Appreciate it.
🎉🎉
Thanks pal.
Wish I bought more DoW when they were available, only own a unit of Leopard Company and the Albion giants. Would be surprised if we don't get at least some of them on made to order at some point.
Yeah we’ve seen some nice surprises for made to order so 🤞🤞
Always loved the look of this unit. Look fab in the orange and black. Can't wait to see the army as a whole!!
Thanks pal. I can’t wait to see it either.
Your videos are awesome. I usually watch painting guides for when I need a scheme or help with a technique.
Your videos are much more than just that, love it!
That’s so kind pal. Cheers.
I just used the same orange paints on some fire dragons. Absolutely the best choice for colors. Love these models for old world.
Ye they work so well.
Love the Birdmen! Great result, well done! They would be perfect as Outriders in the current ToW rules.
Yeah I think that would suit them best!
So you started with one of those troops I like less. Cool. Looking forward to next video now 😅
Haha only upwards from here on out
Great job! Can't wait for your first battle report with these. Glad I subscribed!
Cheers man! Can’t wait either!
Wow - these are great looking classic models - missed them first time round but would definitely buy them if re-released in plastic (perhaps re-imagined?). Must admit, I was a bit concerned with those bases at the primer stage - looked like a sizeable pile of bird sh*t!!
Hahahhahahah
👍
Cheers.
They look fantastic!
Cheers.
Do you have a video on how to rebase your models without damaging them. I got a bunch of savage orcs on 25mm bases that need to be moved up to 30mm.
Emmm I have done some rebasing videos.
Nice video mate. You are starting to win me over with the old world crap! Lol.
I will get you.
HELLO! if you dont care if the og or not i belive i can help with the collection!
I am interested. Message me on instagram if you would like.
I know that GW had a bunch of inside jokes in Rogue Trader and I get the historically based stuff like the pikemen, but what the hell were they smoking when they came up with these?
What's net, the halfling bowmen?
Much like near all of warhammer, its just an amalgam if stuff, RAF WW2 pilots + renaissance flight designs + icarus myth = weird and wacky fun
Hahhaa probably the halflings. I do love them.
How manny kidny's did you have to sell :), wat rules are you going to use, pistoliers or outriders? at 9:18 til 9:45 your focus from your camera is off. Great paintjob.
Both kidneys it’s been a rough few weeks. Not sure yet. And they’re just akward models.
haha, Dogs of War Minis are really derpy :D
Great paintjob though
Hahaha I get that. But I love them.
Contrary to any actual proper definitions and distinctions , I would say the common perceptions of hard and softwoods does mostly line up with dark and light.
Not just my weird brain then 😄
I think its terrible that you would glue wings to dogs and make them do battle, Shame on you sir, Shame. Always thought these were cool models, great video.
Hahahaha *in the arms of the angel*
A long, long time ago I bought 8-10 of those, unpainted, unbuilt and mostly intact... But I sadly have no idea where they are now... 🥲
That’s so sad to hear.
