And from the unrest of its at times frustrated community, a new challenger has finally risen - an ambitious and accomplished opponent promising change. But Riot Games isn't just interested in challenging for the crown, their sights are set on claiming it with Valorant.

If you did your research, you would notice that every month after valorant's release cs:go's player base also rose. Valorant brought a lot of people into fps games (more specifically tactical shooters). Before that, cs:go's player base was declining according to steam's charts. So yes the game was dying.

the lockdown in most european countries occurred in march to april, exactly when the player count went up? It's not only cs that saw an increase in players around this time frame. The closed beta to valorant was released in april, and csgo player count went up in march?
@@snelpanda1 ?????? Look at the steam charts. In March csgo had: 671,033.3 average players and 1,145,972 peak players. In April: 857,604.2 average players and 1,305,714. And BTW, in april was when csgo also had it's peak of players.

Here's a tip. If you started valorant after coming from cs, don't treat it like the same. Yes everybody talks about how it's a "clone" but I've seen a lot of my friends struggle with valorant because they actually think the games are more or less the same and they kept trying to play it like they would csgo.
I play csgo and it's true. I really have a hard time playing valorant. Even on csgo I rarely use throwables, and now valorant add a whole tons of abilities that made it almost impossible for me to play without getting used to it.

CSGO hit its 2nd highest concurrent player count yesterday- over 1million without a big update for almost a year. Its timeless.
And Valorant is catching up after only a few months during a pandemic where they can't host lan tourneys. Your point? They can coexist and Valve didn't give a fuck about actually fixing shit until legitimate competition showed up.

i think they will coexist although i know a lot of people who are sick of Val already and going back to CSGO. the playstyles are so different, one is more fast pace while one is a game of abilities and holding the same corner for like 5 minutes at a time.

Reached pretty decent Peak on valo too. But the game keeps disapointing, I really think some abilities are too Op and the game isn't balanced to me, plus vanguard and the community... So I recently went back to my good ol' CS playing FaceIt etc
It will When League first came onto the scene it was called a Dota clone but in time they both found there place. I think thats gonna happen just give it a few years

ive played counter strike for probably more than 20 yrs and I can say Valorant is cool and has a chance. though ive just played the game for just a week and a half now, i feel it's a worthy successor for the new generation, at least, but not necessarily a replacement for the old players. Counter-strike will always be tradition.. And I think culturally, deep down, the theme of terrorist vs counter-terrorist was very significant over the last 2 decades. But the world has changed now and terrorist attacks or the clear divide in the world back then is not as present as it was. Unity through Diversity is the driving force of today's culture and that is why valorant, with it's characters/agents representing different parts of the world, will appeal more to the new and younger generation.

I'm 34, have been playing CS since 2002 starting with 1.6 and stopped playing CS:GO in 2017 after I achieved Global Elite because of the cheating problem. It felt like I achieved my last goal in Counterstrike and that there was no more point in continuing because playing against hackers again and again is no fun and doesn't make sense.
When Valorant was announced I was pretty hyped, though and have been playing it since the beta. The fact that you forget about cheaters in this game because there barely are any is such a great feeling that I missed in many online games in the past few years.
I'm a CS veteran and I instantly switched to Valorant and never looked back. Valorant is clearly the better game for me.

Tried CSGO after seeing my friends playing. around 2017 - 2018 I think, they did warn it had a very toxic community, at least in my SEA server, and after playing a few games where I constantly get shot at out of nowhere and missing all my shots (by spraying, yes), there was this game where this player just no scope carried the team. Being the newb I was, I asked, "how do I get good at this game?" The reply was, don't play it. And I uninstalled it there and then.
Fast forward to start of 2021, another group friends had tried to invite me to play Valorant a few months back, but I had some trauma from the CSGO time and thought it would be a similar game; fast pace, confusing, and toxic community. Surprisingly, after watching some OTV and friends' clips on CZcams where they were having fun, I decided to try the game, and wow, it just sucked me in. The agents were fun to play, I only met very very few toxic people in games (most were having fun and being nice), and overall it has been a pretty good experience. I still suck at Valorant, though.

Well, being good in cs and gettin 1tap headshots feels more rewarding than valorant. I tried game myself, its good, but i was sick of it after 2 months, same as my friends and we went back to cs.
you should play some deathmatch and learn some of the basic mechanics before playing competitive to be honest. the other 4 people are playing with you for 30+ minutes and if someone hasn't even played some deathmatch or putting any effort in they get a bit irritated.
The irony in this is that I only got into CS because of Valorant

They wanted to underscore the hypothesis of their essay with a quote and didn't really give a shit if it was contextually appropriate. Probably lazyness, but it might be personal bias and willingness to decieve by means of an out of context quote from a person of authority on the subject (Shroud being a famous former CS pro).
I'm guessing they had to fill their upload schedule and just shat out this video quick and dirty. But it wouldn't surprise me if the people who really care about the superficial douchiness of Faze Banks, CoD Optic Gaming and Nadeshot's 100 Thieves also prefer the more marketable Valorant over CS:GO. I started playing valorant on the beta, and its this game that motivated me to try csgo. So valorant is taking old players away from cs, but also bringing young new players to the genre, and opening them to the possibility of trying cs

I play a lot of league so I decided to try valorant and I love the genre now! I used to think all shooters were cod clones and not for me. I would've never tried tactical shooters if it wasn't for valorant.

I would be more surprised if CS ever died than if it didn't. I also think CS is the best shooter from a eSport pov for 4 main reasons;
1. the objective of the game is easy to understand (even for first time viewers)
2. the amount of realism is at a sweetspot where it's obviously not a simulator but not mostly fictional either
3. it's proune to producing interesting moments, especially at the highest level
4. the culture/history it already has
Yeah I actually don't really play CSGO, like I played one or three matches after watching a major with my cousin and I didn't like it, I play other shooters, but CSGO is just fun to watch. It was super easy to understand that first time I watched it and I'll still put on live streams of competitive matches if I'm folding laundry or doing the dishes.

I hate how everyone saying hype went down, the reason that valorant had so much viewers was due to inflation many people were putting 3-5 different accounts on a stream just to get a key. In terms of playership no one knows I'd it really is dying since there's no concrete way of checking. People love to assume things to favour their arguements and I find that so stupid. People saying that csgo also gets more viewership then valorant are ignorant to the fact that valorant has nowhere near the same amount of tournaments as csgo not to mention csgo has already built a franchise in its 15 years while valorant has yet to even have a LAN. Give it time before everyone jumps ship you can play csgo or valorant but don't be an ass about it cause in the end of the day freedom of speech is good but no one wants to hear a biased answer.

It is hard to balance so many things in Valorant but this unbalance is what keeps the game changing with something new and fresh throughout its lifetime.
Riot specializes there since they've dealt with league for awhile. Can't wait to see their fighting game come out!
Valorant is better than ever right now. Kudos to Riot devs who are providing rigorous updates. Meanwhile CS:GO monetised the game again in the name of stopping cheating. And cheating is rampant as always

Valve is legally not able to improve their Anti-Cheat due to their policies on privacy. Which is why they made vacnet which only works after someone has cheated because they can not make their anti-cheat intrusive enough like Vanguard. So if you don’t want to play vs cheaters you gotta play faceit.

@@smith8863 IMO Csgo isn’t ever going to fully die. Not a single game comes close to the skin economy of cs. The gameplay can get dry but, the thrill of collecting skins never gets old.

Valorant is just too unoriginal the gunplay is just way too similar. There’s ways to make a tactical shooter without being a clone. Look at Rainbow 6, very original yet still is a very good tactical shooter.

@@Will12000 Their similarity is what drives the competition. Example, rainbow six siege is original but it doesn't pose a threat to csgo since they are fundementaly different. But players can easily compare Valorant and csgo so they have an easier time choosing which for them is better or more fun.

i mean, i find Valorant and CS:GO pretty different games, even though they have the same mechanics and weapons, CSGO is a way more strategy based game while Valorant is a way more team based game because in csgo you can clutch a 1v5 if you are good enough but in valorant if you play a more support character you don't have many chances of clutching a 1v5

The thing about CSGO is that despite it being a really hard shooter to play, it's incredibly easy to watch and understand. Part of that is because of the Source Engine being amazing for spectating, but another part is just the simplicity of the game's structure. Valorant being a hero shooter loses that, because you have to keep track of individual abilities.
Agree 100%. CSGO has simplicity. Easy to pick up, but the learning curve is crazy. Valorants heros have abilities which I feel can be unbalanced and very forgiving to people with less mechanical skill. It's almost like a crutch. In CSGO everyone is on the same playing field and skill is highly rewarded

@@SnugglesPrime Yeah, I was gonna make that point. Viewing experience is in favour of CS for sure, but if Valorant strike luck with the perfect place/time like League did, I don't see it being such a big hurdle for them to overcome.
I still think CS will remain the bigger esport, at least for the forseable future, even though I think Valorant will inevitably have a bigger casual playerbase. It's ties to Tencent makes it easier to reach an audience that CS always failed to. I've centainly see some of my friends who played cs casually switch over to valorant and never touch the game again.

If you did your research, you would notice that every month after valorant's release cs:go's player base also rose. Valorant brought a lot of people into fps games (more specifically tactical shooters). Before that, cs:go's player base was declining according to steam's charts. So yes the game was dying.

The CS series as a while only exists because of its hardcore player base. The game was essential created by the players (origins as a gmod) and is kept alive by players (it sometimes feels like valve would rather it died). CS is the peak of Competitve FPS because it has had 2 decades to improve and be refined. You can’t just recreate that in the way riot are trying to.

Clip It! What he’s referring to is not necessarily the game itself. Of course you can copy the game and the gameplay, but you can’t replicate the community and everything surrounding it. The emotions and the feelings a game gives you are not something that you can just force. CS has history that Valorant does not. Many people grew up playing CS and still play it today and there’s something to be said for that. You can’t replicate somebody’s childhood or their experiences laughing with their friends or having a good time together.
